RoboCop (Peter Weller) has been reprogrammed to dispense platitudes, manners, and lessons in not smoking.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The serialized story structure and barbed social commentary from comic book creator and co-writer Frank Miller earned critical respect in this satirical science fiction sequel directed by Irvin Kershner. Peter Weller returns as RoboCop, a futuristic cyborg fashioned from cutting-edge technology and the biological remains of slain Detroit police officer, Alex Murphy. Still patrolling the city streets, RoboCop is scheduled by his creator, Omni Consumer Products, to be replaced by a new "superior" model, RoboCop 2, that according to designer Juliette Faxx (Belinda Bauer), will contain the human remains not of a cop but a criminal. In the meantime, an instantly addictive drug called Nuke is sweeping through Detroit thanks to a kingpin named Cain (Tom Noonan). Taking Cain to task, RoboCop is captured and dismantled. When he's put back together, the cyborg is reprogrammed with a series of socially conscious commands (in a sly mocking of the then relatively new concept of "political correctness") that render him impotent as a law enforcer. Taking charge by rewiring himself with an electrical overload, RoboCop arrests Cain, who is injured in the process. Faxx secretly takes Cain's brain and inserts it into RoboCop 2, turning the robot immediately into a law-breaking murder machine and leading to a violent showdown between two generations of robotic crime-fighters.

@T O there was no fourth RoboCop movie. There was a cartoon which was bad (horrible, but I watched it anyway being a kid) And a TV show that was just as horrible.... 3 was the last one...... And it was HORRIBLE. Wait I know what you're talking about now,.. the one that came out RECENTLY..... Lol That one wasn't a SEQUEL it was a modern re-design of the first one....... I like that one too. I just glad they aren't making any more ( I think it didn't do well in the box office to warrant any more movies.)

From what I heard this turn with Robocop was a jab at the critics from the first movie. At the time critics thought Robocop should have been toned down, friendly, and more of a super hero like the SuperMan who was kind and good. So the subplot of OCP giving him all these directives and making him "good" was to show what would happen if they did this and this is the result. It's ridiculous, everyone mocks him, and Robocop is now incompetent and a joke.

@@MrFrankFurter If it were bad I would agree, but it really isnt terrible. It's a pretty decent movie provided you dont constantly compare it to the original and let the movie stand on its own. Which, due to it not being a shot for shot remake of the first one, is easily done.

Man, RoboCop driving the speed limit as an example is an awesome thing. Cops can drive slightly over the limit all the time, but as soon as a normal citizen does it, a ticket comes your way.

That was literally the case of a Bosnian guy getting killed by a policeman in 2005 in San Jose when the new law against smoking near public places was passed and the guy didn't comply. The guy wasn't 100% right in his head (he was in a Serbian concentration camp), but was unarmed. He didn't obey the cop, the cop didn't like that, and it escalated from there to the point of at least 3 bullets ending in the poor guy's back.

I love how this scene ends, After Robocops done character assassinating himself with alot of cringe worthy anecdotes, he shoots around that guys head with precision accuracy, Robocop may sound like a clown here BUT MAKE NO MISTAKE, just one of bullets could take a persons head clean off, so thus his baddass status is left intact. Suffice to say that guy will think twice before smoking again :)

@@DelPiero2004 I live a few blocks away in the "Ikea" townhome cluster. The neighborhood sure has changed in 30 years. The church and the house by the hydrant are about all that's left. Even the fire hydrant is gone (or likely never was, since hydrants are blue in H-town).

Honestly I kinda wish Robocop stayed this way for the rest of the movie, and the sequel. Being polite to actual criminals and being insanely hostile towards people over minor misdemeanors.

When I was 4 to 6 years old and my mom had to go into work on the weekend she'd bring me along and I'd get some long john silvers and pop in a vhs of robocop. She was the only one in the office. She's a great mother.

The newer RoboCop movie will never match the original one. I liked how slow and clunky he actually was and all the different robotic noises. Especially his footsteps where badass. When they tried to make the new on all quick and fluid moving, they just ruined it.
