Kane Kosugi has an amazing career. He's been in 80s ninja movies with his old man, to being in Super Sentai, Ultraman and more recently Kamen Rider. An underrated B-movie and tokusatsu legend.

Plot twist the surviving baby from the slaughter in the beginning would later be found by a clan of ninjas. They would call the child Haru. He would follow in his father Chos footstep and be a ninja himself.

When Snob said that it was filmed in Salt Lake I at first thought, "but I don't recognize these places..." but then in the final fight you can see the Block U on the mountain behind them. Besides clearly being the SLC skyline. I'm thinking that oriental garden at the beginning might have been out at Red Butte Gardens. I'm not certain exactly which building they're fighting on at the end. The main question is why the Utah Film Commission doesn't ever mention that this was filmed here, but they're all about Carnival of Souls.

Indeed, one *does* have to marvel at the "masters of invisibility" wearing black w/red outfits in the middle of the day, blending ever so seamlessly into the green foliage, white buildings, or anything just *screamingly* opposite to black w/red highlights...

My favorite ninja flick! I'm so happy to see the Snob cover it finally! (I've seen the Pierre Kirby week and Enter the NInja episodes dozens of times at this point.) Please consider doing more Sam Firstenberg films, there's the awesome Avenging Force - which he's said is his best - or his lesser known later (but still loads of fun) stuff like American Samurai.

Sho Kosugi’s sons Kane and Shane went on to make several appearances on a Japanese TV show called Sasuke, which features 100 competitors trying to complete a four stage obstacle course. They enjoyed a lot of success in the early years of the show, with Kane even reaching the final stage once. Years later, partly due to their success and that of others, the show’s popularity became such that spin-offs began popping up all over the globe, including right here in the US. You might know it as “American Ninja Warrior”. This show in turn became popular enough that “ninja” actually has become a sport for a lot of people. So in a way, the Kosugi’s played a role in creating both the first and second Ninja booms in America.

One thing i find hilarious about this film is the self awareness of it. Like in the 1980s it was just a normal thing form roaming bands of ninjas to go around killing peoples families. Theres a part in the film where the chief of police is like "you mean to tell me theres ninjas running around this day and age"? and Sho gives a sly look at the camera

Kane Kosugi also starred in the 18th Super Sentai Series titled _Ninja Sentai Kakuranger_ (February 18, 1994 - February 24, 1995) as Jiraiya/Ninja Black who made his first full debut in the 3rd episode of Kakuranger subtitled *American Ninja* and just like Kane in real life, his character of Jiraiya is also from Los Angeles when he first made his debut he would talk in English to his other teammates. They would respond to him in Japanese by telling him to speak in Japanese. His ninja animal in the show was a frog, in _Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers_ his counterparts were Adam Park/Mighty Morphin' Black Ranger played by Johnny Yong Bosch, and Corcus/Black Alien Ranger played by Alan Palmer who also portrayed Pharis on _Xena: Warrior Princess_

It would have been easy to have said that Cho was the brother of Hasagawa from the first movie. It could have added to the tragedy as well. Your brother died chasing a false notion of warrior honor and the rest of the family got killed because he wasn't there to protect them.
