Our body is made up of water and if we do not drink the correct amount we can have the typical symptoms of dehydration such as headache, dizziness, irritability, low blood pressure, difficult control of sugar, bad breath and dry skin among others.
Not all bodies are the same, so knowing the signs that your body lacks water is very important:
The color of urine, normally citrine, can indicate the state of hydration. If we do not have enough water, the urine can be dark in color since the kidney must work harder to eliminate toxins. While if we are very hydrated, the urine ends up being very light in color, even transparent.
Thirst is another symptom, but older adults are not necessarily thirsty because our brains and cells age.
The turgor of the skin and the humidity of the mucous membranes indicate the state of hydration.
The best way to drink water is filtered drinking water. We know that drinking coffee, tea or mate can hydrate us but it also has a mild diuretic effect. Regarding fruit juices, they can contain large amounts of sugar, and alcoholic beverages have a diuretic effect as well.
Drinking water on an empty stomach is a good practice because it allows us to start the morning better, more awake and counteract dehydration at night.
