This is the last episode of the Kubota G4200 Restoration series. This video has a very brief highlight of everything I did throughout the series. There is a complete playlist of over 30 related videos for this project titled "Kubota G4200"
From the time the tractor's water pump went out (which kicked off the restoration) to completion of the restoration was about 2.5 years.
All parts were bought online from Messick's equipment ‪@MessicksEquip‬ . Not sponsored (I didn't get anything free/discounted) it's just that they have a great website with factory parts manuals online (this was a lifesaver when figuring out how stuff went together) and helpful people at the parts counter when you call (saved me from ordering the wrong part). Very cool somebody still has parts for a 40yr old garden tractor!

Not sure if you saw the first video but it actually started off just trying to replace the water pump then it snowballed into the two year journey!

@@BubbasWorkshop Funny how that happens. I've got plenty of "snowball" projects myself. Looking forward to more videos from you!

Amazing job! I just got a g4200 HST from my neighbor for $200. ALL the electrical needs repair. I was able to give the fuel pump power and flow the plugs to get it running. I’m having a hard time thinking through the electrical, I need to study the diagrams and wrap my head around it.

Awesome! I wish mine was an HST if it was I'd fab or retrofit a deck for it.

Great rebuild! I have a G4200HST sitting in my project shed ready for the day I can find the motivation to pull it out and begin my own rebuild series. Hope to see the rebuild of the deck soon. Mine is missing covers and locked up! Keep up the good work!

Real awesome build!! Could you do a video or something about the wiring where the battery is mine is all messed up and I need a reference. Thank you
@BubbasWorkshop
@BubbasWorkshop 8 ай бұрын
There really isn't a way to film anything in there but I think if you look on messicks.com website you can find the wiring diagram buried in the parts catalogue.

Not 100% but it looks like you have the correct seat cover you just have it upside down. Place the seat part as the back. Then buy the two large rivets for the center and install the rivets it will pull it tight and fit properly. Nice job. On the machine i restored a g5200.

I went and checked and it's too long both ways...mine has some type of "shorty" low back seat. I looked through parts catalogues and it shows two seats but the same part# for the seat covers.

Nice work. I was just given an old G4200. I put a new battery in it and when I turn the key, I can hear the ticking and get a red light. It won’t turn over though. Did you have that problem? I wonder if there is a safety switch under the seat.
@BubbasWorkshop
@BubbasWorkshop Жыл бұрын
There is a safety switch on the PTO lever and there is one on the clutch pedal (if it's a manual transmission) or the Hydro pedal (if it's hydrostatic).

Looks awesome. I got the same lawn tractor but my brake pedal is stuck in the up position. Any suggestions to get the brake working I would appreciate it
@BubbasWorkshop
@BubbasWorkshop Жыл бұрын
The brake release is spring loaded (push the break in and it releases) but if the spring is broken push the break in and then push the "knob" you use to lock it into place. That knob (it's really just a wire handle) is supposed to retract on it's own but you can push it in.

Sorry I thought your parking brake was stuck. If the brake pedal is stuck it's probably rusted somewhere...you can look through the videos where the body is off and see how it works. I'd pull the body off and then just start working on the different pivot points.

Hey man I can't get the pedal on.the right side of the mower off any tips.?
@BubbasWorkshop
@BubbasWorkshop Жыл бұрын
If it's rusted I used heat. One of the videos in the teardown process I had to get pretty violent to get something off (either the deck raise lever or something in that area). If you haven't taken the body off I'd do that first as it really isn't that much work and it lets you really see what's going on.

How many quartz of oil does the engine use and the trans, thanks
@BubbasWorkshop
@BubbasWorkshop Жыл бұрын
I don't remember exactly but I think the engine is about 2.5 quarts and the trans was about 3 or 4.

How well does it mow??
@BubbasWorkshop
@BubbasWorkshop 11 ай бұрын
It doesn't lol...the deck is trashed so right now I just use it as a mule to pull trailers around. It's basically semi-retired. I may fix the deck one day but that would be for the fun of doing it because mowing with this tractor would be a pain because even in 3rd gear it is still SLOW and would take forever to mow.

So how much do you think it cost you in parts and paint to get it to where you have it now?
@BubbasWorkshop
@BubbasWorkshop 8 ай бұрын
I have about $650 receipts from Kubota so probably about $800 (I bought tires and the primer/fiberglass stuff in addition to parts from Kubota).

@BubbasWorkshop well done. It looks nice. There's one for sale not far and I am wondering if it's worth buying to mow the lawn and pull things around the farm. Our yard is hilly and bumpy, so we wouldn't be going fast anyway.

What a beautiful tractor and restoration, but what is it really good for. Watercooled diesel lawnmower, (complication and expensive)too small for any real work. Not very practical IMHO, nice job ,though🤔
@BubbasWorkshop
@BubbasWorkshop 2 ай бұрын
I actually use it quite often because it is small and powerful...I just used it this weekend hauling dirt (it will pull a full size trailer..not very fast but it just chugs along). If it was a hydro it would be a great mower but being a gear drive it kinda sucks for me because I have a lot of trees/etc... (so I do a bunch of forward/back).
