Daenerys is more like Thorin Oakenshield from the Hobbit: -Both are rulers that were exiled from their lands by an usurper (Robert and Smaug). -Both are kind-hearted leaders that gained the trust of their people. -They are obsessed with regaining their thrones. -They became mad because the madness is in their genes. The main difference is that Thorin's corruption made sense, while Dany's was badly executed in like 2 episodes. Seriously, I hate what they did to my girl.

Whatttt? There is so many things different between Dany and Griffith it's not even funny. Given one of them had not been endlessly torture for a year. Along with the whole you can use these bodies and build a bridge to the castle or become one of them yourself. Heck Griffith choice, fetch alot of net positives for himself. Power unlimited power. Joking aside, he did get a brand new body and could walk, speak to others easily again and so much more. While Dany, her just going around and burning people after they surrender, offers her no net gain what so ever. All she did was put the people and other close servants against her. That and all the reasons which could be given for her source of madness, death of a friend, lost of a dragon. Has nothing to do with the common innocent people. Heck if she did go mad, you think she would want to go after the person who is the source of this. Given not only does your foe not care about this city or it's people but it's a homeland to you, it's like going back home. Where is the logic in this? Burning down the keep would of limited the damage and had gotten any sort of revenge she might of wanted. Griffith you can see why he would turn, there many benefits for him doing so. While Dany there is none. Heck Anakin was made the promise to save his wife from death. There were promises made to Griffith and Anakin for their turn, that would lead to some sort of benefit.

@@thehavoccompany-a3 Plus, when you think about it, the scene of Mace Windu getting killed is the same as the Emperor blasting Luke : in both cases, Anakin had to make a choice, and he did both because of love. He killed Windu to protect Padme (the whole secret to keep her alive), and he killed the Emperor to save his son, one of the last thing that remains of his love. So yeah, not only does it makes sense, but it also shows the development down the line, the redemption for this one last mistake. Maybe the actor wasn't great, maybe Georges Lucas had problems with dialogue (I had the vf, so it's less of an issue), but the character is here. Anakin is here all along (Phantom Menace was maybe a little miss on his character appreciation). The reasons we gave to Dany's madness can also be given to Arya, Jon, any other characters to a certain degree. But Anakin is the only one in universe that went through this.

Cheap excuses, but yeah, you have a point. I think the analogy is how both character are really badly written and acted. Books and show, Daenerys is a shitty protagonist. Her dragons does everything for her, they are gimmicks. Remove these gimmicks from her, the character disappears like dust. Other characters like Jon and Cersei for example, if you remove green fire you don't erase Cersei, same for Jon and his wolf... But Daenerys and her dragons? It's ridiculous. So, I believe this character deserves some trashing, finally, I've never understood why people liked her so much. Anakin and Daenarys have NOTHING IN common. 1. None of that is the same.

Anakins turn didnt seem that abrupt to me. There was plenty of forshadowing before his fall prior to the incident with Mace Windu. When Anakin attacked Mace Windu and contributed to his death, he was still conflicted and remorseful, but did not emrace the darkside yet. His motivation was saving Padme. The reason the emperor had him attack the jedi temple was to help Anakin overcome the remnants of his humanity and the inner conflict of right and wrong. When Anakin killed the younglings at the jedi temple for all we know he didnt really want to do it and may have even tried to talk himself out of it, but his desire to save Padme was too high to overcome the burdens of morality. As he slaughtered the younglings one by one the burdens of morality and his inner conflict faded as he was forced to cope with his choices by justifying them to himself and as a result of his actions he began to fully embrace the darkside and being Darth Vader. When we see Anakin on Mustafar, we can hear him justifying his actions to Obi-Wan and himself.

Is Daenerys like Anakin in terms of character arc? Nope. She got Jake Skywalker'd. It was really out of nowhere. Anakin was showing signs in Ep2. Also, Daenerys is a leader a Queen. Her actions that were questionable can be pointed towards the fact she was acting like a queen. Her turn to burn women and children is totally left field. Anakin was never in a position in the films to be a leader. Anakin is always seen as a servant. Even a puppet. The Jedi and the Sith wanted a piece of him.

