Generals deserves to be remembered. It is iconic for the Command and Conquer franchise. I still play it and it aged perfectly.

The first thing that got me into this game was my cousin mentioning that you can create Angry Mobs.

Honestly Generals' soundtrack is my second favourite after Red Alert 2.

I returned to this game and yeah its... still very fun to play. And technically well put together. Even if it isn't really follow the C&C line of ideas but who cares. It is fun it is cheap to get!

I think it's the best C&C game. It's not racist. It's prejudice and plays on the stereo type. And China did raise a stink about this game.

GLA campaign was the highlight of the game both in terms of the missions and unit, also the scrapping mechanics was excellent.

Mods makes this game competitive to the present day, but then again, mods also crank up the ridiculousness of the game...

Renegade wasn't the first 3D C&C game. The 1999 N64 port of the original game was clearly 3D.

Actually, first Westwood RTS in 3d was Emperor: Battle for Dune. But yeah, I understand its not C&C.

I don't think i ever did a full playthrough of this game, mostly multiplayer and skirmish, things i loved about it; - it being over the top, - the super weapons, - as china taking over the other factions giving you access to all super weapons, - gla slaves saying things like "ouch ok ok" with a very cheesy middle eastern accent, - gla's angry mob units :) As for zero hour, I'm not quite sure if i ever played it.

My favourite lines have to be from the GLA, really shows how fragile unity within that organization is due to the polar opposites they have strapped to the same green flag Also as for the story, the GLA is a very loose coalition of freedom fighters, warlords, Mad scientists, religious fanatics, syndicates, disgruntled militant activists and their supporters from all around the world, as a result of being that disunited they don't actually have a set goal besides "liberation" until a lone Warlord forcibly unites them in Zero Hour and then "liberates" Europe. Mind you, this happened after the USA pulled out dictators in the middle east comparable to the Arab Spring and after China forced it's influence over South East Asia (namely, by annexing Taiwan before the US could react). Oh, and Aldastan As to why both would do that and wreck europe with wacky weapons of mass destruction? Cause why the hell not?

Was Act of War considered as a spin off game from the "Command and Conquer" series? If so I think that game takes the cake.

Your review presented a different perspective on this game. People seem to forgive a lot of stuff that this game has, be it graphics, racism or other things you mentioned, may be due to nostalgia, but it is there, you're right it does poke a little fun rather than offend people. The game is still live and being played all over the world; some KZfaq channels depend on this game entirely. The game plays amazingly, with some bugs here and there, it is a challenge for most people. The most annoying bug sometimes can occur on maps with large amount of units with crazy FPS drops even on high end machines to this day.

If you start off with playing the first games this is quite improving. I agree with you never got perfect but number 2 is better. I think good direction/

Have to dissagree on the USA resource issue. GLA relies on the scrap ability and derricks, their one money gernealing building only does 20$ bucks. CHina is the fastests with the hackers but they are vunerable. USA has the best. get enough supplu drops and you are fine. Just make sure you have atlest one goign before you run out of supplies.

When are the Halo games going to be reviewed?

This and Zero Hour are the only C&C games I’ve ever owned. My mother found them at the dump of all places! Sadly I couldn’t get them to work, especially since I thought it looked very entertaining. I’m tempted to grab the Ultimate Collection just for this, Zero Hour, Red Alert 3, and Uprising.

The music is alost entirely based around ripping off the battle theme from Black Hawk Down. As is the elaborate Crashing animation of the helicopters.

One thing you forgot to mention about the soundtrack is that all 3 factions have their own soundtrack. Only the US soundtrack sounds like something from a Tom Clancy game.

I always found it interesting how this game was received. I bought it day one, giant box and everything because I loved the C&C series so far, TS and RA2 being some of my favourite games of all time, also had a soft spot for RA:Retaliation on PS1 for introducing me to the series. But when I got Generals... Man I was disappointed, I guess it just wasn't what I was expecting at the time and my preconceptions ruined it for me. Maybe I should go back to this, in retrospect it can't be as bad as C&C4... XD

When I saw the GLA and the similarities in some groups in the middle east and the lack of the feel of C&C, thats when I disconnected at this point. I'm not saying its a bad game but it rather shocked me in some way. Ohh and that hacking farm...its too overpowered lmao

Hate this game. It should not be called C&C at all. And the 3D sucked, even at day one! Another game that should be in 2D first and foremost, even if its just for overview reasons. The camera was so close to the ground, so zoomed in, i was more scrolling than actual playing the damn garbage game. Nothing in this game felt good, or even remotely enjoyable. To hell with it and EA!!
