This week is pretty special. I finally finish the CHRISTMAS project that I received from Florifant! She emailed me back in December asking if I could do this model for a friend who had just started an army, her friend has yet to paint anything so having a painted mini might inspire her to jump in with both feet. Being that it was Christmas I decided to give back to the community that has given me so much and go ahead and paint this up and send it on its way for free. I plan on doing this every Christmas, so if you have something that you would like painted for the holidays please feel free to contact me! I know the holidays are a long way off now, but I will make sure to announce this again when the time comes! Thank you Florifant for allowing me to paint this model, I hope you and your friend have an awesome time getting into the hobby together.

Donating Minis:
If you would like to donate a mini to be rescued on the channel then please send me an email with the type of mini, pictures if you can, and a little bit about the history of the mini! Donations have become a big part of the channel and I want to do as much as I can to share the story and history along with painting your mini! I do ask that the minis be at least partially painted, something you may have gotten on ebay, or just something that you started and never finished, that way it fits the criteria of a "rescue." I appreciate each and every person who has donated to the cause, you have all helped make this channel better for me and for everyone watching, so thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Commissions:
CURRENTLY ACCEPTING
Commissions are a big part of what keeps this channel going, I try and charge a fair amount, and in most cases, make a video to go along with the job. Not in all cases, but many. The type of commissions I am interested in are of a "rescue" nature. So something that you have had laying around, or something that you started, or someone started and didn't finish. If you want something new then I am still interested but please understand that if it doesn't fit within the theme of the channel then it probably won't get featured in a video.
I do commissions for $15/hour plus shipping and supplies. I will also give you a free estimate that I will honor for 6 months from the date on the estimate. Thank you all again for your submissions, and helping keep the lights on here at EMR!

Well we just realized that the gift we received from our friend some time ago, was actually one of the mangler squigs. Amazing job, especially seing it up close and in real life. She mentioned she got them comissioned, but I didnt realize from who, till I had a close look at the base :D The colour transitions then made the lightbulb go off in my head Thank you so much for your awesome work

What an incredible dreamteam! Great transitions on the skin. Love those shots with all 3 mangler teams. Also, I didn't realize Golden acrylics names their paints after actual pigments... this interests me... :-)

Thanks man! Squigs are always fun :) The Golden paints are very interesting to use as well, almost like inks, but they still function like acrylic paint using a brush. I’m sure it would make for an interesting chemical analysis and comparison to some of the products you are currently using ;)

Just out of curiosity, where are you buying the Golden brand paints? Having read articles in model builders magazines, like Modeler's Resource and Amazing Figure Modeler, I had heard of Golden. But I don't think I've ever seen them for sale in Hobby, craft, or art supply shops locally.

The Golden Acrylics suitable for airbrushing are called High Flow Acrylics. In the US I've only ever found them at Jo-Ann's Craft stores and occasionally at Michael's. You can easily find them on Amazon... But I like shopping with coupons. They are artist grade acrylic paints though, meaning the exact pigment used and transparency level is right on the bottle. There is no need to guess what's inside.

Ok, that makes sense. The closest Micheals to me is about an hour away and I don't get there much. We have Joann fabrics. But I forget that they carry more than fabric. When I was younger they were mostly just fabric and sewing notions in the 80's.

Looks cool, as always. A couple notes to add. There are gloss version of Nuln Oil, Agrax Earthshade and Reikland Flesh, which might or might not negate the need to reapply metallic paint after the wash. I generally don't find the extra layer of metallic is necessary after the gloss washes. And while it didn't come up in this video, we've talked about the lack of a good range of colours in the Vallejo Metal Colour line, and I've been experimenting a bit. Copper + Dark Aluminum yields a copper that I like, but adding any of the white metals to copper seems to work pretty well depending on the brightness of the copper you want. Copper + Sepia ink gives a pretty good bronze. Just thought I'd share :)

Nice one dude! I used to paint miniatures when I was in my teens and recently decided to get back into it (I'm 47 now). I've been watching your videos for a few months now and have found inspiration and confidence to try new techniques; the airbrush was something I found particularly daunting at first, but as you've shown, it can be used for more than just base coating! All the best moving forward.

Great job, Casey. I am also glad to see you using Golden's paints in this video, because it opens that up to those in the hobby who wouldn't otherwise know about them. I've practically fallen in love with Golden paints, after having used them and seen how awesome they are. Their heavy body paints will get you tons of mileage, as well, btw. Just reduce them as necessary, and you can easily turn an 8oz tube into a quart or so of "hobby paint". They're also perfect for glazes, washes and filters, because of how well they reduce, and how far you can stretch them before it breaks.