@John Galt Theres a difference between saying things and doing things. And with no word did she say things like " i cant wait to kill all the innocent people". She wanted the Throne, she had the Throne, she won, the Lannisters gave up. The only thing she had to do was to kill Cercei. There is no logical reason for her to kill all the innocent People. Have you even seen the show? Daenerys always showed us how she cares about the innocent People, Woman or Kids. She never was this heartless killing machine without emotions like her father. In Season 1-6 she always was in Character, but then Season 7-8 came and destroyed it. Especially Season 8. The Writing is just horrible. The fact that so many People are angry about the writing shows us that there is something wrong.

I will agree that the Daenerys turn to mad queen was really abrupt and had no coherent catalyst. But she was no sane nor saint. She was a megalomaniac with a tendency to cruelty. You can say all you want that she burnt her enemies and she was a acting like a queen, but she did it with joy (the masters crucifixion for example). For comparison purposes we have on the other hand Tywin, he was as cruel as Daenerys could be, but he didn't do it gladly or with a self induced destiny, he did it because it was needed for his goals.

When did she ever burn random innocent "brown men"? Unless you believe killing slavers who crucified children is the same as killing innocent women and children? Seems a bit contradictory to defend slave masters while at the same time making your argument revolve around race. Also, you're very selective about which statements you choose to believe. Have you forgotten all the times she said she didn't want to kill innocent people and be "queen of the ashes"? How about when she got the Unsullied army and told them "kill the masters, kill the soldiers but harm no child"? Fuckin hell...

The most annoying thing is that Dany didnt even have to turn crazy to burn Kings Landing. It could have been a moral dilemma, like when Stannis had to burn Shireen. Here's an example that first comes to mind - Dany has lost a majority of her forces due to the white walker attack on Winterfell, and the Northmen (or whats left of them) are not willing to comply with Danys plan to burn KL. With not enough men to secure KL once she takes over, and word of Lannister soldiers planning attacks to take out the rest of her army, she has no choice but to burn the entire city to take out the majority of Lannister forces. Again though, you can't trust D+D with strategic battle plans, which is ironic considering its the final battle in a show centred around war.

While not shown in the movies, let's not forget that Anakin's slow descent to the dark side started BEFORe the Clone Wars and ended AFTER a bloody conflict that killed countless friends and allies of his and put him in a ton of situations where the Jedi Code failed him. I know, I know, it's EU stuff, but even Episode 3 clearly puts the point across that the war changed him, a lot. Anakin's fall was done well. not the best way it could have, but it was done well and it was very thematically in-line with how the dark side has been portrayed in Star Wars anyway. Daenerys on the other hand went from kind of ruthless to her enemeis at times to "instantly batshit insane, I'm going to burn everyone!". The textbook definition of going from 0 to 100 in an instant.

prequels have such huge scope of universe and no other franchise came close. Actions taken on Coruscant were felt across galaxy and Anakin journey into darkness step by step was awesome He was kid who looked on Jedi as heroes, wanted to become jedi to save him mother and others from slavery. after time he becomed arrogant because he was better than other students, tortured by dreams about his mother, want to see what is happening with her and Obi Wan tell him dreams pass in times, When he got his first assignment still is tortured by dreams but he put duty first until he cant take anymore and went to see what is wrong with his mother, try to save her, she died and he killed her captors, swear that he won't fail again on grave of his mother, arrogant again and was fried by lighting and lost an arm from duel with Dooku, prideful my power are doubled since we met, use anger and kill Dooku, still save Obi wan, he learn that will become father which is problem for Jedi, tortured by dreams of his wife death, ask jedi about visions and they tell him to be happy that others die miss them do not mourn them do not. Palpatine masterfully control Anakin and make that Jedi humiliate him by not giving him rank of master, Anakin and Jedi council are moving far from each other. Jedi Council ask that he spy Palpatine before they even knew he was Sith which make Jedi bad and power hungry that want to control and are no different then Siths. Palpatine reveal himself to Anakin and promise him that he can help him save his wife Padme. Anakin in shock that his fatherfigure is sith went to seek Jedi but realize that they are no different and when came into Palpatine office, Windu wants to kill Palpatine and only Anakin say that's not Jedi way and Windu answer same as palpatine did after Dooku died which confirmed for Anakin that Jedi are no different from Siths so he cut windu hand and Palpatine fried windu. After being part of killing leaading member of jedi council, life he knew was over and only side he have is with Palpatine. To become more powerful to learn dark side to use it like Plageous, he must do dark deeds so he Purged Jedi from temple. After that he went to destroy separatists and he brought peace to the galaxy. After that he had time to reflect on his actions but he has gone too far and choice he made is permanent. Padme hears what happened and want check for herself so she went on mustafar and Obi Wan secretly boarded and after Anakin saw her, she wanted to leave but he wanted to stay because they don't have to run anymore and he still didn't learn what he need to save her, After that Obi Wan appear, he thought that Padme brought Obi Wan to kill him so he force choke her feeling betrayed and only because of arrogance he lost against Obi Wan. I think that was awesome and unique story of fall of Anakn Skywalker. And that was majority of ep2 and 3 movies because TPM was mostly Qui Gon and Obi Wan movie so which trilogy have superior story?

