How far did he hit it?

fgfdgfdg He was over 60 years old but he could still hit it about 250 or more. The question to me is not how far he hit it but how well he played? If you are looking to be a long hitter and join the long drive tour this has nothing to do with scoring. He could shoot in the 60s when he was over 65, that was remarkable.

@@shofey I don’t remember exactly when it was. I was there with Jack Kkykendall who knew him and worked with him. It must have been Winter because it was not to hot and it rained almost ever day at the same time.

He is flexing the shaft at P5 and releasing it through the div, like a leaf spring. Insanely hard to do, by the way!

You don't lose distance. I actually gained distance I was hitting 270-280 yard drivers and an occasional 300 yarder. My irons are longer too. PW 135-140 9i 145-150 8i 150-155 7i 165-170 these are distances with traditional lofts not jacked up lofts either

I dug into the question of whether Moe Norman could hit it 300 yards which he said a number of times during these clinics. The answer is Yes, he did. When he wanted to. He had heart bypass surgery in 1998 I think it was. Maybe he lost a bit of distance but it's hard to say. These videos don't make it clear. No shot tracker and all that. But there's enough testimony to say that he definitely hit it 300 yards when he said he would.

@@ToddGravesGolf How would a Moe Norman documentary help the professional golf teaching organization? I think that's a rhetorical question. Does the PGA want to change? Why rock the boat? With your help it probably will change but it will take some time.

In other videos and interviews Moe explains his laser focused determination and positivity. He hit around 700 balls a day and developed his technique by listening to his body. He spent hours and hours per day practicing but I think his most impressive trait is his mental toughness.

What do you need to know?

@@ToddGravesGolf thanks for the reply, I need to know if the set up is the same for single length clubs. I know that all the clubs at in 7 iron legnth I just want to make sure the swing is Correctly done for them

@@sambenson8787 Sure. Same setup. Only difference that you might find is that ball position. I would stick with a 6 iron width stance, and adjust ball position more forward with longer clubs.

Moe struck the ball with ideal angles of approach. He did take divots but they were very shallow and often times, the lie of the ball dictates whether you see a divot or not. A divot is created naturally from the hands leading the club into impact. You should not TRY to take a divot and Moe - did not try either.

Dusty. Are you asking for a "quick" solution or a "long-term" one? The reason I ask is that having great technique maximizes your distance potential. From there, you must develop speed. If your swing movement is technically sound then your must develop arm speed to increase club speed. To do this you must work in this order - Lower body stability, Upper Body Rotation (RANGE and speed) and then from there you can begin to move the arms faster. One way that I accomplished this is simply by bracing my lower body and simply making fast arm swings. I would try this first but you must do it every day for at least one month. Are you up for it?

The irons Moe used in the 60s and 70's (his favorite clubs) were the Topflite Bird over ball (brand). They were blades. Later in his life he used Titleist Cavity Back irons. Here is a blog I wrote about his clubs which are in a golf shop in Canada. moenorman.org/2016/12/27/moes-favorite-clubs/

I can answer that and you could as well. Read the book, The Feeling of Greatness: The Moe Norman Story. He had social problems that made it virtually impossible to play head to head with the top pros and so forth. Some thought maybe he was autistic or something along those lines. Despite possibly being the greatest golfer there was no way he could fully compete as most people could have done with that talent and work ethic. And it is not just that he was probably the greatest ball striker, the rest of his game, the short game was excellent. The only place I could tell he was lacking was putting. His view was that putting wasn't part of golf. The idea was to hit it close to the hole and tap it in, or something to that effect. You'll see, if you watch most of the videos of him, that his short game was fantastic. Very accurate up to the point of putting.

Probably jealousy. It's like nearly all the teaching out there doesn't teach you mechanics to hit the ball straight and accurate. At least I think that is part of it. If Moe had the social skills he would have been the Tiger Woods of his era. I'm quite sure of that. And a lot more pros would be teaching Moe's swing, like Todd Graves.
