I have owned Tacoma's and now a 2020 Honda Ridgeline so I can see both points of view. I was really close on pulling the trigger on buying a 2020 Tacoma Limited but I couldn't get over the comfort and the way the Ridgeline drove so I switched to the Honda and I am not looking back baby. If we are honest with ourselves, most daily use for these types of vehicles will be on the road and this is where the Ridgeline excels. Just my 2 cents!

Yep! It completely depends on what you’re going to do with it. For most people you are 100% right. The Ridgeline is going to do much better on the road. For us on our long trips when we’re doing 600 to 700 miles of off-road with some pretty technical to rain the Tacoma made sense. But it’s about how you use your vehicle and no one can make that judgment for you. As I’ve said before the Ridgeline has really surprised me and what its capabilities are.

This is why I chose the Ridgeline over any other midsize truck. The rest were terrible for daily use. All others had a cramped interior (especially the rear seats).

The Ridgeline is not really designed for off road but it can hold its own in many cases. Not a bad trade off for a much better ride in its 90% of time on the road. Also, the addition of a little lift and some sturdy skid plates and the Ridgeline would do as well as the others.

My 2018 Honda Ridgeline had 5 safety recalls, made noises and was in the shop for 10 days and honda couldn't find the source and said just keep driving it it may wear down (which 5,000 miles it did) - also, the 2017-2019 ridgelines have a defect with the engines where fuel injectors are pushed in to far and clog up. Many blogs talk about this and around 50k miles i had to get mine fully replaced because check-engine emission light came on. Lots of folks have this issue. Also the 2017-2019 power train (transmission) is used on the ridgleine/odessy and pilot all have many issues with failing between 50k-70k and it costs about 5k repair. I got rid of my 2018 honda ridgeline this January of 2023 and traded it in for a Mazda. I don't miss it at all, A few weeks after dumping it i got an email of yet another recall regarding tailgate camera. So happy don't have to bring that dang thing back into the shop to waste hours for another warrenty repair. Anyway, Honda Civics and the Honda CRV have different teams and they are reliable, for me the Honda Ridgeline had the most recalls then any vehicle i ever owned and I had zero confidence it was going to last. When I drove it all i kept thing was "what's the next thing to go wrong". I am so happy i got rid of it, and not ever buying another Honda again, it was a painful experience. Watching this video all i can think of is - dude, good luck with your transmission you putting way to much strain on it, it won't last long cause of how bad the ridgeline 2017-2019 transmissions are.

I just wish the Honda had another inch of ground clearance and 4wd instead of AWD. I’d be a buyer then. Although the Tacoma’s absolutely suck when it comes to comfort, features, gas mileage. Test drive one 3 years in a row and never purchased. The most uncomfortable vehicle I think I’ve ever driven. Sucks because I’ve owned a tundra and 4Runner and they’re more than fine. Tacoma needs a redesign.

We should have a new walk around soon. The Ridgeline is getting a 3.5 inch lift on Monday. It’s also had a bunch more done to it. I’m not a big fan of the new Tacomas. But I have zero complaints about my second GEN Tacoma. Fuel mileage is better than my previous jeep, and the reliability is great. I agree the features are lacking, but that’s not a huge deal to me. Less gadgets and electronics the better. I really wish the transfer case was manual like the new 4Runners. I don’t think I’ve ever driven a stock Tacoma. I bought mine as a TRD pro with the upgraded suspension and have just made upgrades since then. My buddies new third-generation Tacoma also has upgraded suspension so I’m not super familiar with the way it drive stock. But after the upgrades I love the way the thing rides.

You don’t buy a ridge line to off road. You buy one because it covers a majority of what people need in a truck while still being able to take off road. People equate “off road” with rock crawling and mud pits. A lot different than enjoying trails which a majority of 4x4s can do in stock form.

@@nicoleandseankepler7777 im not sure what your definition of off road is, but where I take my truck the ridgeline would probably leave me stranded or get some serious damage. Ridgeline does almost everything your normal work truck can do, like going to Home Depot and pick up 4x8 sheetrock and plywood. Now people are pushing this AWD system and see what else it can do. There are other channels that show how the Passport are going places where you normally don't see AWD vehicle. This Honda AWD system is pulling some crazy tricks. Wouldn't it be nice to have like an Accord that can go to Home Depot and go off some small trails? This is what the Ridgeline/Passport/Pilot are doing.

@@misterle7026 why are people always so triggered and defensive when anyone says anything even slightly negative about them? I already said it's a great truck im just saying why would anyone with off road in their mind buy this? For example my truck would walk over everything they did in the video. But it's not perfect by any means. And neither is the ridgeline, and it's most definitely not very capable off road by truck standards. And that's ok👌 don't get all weird about it.

It is much better off road and has more useful hauling capacity even though it’s a car. Trucks by definition are body on frame, longitudinal front engine, and rear based 4x4. The RL has none of those and is less off road worthy than many cars.

@@user-tb7rn1il3q your reply is partial ignorant, as not many cars are better off-road, you would be limited mostly to Subaru, which has an aging AWD system and CVT, the biggest fault In the ridgeline comparing to say a Subaru is the ground clearance, which can be raised 1.5 inches easily, some raise It more but I wouldn’t, the Honda AWD system is better than most which is what makes this so popular, check out all the videos of the ridge, off-roading with other vehicles, even a few snow and ice videos on dash cams with 4x4 trucks and cars slipping while the ridgeline is the only one that goes right through, Honda does AWD right. your not going to do anything major in this, nor would you even the trd model of the RAV4 which is a big disappointment and shouldn’t have the trd badge. Even the critics agree on this. also The ridgeline compressed less than several major models when at full load, Even better than a 1500 Dodge Ram 4x4, but not all it was compared to, it was in the middle of the pack, again it was going against 6-7 actual trucks. So if you want something good in the snow, a few inches of mud, ice, dirt roads, and good for off-road with no rocks more than 5-6”, can haul things around with a trunk for not a ton of money, then this is a good bet.

@@neomis0119 Honda AWD systems and transmissions are very weak. They overheat and the RL becomes a big paperweight. The combination of ground clearance and wheelbase make the RL less capable than an AWD Camry. The RL has horrible wheel articulation. Worst of all the RL uses an overhead cam crasher engine with rubber timing belt. The RAV4 does very well off road, even the prime model in electric mode. I’d never waist money on the TRD model. At that point just get a 4Runner. The bed on the RL is to shallow to be of any real use. Things will fly out.

@@user-tb7rn1il3q which AWD System and Transmission are you comparing to. RL is towing 5K lbs with ease. No other AWD system can beat Honda's. It's the only true Torque Vector out there. Stop hating.

These Ridgeline owners think their Ridgeline soccer mom SUV with a bed in the back is superior. LOL.