Here's a suggestion for your showcases at the end of a video for figurines that end up in your armies; It would be awesome if you made a small diorama that not only shows the new piece but also it's place in your army. Besides that, that commission was an awesome paint job!

My personal miniature rescue project. I had about 300+ Imperial Guard and Steel legion in a tote when the basement flooded. Little did I know the tote was not watertight. I found out a couple months later when I moved the tote thinking it was fine so they had been in water a long time. All of them were painted and based. It's going to take a lot of time to redo them in quasi German Bundeswehr flecktarn camo. I'm just hoping the CA glue holds during the stripping since the plastic figs had Pig Iron gas mask head swaps.
@eBayMiniatureRescues
@eBayMiniatureRescues 4 жыл бұрын
Man that’s a huge bummer! In my experience CA glue mostly holds up to stripping about 75% of the time. There’s some brand out there that always seems to come loose when I strip models, but things like Krazy glue seem to hold up alright. Good luck with the restoration man, I’m sure it will still be fun, even though it sounds like a good amount of work!

But, Uncle Adam over on Tabletop Minions did a really good livestream from the convention floor, he showed the a lot of the vendors and tournament rooms, and talked about the weekend. It’s worth a watch if you want to see everything :) I’ll probably do something at Adeptacon, which is in a couple of months.

for a little perspective, most night goblins use black cloaks with red or yellow detailing. yellow seems to work quite well, though it's not too lore friendly. (could be an abherrant night gobbo clan)

@@eBayMiniatureRescues that I can understand. Lol... I used to use brighter colours on normal gobbos, earthy tones (and bright feathers) on forest gobbos and black on night gobbos... Skin tones would highlight with yellow on normal and forest gobbos, and white with night gobbos (lack of sun, lol)

Great video as always! I notice that you never really dry brush any of your models. Is that because you have found other techniques that give you a better result, or do you find dry brushing just is not your thing? More curios than anything else.
@eBayMiniatureRescues
@eBayMiniatureRescues 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks :) I’ve wondered that myself, I like drybrushing, I think it can look amazing, but I never get around to doing it too much, I’m not sure why, maybe it’s a fear of messing up a nice looking airbrush work up, I probably need to just practice more lol. Next week in fact, there is a heavy emphasis on it, weird coincidence :)

Why did you decide to not pain the tongue? Also after using the shade in the skin how do you highlight it back up a bit?
@eBayMiniatureRescues
@eBayMiniatureRescues 4 жыл бұрын
The tongues are all a little different, I liked the way a couple of them looked with more of the skin tone, one has a flesh colored one. With a light wash of that purple most everything looks pretty good, although if you want to push it a little farther then a drybrush of a light skin tone will bring everything out nicely.

Haven't been following your channel all that long so sorry if you've answered this before, but which type of Milliput do you use? I've recently had to fill some gaps in a model and ended up using many layers of white glue... which works, but takes a long time because it shrinks so much as it dries. I checked the place I usually get hobby stuff and they have 5 different types of Milliput, but that's a fair number to try just to see what they're like.
@eBayMiniatureRescues
@eBayMiniatureRescues 4 жыл бұрын
I don’t think anyone’s asked me that before. I’m using Standard yellow/grey. This is the kind most people use for hobbying, or at least that I’ve seen. It doesn’t shrink and it dries in a few hours. I didn’t realize they made different versions....I may have to go shopping lol. My only complaint with the stuff is that, while amazing for filling gaps, it’s hard to sculpt into anything, so I go with greenstuff for that, but maybe that’s because I’m using the standard stuff and it’s softer and made for filling holes. Interesting 🤔
@Maeyanie
@Maeyanie 4 жыл бұрын
@@eBayMiniatureRescues Thanks for the answer. :) My local place's website lists "Fine Black," "Silver Grey," "Yellow Grey," "Superfine White," and "Terracotta." I'm guessing the Silver Grey and Terracotta are just different colours of the standard yellow/grey you're using, but I might try Fine or Superfine at some point to see how it compares too.
@eBayMiniatureRescues
@eBayMiniatureRescues 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the list! Because of what the stuff is used for it’s probably safe to assume that the other colors are the same (besides the fine and super fine) and probably made for fixing things like actual terra-cotta pots! I’ll see if my local shop has some of the other stuff to try out :)

I’ve done a little bit of brushing with it. It’s tough to work with because it’s sooo thin, but it works well for glazing and tinting things, so it’s worth having around! In a couple of weeks I’m doing a video where I use some golden paint with a brush to do some fun stuff :)
