It only took me a few weeks to come around and realize the movie was bad, and Angel not to long after that came around too. We were in the early wave of people to start to turn on TFA before TLJ woke everyone up.

The prequels and OT are a delicious three course meal, rich and filling. The mandalorian is a crusty McDonald’s burger, and the Sequels are sand. Star Wars fans have been stranded in a desert for decades, and when you’re starving even a McDonald’s burger is great. Especially when you’re surrounded by shitty, irritating as fuck *sand* .

There's a channel called So Uncivilized that I think you might enjoy. He currently has four videos on his channel that relate to Star Wars talking about the story structure, appreciating Jar Jar, praising Palpatine, and giving George Lucas props regarding the dialogue of the prequels.

Hey man, good video. I'm not denying there have been people who have always loved the prequels but from what I've seen, the prequel praise was most noticeable after the Disney trilogy was released. I've rewatched Episodes I and II and those films are better than I remembered but that's only because I've started to know more about the star wars lore. Watching the Clone Wars TV show definitely added more to the Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, however, as standalone films those movies are still mediocre to me. For example, one of my greatest gripes with Episode I is how they treated Maul but the Clone Wars saved the character from just being a silent one-dimensional obstacle. There are some things in Phantom Menace that are irreversible such as Anakin being perfect at everything, the jedi dash (wasn't use against maul for whatever reason), wooden acting, etc. Episode II is still on that mediocre level due to wooden acting, Padme giving JarJar her position as acting Senator (which makes zero sense to me still), the god awful romance scenes between Anakin and Padme, and Anakin's character only slightly upgrading from a Gary Stu in Phantom Menace but still obnoxious to watch. His best scene in the film is him first searching for his mom, everything else about him was pretty meh to me. And this sucks because Anakin is suppose to be the main character and should be the most interesting but Episode II dropped the ball and just made him annoying. This is the movie that's suppose to show Anakin as a good character and wow the audience but all he does is have cringe-inducing scenes with his love interest and bitch and moan the entire time. At the beginning of the movie he was somewhat enjoyable because his banter with Obi-Wan is actually funny. Overall, he wasn't enjoyable to watch as a character and the best scenes from Episode II either came from Obi-Wan or Jango. Episode III is corny but it's my third favorite star wars film in the franchise so I don't have much to say about the flaws of this movie. The acting, story, characters definitely upgraded and the Clone Wars TV show enhanced this film tenfold. When I think of a perfect trilogy like the Original Star Wars films I think of something of a trilogy such as Lord of the Rings. The OG Star Wars Trilogy and the Lord of the Rings trilogy to me are about as perfect as you can get and I can't put the prequels in the same tier. Maybe I should've talked more about good writing vs enjoyability because imo I feel like people enjoy the Prequels mostly based off the laughably bad scenes and when CN released Clone Wars, the Prequels actually felt more connected. Idk... I think it's mostly a combination of the Clone Wars TV show and the horrendous Sequel Trilogy that brought people to appreciate the prequels more. Good vid tho man, I like having discussions about stuff like this so it's good to hear feedback.

Man sometimes I feel stupid for not listening to my 6 year old brother when the TFA came out. He hated it. He told me Rey was too over powered for someone who just learned about the force and that they ruined Han's character and how it was just a A New Hope 2.0. He really hated how Han died. I was in denial until I bought the movie on DVD and watched it again. The I realized I hated it.

The Prequels have always been loved by the majority. After all the Prequels are the best Star Wars trilogy. It's the internet haters and the media establishment hated them.

I never really cared for Star Wars, until the hype of the ST started, so if anything, I have more nostalgia for the ST. Yet despite this, I much prefer the PT. I agree with you that we shouldn’t compare trilogies, instead individual movies, but the prequels are just better. Without my Rose-colored glasses, they are just great films. The sequels are just messes; that doesn’t mean I hate them, but they aren’t constructed well at all.

I’m a mandalorian fan, and believe me, I more than understand why that show doesn’t work for plenty of people and how many others are overblowing how great it is in comparison to the sequels(and ignoring the flaws). However, I say this as a big fan of you, I think this show is more than just fanservice(even though said fanservice isn’t treated that badly/dumb) and that the good outweighs the bad overall. Also, it turns out there will be a season 3 with din in it where he doesn’t have to rely on grogu cuteness and can actually be developed and improved on(I could be wrong about that last part but I could be right as well). Be my guest in regarding the mandalorian as overrated trash, there’s plenty of reasons to do so, but please consider the people who don’t love the show simply because boba fett showed up, thrawn’s name was dropped, and it isn’t the sequel trilogy; we’re not as shallow as the more casual viewers. Not wanting to be too harsh here, and I’m glad you recognized the importance of having not jake skywalker appear when done well, I only wanted to voice my thoughts on things.