I always interpreted the destroyed throne room with snow falling on the iron throne as symmetry. She was going to have her world of entitlement destroyed because Jon Snow (Aegon Targaryen) was going to land on the iron throne (snow falling on throne) meaning her claim to the iron throne will be destroyed as she is not the rightful heir.

So far, up to 'A Dance With Dragons,' Daenerys in the books has even less reason to go "Mad Queen." Yes, she can be more ruthless than her TV counterpart at times, but on the other hand she is also significantly more compassionate and remorseful in the books. Unlike her show version, she also goes several lengths to differentiate herself from the Masters, refusing to take advantage of certain luxuries - she doesn't dress like a noble, but rather a commoner; she doesn't sit on a throne during court, but rather a simple bench; when the Pale Mare (a highly contagious and lethal disease) struck Slaver's Bay, she chose against the advice of her council to help the refugees sitting outside Meereen's walls as best she could even if it meant risking direct exposure to the disease. And because we do see her POV in her mind in the books, you see how much she genuinely cares about the common people and their plight in the world. She tries relating and associating with them because she understands their struggle, having experienced the same things as they when she was a homeless child on the run from assassins with Viserys. When it comes to her ruthlessness in the books, people tend to completely forget that almost *_all_* of the main characters in the books are considerably more ruthless. Jon Snow, the character everyone seems to think is a perfect angel, is like a completely different person as Lord Commander compared to the show version. Unlike in the show where D&D just made him Ned Stark 2.0, Jon in the books is a strategic thinker who is much more cold, calculating, and politically savvy while also suffering from the same juvenile arrogance and temper Daenerys suffers from (they are both just 16 in ADWD - equivalent to Season 5 in the show). Jon Snow has done some very questionable things in the books just like Daenerys, and he isn't afraid of lying and being dishonorable if its for "the greater good." He also isn't shy of power and being in command like he is in the show - it's even hinted and implied that he's always had a hidden desire to rule in one form or another, having fantasized about being Aegon the Conqueror as a child.

I do agree that Anakin's turn is better written than Dany's, but at the same time, even Anakin's turn was half-baked and he flips a bit too fast without seeing his inner conflict. I see the motivation threads George's was pulling, but they where not strong enough to pull all the way though. Dany's development is almost non-existent with a few breadcrumbs at most for us to pick up. So Anakins turn gets like a 5/10 and Dany's turn get like 2/10 from me. I would say there is two main ways to improve Anakin's turn. 1. Make it longer, expanding the whole movie from the point he kills Count Dooku, with him doing more questionable acts during the war, killing more innocent characters for the war effort etc. Maybe get into a serious disagreement with obi-wan about something that ends in almost fighting with lightsabers (maybe a force push is thrown or something) and even get expelled by the jedi order having to turn in his lightsaber. Then we have Palpatine comes in and "save the day". 2. If you want to have a more condense point where he goes from working for the good and switching for the evil side in what seems a single scene, extend that particular scene. Make him vocalize his regrets and have Palpatine talk to him and telling him there is only one way now, he has to join him, the jedi will never forgive him etc. Show that Anakin doesn't want to join, but see no other way and Palpatine showing his dark persuasion shine. Basically making a scene out of his now completely inner struggle that George was talking about in the documentary. Would also have liked seeing him cry or tears streaming while he kills the younglings, to show us he has a long way to go still before being Darth Vader. That would increase the rating of the movie, so I understand why they wouldn't show that. TL:DR: Extend the scene after killing Mace Windu or make longer turn changing the structure of the movie to make his turn better. As we have a split community on this issue, means that Anakin's turn was not clear enough. Dan'ys "arc" sucks in comparison.

