No one has sung this song better then the late great Bobby Hatfield (1940-2003) of the 'Righteous Brothers.' This live television performance back in 1965 on the Andy Williams Show. Was considered one of the greatest performances in television history. This song was written for a prison movie titled 'Unchained' (1955). Recording artist from around the world have sung it making it one of the most recorded songs in history. Ten years later in a live television performance Bobby Hatfield gave an epic performance of 'Unchained Melody' making his rendition the quintessential version of them all. And ever since recording artist from around the world have used his version as it became the standard ever since. The rest as they say is history...

It was a beautiful addition to the movie Ghost... but this live performance is well up and beyond that level despite being performed on a live stage with no enhancements, auto tune, etc. This level of talent in extremely rare.

First there are 2 brothers they're a duo not a group but at times they did solos also. This one was Bobby Hatfield singing alone.Bill was there just not singing. Bobby Hatfield owns this song no one before him or after him will ever do this song like Bobby This performance was effortless and sheer perfection. Many fell in love to this song and with him he was gorgeous.

I think people aren’t pushed as hard to develop their natural talent because they can lean on technology to “ smooth things out” instead of having work on themselves to achieve their own perfection. Just an opinion. It’s nice to see the look of joy you give when experiencing these old classics.

He describes how long his time feels like away from her but he knows time is the enemy here and how time can change feelings. He wants to know if she’ll be there when he is unchained from his prison cell.

Yes mam. This indeed was a beautiful song written for a movie in 1955 called "Unchained" by Mr. Alex North. The movie was everything but a. success. But as time went on, it was performed by over 670 other artists including Elvis Presley in multiple languages. It was the most played song in the Twentieth Century in America, throughout Canada and the UK. Bobby Hatfield's rendition was picked ober everybody else's version which came out later on in a movie called "Ghost" which in my opinion was a pretty good movie too. Anyway I truly do thank uou for playing this beautiful love song, it really means a lot to me young lady. They, unfortunately do not play or sing many love songs like that anymore. The older music is higher quality because music wasn't a huge industry back then like it is now. If you were going to make it you had to be really good. The crazy thing about this song is that it was live. He could have sang this song to you on the street and it would have sounded just as good because the artists were not relying on editing and vocal effects back then.

You need to check out The Temptations "I Wish It Would Rain". It is my theory, and it's just a theory, that the reason singers from the past sounded so good was that they loved the music and they loved singing and they wanted to become great singers and they were willing to practice practice practice until they got the song perfect. Many singers today do not seem overly concerned with becoming great singers. Their primary concern seems to be that they want to become a celebrity and they want to get rich and they are NOT willing to put the time and effort into their music that the guys from the past were willing to put into their music. Also, old school singers HAD to be good because they recorded usually on just one track and if one person messed up the entire thing had to be done all over and most of them at least started on a shoestring budget and they did not have the money to pay studio musicians to spend day after day in the recording session while the singer made mistake after mistake. Many of these guys recorded their music in one take and that isn't because they were willing to just slap something together and call it good. It's because they had practiced so much that they were able to perform their song perfect the first time. If you want to get some idea what I am talking about watch the song I recommended at the beginning of this post, The Temptations, "I Wish It Would Rain". When you see the synchronized moves the Temptations made as they were singing you know they had to practice over and over and over to get those moves right and of course in the meantime they were perfecting the vocals. Plus, these guys had great voices. They HAD to have great voices. Today if someone LOOKS good they can slop something down and some one can come along with autotune and clean up all the times they missed the tune. Obviously, these early singers had no such thing available to them and so their voice had to actually be good. Okay, so that's my theory.

Quay. Okay a few things. Yes they used this in the ghost movie soundtrack. This is Bobby Hatfield. His partner is Bill Medley. They are a duet and sing together most of the time. If they found a song that worked better as a solo they did that. Both guys wanted to do this song, so they flipped a coin and Bobby won. Bobby suffered a little bit from stage fright and to make it worse his Mom was in the audience that night so he was all kinds of nervous, but you'd never know it by his performance. I read where this has been called the best ever live performance of a pop song and that's hard to argue. Another one of their big hits (that Bill sang) is called "You've lost that lovin' feeling". That was in a movie also. Tom Cruise used it to try to pick up the woman in the bar in "Top Gun". We sadly lost Bobby Hatfield too soon to health issues caused by drug issues. They were playing a show in Kalamazoo, Mich and he didn't show up at the time they had agreed on so Bill and their road manager went to the hotel and found he had passed in his sleep. Supposedly a heart attack brought on by cocaine use. One of the greatest voices ever. I don't know if this is true, but I have been told that that last note is just below what would be high C for a woman soprano. Amazing. Oh and side note. They were doing a concert in their early days when they had a different name. They were in California near a marine base and there were a bunch of marines in the audience. After a song one young black marine yelled out "that was righteous brothers". The guys heard it, liked it and kept it. Stay safe and well. Keep lighting up the world with that smile. Peace.

HaHaHa, "old school type". Some of the best music and best music influence came out of the 60's & 70's. I'm lucky, I also lived to like music of the 50's as well. But, Motown of the 60's was my favorite. Good that a young person is "looking back" at old school ways. Amazing what you can learn!