Now THIS is a Christmas special I never saw coming. You have done well once again mate. I've watched Revenge of the Prequels a long time and see it as aseason. So it's welcome that season 2, if life and your schedules allow it, will be close to my birthday! I gotta say I agree with you about T3, but it's surprised me here to finding someone else liking T3, even if it was overtime. I loved T 1 and 2, but T3 is one I still loved in my younger days and got more detailed views on it as I got older. I loved the Prequels from Phantom Menace to Revenge of the Sith, I was growing into a teen and hadn't watched the OT until just before Revenge of the Sith, but I still love all six movies to different levels case by case on each movie. The prequels did fantastic things for Emperor Palpatine. In Return of the Jedi he was dark, evil Emperor but not much more than that. The Prequels however, showed me, overtime as I grew up, how INTELLIGENT and strategic in politics, strategy, subterfuge, corruption, and other aspects of statesmanship Palpatine is throughout the decades leading up to Order 66. I loved how George used historical (and some modern without taking sides) politics, and real military and political strategy to create the Empire in his storytelling. Excuse the tangent, but I got a lot of analysises of the Clone Wars era inspired by real history and modern geopolitics because of the stories of the prequels, expanded materials, and the universe that was born from it. Hell. I even played Empire At War with a Clone Wars mod. As a kid who grew up socially awkward and a little bit of a loner because I got disability and always had issue socializing (much better as an adult, but still would have no idea how to approach expressing romantic feelings) I gotta give George some real credit in making Anakin relatable with this awkward romance, and Hayden Christensen for making Anakin really relatable, and Natalie Portman for her side of the acting. Clone Wars has both supplemented the prequels, and also contradicted them, so I overall love it but know it's flaws as well. Refreshing to have my criticisms of Return of the Jedi voiced too. I can't believe that this guy is even suggesting Game of Thrones season 8 could be brilliant, because it is seriously awful beyond redeemable. I hate that argument as well. Not as much as this "these people are toxic for believing this, those people are toxic for liking this thing because they used to say this or that" such bullshit. I even came to disliking the word "toxic" in any other use than discussing radioactive waste. Overall, I respect you because you give a huge level of nuance to your thinking even if we disagree at times on other stuff, for example I share a lot of your criticisms of the Mandalorian but like some aspects of it. Keep it up mate and hope you had a good Christmas, and have a legendary New Year mate.

18:00 I cannot understand rampant enthusiasm for TFA. It didn't continue the story from ROTJ (let alone Episodes 1 to 6). It explains nothing. It doesn't act like Episode 7 - the seventh chapter of one cohesive story. No backstory. No OT cast. Terrible new characters. No plot/story. Reduced Han to a deadbeat dad. Rude random Rey the almighty the focus in a saga supposedly meant to be about the Skywalker and galactic events.

I watched the prequels in the theater when they came out and was blown away. I had never seen anything like them at the time. I guess it's easy to judge things differently this far removed but I always go back to how I felt at the time

I'm loving the revenge of the prequels. I agree with so much of your content, except for the mandalorian, which I really liked and see the good in them more. I wasn't really paying attention to nostalgia, because I wasn't really that drawn to the OT, and haven't even watched CW or Rebels. I just liked Din, his relationship with Grogu, and the cinematography and world building. But aside from that, great video

First of all, Merry Christmas Nomz! I am really happy to once more see a "Revenge of the Prequels" video from you, especially on this day. This video-essay-series is what brought me to your channel and I am really happy that I found someone in you who - just like me - grew up with the prequels, loved them too, and helped me understand why the prequels are not bad at all even more then I did on my own. One of the things I especially agree with you again and again is the overblown "importance" of Boba. Yes, he's a very cool looking, mysterious character in the OT, and his story and Lore got expanded on greatly f.e. in Clone Wars, but before that he was nothing but a gloryfied BAMF we knew nothing about. Of course I am not saying that he doesn't deserve the attention and fans he has today in any way. But now I've also gotta address 1 thing I find negative about you/your videos: I, such as many others, already commented on it under your video about the Disney SW series announcements: When it comes to The Mandalorian you sadly are behaving pretty hyppocritical. I have to admit that I haven't seen the series yet, so I cannot and will not comment on your criticisms, but it just seems like you are showing The Mandalorian the same blind hate many people show to the prequels. And that's just very sad to me. Not disappointing or anything, just sad. That's because I love all your other content, and it saddens me to see that you are on other topics behaving just like them. When I watched the first episode of The Mandalorian I was excited because it wasn't that bad but I gave up after the second episode. After that I watched but without any excitement and enthusiasm. It didn't get much better if at all.

Jar Jar (a genuinely funny and likeable character) had more character, depth, and purpose than Rey who is rough, coarse and irritating and has no business being the central character in the Skywalker saga.

Everyone that talks about how the Prequels are getting more love now doesn't mention a very important detail. That many of the kids that grew up with the Prequels and the Clone Wars, and loved them, are now young adults. They are now making their opinions heard. A lot of the PT love videos are being made by people like me, people that grew up with all 6 films and TCW ( I was 1 when TPM released).

Yes! Do a video showing how Episode 3 elevates the series as a whole! I'd love to watch that =) Literally just started the Mandalorian, mainly because I was tired of the internet spoiling it. Like it but it's the bestest thing ever.