@Tong Sandoval The clone wars really expands on his transition, but when I watched it and then watch episode 3 again, it felt slightly like a different character in the way he talks and acts. Heck, wasn't Anakin picking fights with Greedo in EPI? At most, we see Ani come into the world a happy young kid, then Qui Gon died. Step 1. Kenobi proves to be a less than stellar leader and father figure, and Anakin scorns his advice and goes off killing people for revenge when they torture and kill his mom. Step 2. The Chancellor acts like a father figure for Anakin, giving him favors while the Jedi shat on him, and the Chancellor is open and truthful with Anakin, despite the Council lying to his face and forcing him to do dishonorable things. And when push came to shove, a high-ranking member of the Jedi Council acted like a Sith and tried to kill a defenseless prisoner even though Anakin practically handed Palpie over to them to be tried and imprisoned. That then showed that the Jedi were full of shit, that they couldn't even live up to their own standards, and that their resentment of Anakin was petty and vindictive. Step 3. Also, unlike Dany's fall, Anakin had a shoulder devil in Palpatine openly tempting him to join the Dark Side.

Okay the the problem with this is that the context of Anakin murdering the sand people and the context of him murdering younglings is completely different. Anakin murders the sand people out of rage after they killed his mother, he sees all of them as responsible. Later he expresses guilt in his actions. In Epsiode III, we are never given strong reason as to why Anakin would believe the jedi are evil enough for him to actually murder children. All we is know he thinks the council has treated him unfairly. However, up until the moment where Windu is about the kill the only person he sees as capable of saving Padme, he's completely on their side. Even after he cuts off Windus hand and let's Palpatine kill him, you can tell he instantly regrets it. Before that Anakin told Palpatine that he would gladly kill him, and he wasn't hesitant at all about telling Mace Windu about Palpatine. He even urges Windu to keep Palpatine alive so that he can use Palpatine to save Padme. So why the sudden change in ideology? Why "from my point of view the Jedi are evil"? Because at this point all we've been lead to believe is that Anakin is willing to serve Palpatine in order to save Padme. But none of his actions at the end of the movie really line up with his ideals as we know them throughout the movies. He's fully committed to doing everything Palpatine says despite only hours earlier telling Palpatine that he'd gladly kill him. It would be fine if the film made it clear that Anakin is ONLY doing it for Padme, but the film clearly portrays an ideological shift in Anakin that simply doesn't line up with what we know of him a character. Simply foreshadowing his capability to do bad things isn't enough for us to buy into his complete shift in character.

