That was a terrific review. My decision to buy some WalthersProto 85' Budd Metroliners will be based on your review. I like the way you demonstrate the working features of the Metroliner.

Great review I'm probably going to purchase one because I find the metroliners interesting and I love Amtrak since my cousin used to dosecurity there.

Jim, thanks for your review. I decided not to procrastinate anymore and get a set as they're being discontinued! . Right now, they're cheaper to buy at Walthers than on Ebay. These are a BIG LEAP over the old Bachmann versions. Although I'm a DCC modeler, I decided to go the DC (DCC Ready) version, and will install an ESU Loksound decoder setup in one car, and equip the other 3 cars with non-sound decoders. I'm sure that Walthers tried to get everything right, but the horn doesn't sound like a Leslie S55/S37 combo of the prototype. Overall, Walthers did an EXCELLENT job on these units.

The only real problem with the Phase 2 ones is that they are missing the roof vents.
@pennsylvaniarailroadrailfa78055 жыл бұрын
The horn is also far from correct

Its cool stuff like this that make me wish I choose HO gauge instead of N.
@Jefff9449 жыл бұрын
Make sure you reprogram the horn on the decoder. The prototype uses an S3L. Its preinstalled on the decoder.

Great review as always. Wealthers got the lighting on the Budd car perfect. Is that some track and switches behind you. Laying track soon are you hint hint.

Hey James, I was wondering how many locomotives do you have in total?

have the same model in N scale unfortunately my train is missing in poor condition pantograph and gearbox faulty great pity a very nice train and the model is also very rare in Germany

For the price of those Metroliners you would think they could at least get the right horn sound.

Yeah, really...

They are really expensive
@ACLTony6 жыл бұрын
Prices have dropped! If you want any from Walthers go for it as once they're out of stock; that's it. On ebay, prices are all over the place.

Link?
@ACLTony6 жыл бұрын
For prices, just go to Walthers dot com. When there, type "Metroliner" in the search bar. As of this date (February 2018) they still have some in stock and the prices are lower than 2 years ago. Consider that you're getting a stainless steel-type finish, full realistic lighting, accurate body detailing, and an interior. These are a HUGE leap ahead of the 1970's-80's Bachmann Metroliners.

The "marker lights" tell passengers the car number, destination, or other. Like the signs across the top of a bus windshield.
@DaBobsNScaleMancave9 жыл бұрын
That is a cool model. I may need to get some of these in N scale if I can find some. Probably something not made by Walthers is available. Great video.

Awesome, I'm hoping they make the phase V cab car since they were made from old metroliners. Oh yeah on other thing, your description is from your last video. Just a heads up

How do you get the automatic bell on your old layout please tell me ?
@vwgolfer18739 жыл бұрын
Been wanting to own a couple of these for awhile now. but my layout is smaller and the largest turns i have are 22 so thats not gonna happen. But they are beautiful trains.
@joenewstead48489 жыл бұрын
Would you possibly do a wealthers proto 2000 0-6-0? I an considering to get a bigger 0-6-0 cause my bacmann 0-6-0,s are great. But are struggling with newer and bigger rolling stock. I think there really cool. Plus they make them in many road names. I think even a Union Pacific. Well was just wondering. Let me know if you can. Love the interview,s. I really mean that. Hey any plans for a April fool day prank? 😉

I thought the Walthers Stainless finish was so shiny, were the prototype Budd cars actually that shiny? That puzzled me when I bought some Proto Amtrak coaches...
@ACLTony6 жыл бұрын
Yes, the stainless steel finish was very reflective when new.

Marlen, people request certain items for review. I just try to get it reviewed for them. Sometimes it kills my wallet to do so and sometime it doesn't. Funds are 70% recoup-able though!
@AmtrakFanatic9 жыл бұрын
+jlwii2000 Are you saying that you buy things just to review? I love your videos, but isn't that kind of a waist of money? I could be wrong. Just a question, not judging or anything like that.

Not sure if you said so, but does the pantograph actually work if I want to run on live catenary ?
@shanejones56906 жыл бұрын
Yes they can be changed to catenary pickup. it is in the directions. Pantographs are metal.

@GregPalmer10008 жыл бұрын
Would this unit use amfleet coaches or other coaches in its consist/rakes?
@beyondDCC8 жыл бұрын
+Greg Palmer . No the metroliners were always coupled as 2 driving motor car back to back sets. A train would typically consist of 2 sets.
@Squad103128 жыл бұрын
+Greg Palmer Amtrak still uses the MU cars on the rear of a handful of sets on their trains on the North East Corridor. Typically the Mid Atlantic Division (Philadelphia to Harrisburg). It has a lead engine now the ACS-64 previously the AEM-7 which typically pulls 8 non powered passenger cars, and one MU unit. The number of passenger cars sometimes varies. I live along the NEC and I see them every single day I also spent some time working in the Train Movement Dept with Amtrak in the MAD. The paint scheme of course has changed. And the front of the MU car is now Yellow/Black chevrons. So if you're looking to modernize your lay out you can use these on your consists.
@saberstash38448 жыл бұрын
+FireResQ6387 The Metroliners now actually aren't MUs. All motors and associated electrical gear have been removed and any remaining ones are used as cabcars.
@ACLTony6 жыл бұрын
FireRescue, but not in this form. The ex-Metroliner cars that are in use today had their pantographs removed and were rebuilt into "cab cars" for use on the locomotive hauled "push-pull" trains.

great looking metoliner but they do not have any good pulling power i have the old bachmann car to add up to it a and it could not pull it i love these car i wish they would had build them like they did the kato p42 with the motors in the trucks had to buy two of them to pull a 4 car train and redid the wheels on the old metoliners to roll and i am not that happy with them but i think they were to be all powered and not added up with dummies but as far as looks it is great