I couldn't agree more about T3. When I saw it in theaters as a kid, I actually didn't think it was too bad; it just paled in comparison to its predecessors. But I also continued to watch it as I grew up, and I feel Nick Stahl's John Connor is incredibly underrated. With the passage of time, it's gone from 'not bad' to between 'like' and 'really like' for me. And I actually loved the ending. It really felt like this movie wasn't just the same, and thus forgettable, cat-and-mouse chase between Arnie and the villain that has no lingering ramifications to the story arc (like Dark Fate). These are the events that led up to Judgment Day, and we actually get to see a full real-time version of it (which I thought was done brilliantly and was a great closing sequence for the film). I also think this is how the franchise can be saved: do another retcon (because who cares how many there's been at this point) right after the events of T3, bring back Nick Stahl, and show John Connor's early days in the resistance. They could really have some interesting story material to delve into in terms of detailing all of John and Kyle's pre-time jump adventures. I always thought it would be cool to see a future John Connor interacting with a father that's younger than him and having to see John keep the truth a secret from him. Seeing how that played out would get me invested in the franchise again.

The way they treat Jar Jar in the Aftermath trilogy of books was unnecessarily mean-spirited. They say that he became a clown entertaining orphans on Naboo and that he can't show his face anymore as the whole galaxy blamed him for the rise of the empire. It's depressing, it's mean-spirited, and I hate it. Jar Jar was but another cog in Palpatine's mechanisms to gain power. He was a useful idiot to him. He thought he was doing good but unknowingly furthering Palpatine's plan and it's not right to blame him for what he couldn't have known but furthermore it was pure projection of them saying "We hate Jar Jar too!" Jar Jar being frozen in carbonite was funny. That wasn't.

The only trilogy that has disappointed or not meaningfully added something to the saga was the Disney one

Having watched this whole series I appreciate the thought put into it. I will say this I love ROTJ, always have and alway will. I have deep personal ties to the film but I do see the flaws in ROTJ. Thank you for doing this series to bring attention to the Prequels and give a voice to the community of Star Wars that has love the Prequels for years. For the record, I saw all three in theaters, went in cosplay for AOTC and I still have my ticket stubs. Might be silly but I’m a hardcore fan.

weasel batches is actually someone I have mixed feelings about. He does have good takes when it comes to Star Wars, but like Anomaly said he gets certain things wrong. Also I don't completely agree with his takes on comic book movies. I think he sucks the juices of Avengers Endgame way too hard. Avengers Endgame is a fun superhero flick, but I don't think its as great as people say it is. There's a lot of conveniences that happen with the characters themselves. Plus the pacing is a mess.

The entire sequel trilogy can be summed up by Maz's quote "A good question, for another time"

I know this series has been dead for years, but you NEED to do the Redlettermedia Plinkett reviews at some point as some kind of finale.

The good of the Prequels far outweigh the “bad”. There are 3 primary issues with the prequels. 1. Clunky dialog- I really wish George would’ve had a writer who excelled at dialog take a pass through the scripts to help smooth some things out. 2. Some of the acting- many great actors put in subpar performances. This may of had to do with the the aforementioned dialogue, but I think it also had to do with acting in a virtual space, where it’s mostly green screen. Actors have got very used to it now, but back then, this was cutting edge. I wish George would have brought in another director to help, perhaps one with experience in stage direction without sets, to help the actors adapt to this different environment. 3. Tone- I think George corrected this as he went along and it was fine by RotS, but some of the “gags” in Phantom Menace seemed out of place in Star Wars. The positives, Ewan McGregor & Ian McDiarmid did amazing, even with the clunky dialogue & acting against a green screen, etc. The overall story arc was great. The lightsaber choreography was awesome. The world building was great, even the midi-chlorians,, which I swear people intentionally don’t understand or don’t want to understand. They don’t “ruin the force”, because they aren’t the force. It would be like saying “mass ruins gravity”, gravity isn’t mass. Yes, things with more mass have more gravity, but we still don’t really know exactly what gravity is. Gravity is still pretty mysterious, look it up if you don’t believe me. The CGI still stands up, it looks better than some things marvel put out last year.

I grew up with the prequels or more so, just after the prequels as I was born in 99 so I was 5 or 6 when Revenge of the Sith came out. To me, there's one big difference between the prequels and the sequels: the prequels never got people to stop caring about Star Wars. Two or three years after Revenge of the Sith, the Clone Wars movie and TV series kicked off and merch for Star Wars was always selling well. Meanwhile the sequels have resulted in Star Wars practically being on life support with Mandalorian being the only thing really keeping Star Wars alive. Part of the reason Mandalorian is successful is that it is going back to what recreate what made people love Star Wars and depending on who you are, it either works or doesn't. For me it works but not enough to be excited for other shows. I'm being dead serious when I say that the only Star Wars content I look forward to is Lego Star Wars Skywalker Saga which is a reimagined Lego Star Wars The Complete Saga that includes episodes 7,8, and 9 and the only reason I will touch that 3rd of the game is because I love Lego video games. In other words, I'm more interested in the Lego side of the game rather than the Star Wars side. The TL;DR is that even at the height of the prequel hate, whenever that was, people still cared about Star Wars. The same cannot be said about the sequels. The sequels have made life-long fans such as myself apathetic towards the future.