Creative thinking is important. You can read great tie-in novels like "Darth Plagueis", "The approaching storm", "shatterpoint" and "Labyrinth of Evil" (all of which were created with Lucas' input). But at the end of the day: How much do you really need to be told? We know that the trade federation is interested in profits, that they probably hoped until the very end that Sidious would walk back from an actual invasion. We know that the republic is corrupt and has lost its way, since the senate is pretty unwilling to do more about the invasion than open up a Committee, discussing instead of sending a search party at the very second - or asking the jedi, as they didn't ever demand any payment. Valorum had lost his power, the senate didn't care, so he had to send the jedi in secret. Dooku betrays the disenfranchised people who had good reason to distrust the republic and want a clean alternative (as in Episode II he's seen having a secret meeting with the very corporations that wanted to make profits with the war). We know that Dooku isn't 100 % evil too, as he tried to get Obi-Wan on his side, tried to replace the republic with something better, even though as a count he was quite rich, rich enough (to quote the novelization of Episode III) to buy the republic, if he would have wanted. Dooku didn't exactly look sadistic after he'd beaten both Obi-Wan and Anakin in Episode II. Neither does he sound sadistic when he tells Mace Windu, who refused to give up, that he regrets his choice. We know that Mace lost his way, that he probably would have murdered Palpatine either way (remember that he knew about Palpatine's control over the senate and the courts before he went to battle him: the discussion of Ki Adi Mundi, Yoda and Mace after they send Anakin to Palpatine to tell him about how Obi-Wan has attacked Grievous), especially if they hadn't found any evidence against the chancellor. I doubt that Palpatine carried the death Star plans in his pocket, for example. Or what do you think? It's interesting how deeper Jango Fett becomes by simply having him demand Boba as part of his payment. You could argue that he was the selfish opposite to Shmi, as he wanted a child that he didn't have to share with a mother, someone he wanted to turn into the very man he would have liked to have been. Meanwhile Shmi allowed her son to leave her behind, even though she had no reason to think that her days as a slave were numbered. On the other hand Jango is also turned into somewhat of a human being, more than just a machine. The urge to leave something behind, to have a continued existence within a loved one's memory is understandible. And given the corrupt republic one can't blame him for being a bit bitter, same for Han. None of that excuses that he was involved in several murders, yet it also helps to show that even the seemingly evil can have people they care about. Hell, I even remembered an Interview with Ian where he said that Palpatine did (to an extent) care about Anakin. And one could argue that that makes sense. After all: he didn't really need a student, especially not one so damaged as Vader after Mustafar. But he saved him anyway, even when he surely was happy to know that Padmé, who probably would have become one of his strongest enemies, was killed without him even having to move so much as a finger. And perhaps its just me, yet I always imagined that Vader was waiting for the exact right moment to strike Palpatine down anyway. Which is why he offered Luke to join him. It's not that he believed Palpatine was a good guy, he simply feared what the Jedi would do after they would have learned that he was part of killing Mace. He wanted to save Padmé, he was greedy for power - yes. But I guess he also wanted to continue to improve what Power Plagueis had discovered. If one can create life and prevent people from dying... why shoudn't it be possible to at some point overthrow the force itself and become reality? A little bit like the "Infinite Tsukuyomi" plan from the villains in the Manga series "Naruto". If every one were trapped in an illusion of happyness, where no death and moarning existed, would that be real peace? Would it be a clever acknowledgement of the people's inability to understand each other and be selfless? Or would it have been a cowardly escape from facing the hard truths of life? Anakin idealized the Jedi as a child, and probably the Republic as well. Then he had to realize that his heroes also had flaws, unlike Palpatine they were never particularly friendly to him and even categorically dismissed his ties as bad. And Sidious offered him a path to end all the suffering, instead of simply returning the republic to its awful state prior to the war. You know: the one that lead to all the suffering in the first place? He saw an other option, even though its solution would have taken many years of conspiring and keeping an eye on his "partner" Sidious. Hell, there's even an argument that as reality itself he possibly could have brought all the people he'd murdered back to life. Or at least he could have hoped so. That doesn't man that what he did was good. It simply means there was more to him than just being a sadist bounty hunter, which many apparently wanted his backstory to be.

Comparing Dan and Annie is like comparing Apples and, well dogs. As for GoT or any other movie / TV adaption , they either loosely base it off the books / source material or pretty much completely base it off the the material. And of course Jeremy has an agenda, defending a Mary Sue. Defending how utterly powerful Rey is without any instruction or guidance. And yes, technically one can become good or evil without training (like the first Jedi for instance), it just doesn't make sense having someone who can flip flop from dark to light. This is also kind of murky territory with the whole Force Diad crap, but then again Mary Sue never really did have much dark character development. But if you're gonna complain about a character and their Ark or development... Complain about Luke's towards the end

WAIT he was comparing Danny's extremely shocking, quick turn to evil to Anikins. How the fuck do you have so much rage over this, its a pretty good comparison. Danny massacred a city out of the blue, without the writers setting it up or earning that turn. Anakin went from being on the fence about joining the dark side to personally murdering children with a handheld weapon, without alot of set up for such an act. PERFECT Comparison

I did hear your set up for Anakin, but ya i skipped around, nobody INTENTLY watches 24 min. videos on film theory arguments. You said there is NO valid comparison, explaining Danny only killed her enemies while Anakin went further with the sand people. However, i think the Sandies WERE merely enemies, they tortured his mom to death, and weren't human, and this isn't an atrocity impossibly different from Danny burning enemes. This does not deliver Anakin's character to the act of calmly hacking human children apart WITH A HANDHELD WEAPON because his boss asked nicely. I agree Anakin's set up was MILES better than the lazy ass GOT writing abomination, but disagree it was sufficient enough to promote Anakin's turn above ANY comparison to Danny's. Thanks for the response.
