Build ripped athletic muscle without screwing up your shoulders
athleanx.com/x/build-muscle-sa...
The rotator cuff is one of the most misunderstood group of muscles in the body. Knowing how to stretch the rotator cuff might be even more misunderstood. In this video, I show you two of the best rotator cuff stretches that you can do and why you need to know the difference between them if you are going to do them right.
The rotator cuff consists of 4 muscles (not one as most believe). Three externally rotate the shoulder; the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, and teres minor. One internally rotates the shoulder; the subscapularis. If you have been lifting weights and working out for any length of time you are likely very overdeveloped and imbalanced into internal rotation. If this is the case, attempting to stretch the external rotators is not going to help your situation.
You would be much better off strengthening your rotator cuff muscles like the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, and teres minor while focusing your stretching efforts on just the subscapularis. I show you a great stretch you can do using a golf club, broom stick, wooden dowel or anything stable around the house.
Not only will this help to stretch your internal rotators of your rotator cuff but also the contributing muscles like the pecs, lats, front delts and more. To get the most out of this rotator cuff stretch, be sure to hold it for 30-60 seconds and be consistent with doing it. Aim for 3-5 stretching sessions per week if you want to start making an impact on the tightness you're feeling.
For a complete workout program that helps you to build ripped, athletic muscle without overlooking the smaller things that are just as important, be sure to head to athleanx.com to get your complete ATHLEAN-X Training System.

This is why it's important to get advice from somebody whose knowledge is well-rounded. As happy as I am with exercising and the prospect of not being skinny any more, that subscapularis stretch brought me the greatest joy of the last few months. Thanks for putting invaluable information like this out there, Jeff.

9 years later, it's quite possible that Jeff made millions of people aware of face pulls, external rotation, and rotator cuff's whole existence. Out of those, I'm ready to bet at least a few hundred thousand actually started training their rotator cuffs. Insane.

I have had a lot of shoulder problems over time, mostly stemming from sports injuries in school, and over time the loss of range of motion caught up with me, and when I started playing tennis again that caused a lot of problems. Learning about this and working on the shoulders in a sensible way, focusing on the rotator cuff and the movements they support while keeping the load reasonable and the reps up, has made a huge difference in my comfort level, range of motion, and success using advanced tennis technique. I wish this kind of information had been available to me when I encountered those shoulder problems. But now it is available to all of us. Thank you!

Jeff! I want to thank you for providing me with this essential information. Every time I did military press with dumbbells, my left shoulder would begin to hurt. Now, I do these stretches in between sets and I feel like I can keep doing more sets. Thank you. My cousin just had surgery on his rotator cuff. When I learned of his injury, I became wary on doing shoulder workouts. you are one of the perfect trainers i have seen here so far! no joke. and to know this is because ''you'' start off knowing all the major muscles and thier groups due to being a proffesional PT. apparently they are hard to find as workout trainers in some states. i used to work as an ''aide'' to the PT's back home, Tx. and i learned a great deal from them on the whole muscle format of the body. but , i digress , trainers LIKE YOU are difficult to come by! keep the vid's comin' PLEASE

For the stretch where you squat down, try doing 1 arm at a time and pushing the arm in as far as possible. This allows for a much greater stretch. I had a long-term scapula injury and doing the 2 arm version did not fix my injury. I tried doing it with only 1 arm and it healed in 2 weeks.

Thanks a bunch for posting this! I'm thinking I had a strain or something in the area and it hurt, just to lift my arm. I did this yesterday at work with a broomstick and I feel just about 100% today! Truly amazing! Keep up the good work!

@oskarschindler1 7 жыл бұрын
Jejejejejejejeje, éxitos y estamos a tu disposición.

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I have been dealing with bicep tendonitis for about 2 years and now also have some slight tearing in my supraspinatus; I have learned more in the last 30 minutes watching your various shoulder videos than I have from about 8 physio therapy sessions I've done locally. I have no doubt that I'll be able to really build up my rotator cuff muscles much faster as well as stabilize my scapula. You will probably save me a lot of down time and also prevent me from losing some hard won gains. Not to mention prevent the potential need of surgery long term.

Now that Im a Baseball Coach and away from Powerlifting and bodybuilding, throwing the ball and hitting balls every day has awakened a beast in my elbow and shoulder regions. I've been rock climbing for around fifteen years. I'm 53 now. Three years ago I injured the supraspinatus or the tendon I'm not sure which, but I still have the problem to some degree. My normal routine involves between twelve and thirty boulder problems twice a week at the climbing gym and a day on rock in the outdoors once a week. I've been living with it, having given up on physio, supplements and waiting it out. Today I managed to injure the right shoulder, exactly the same injury with the pain presenting on the front of the humerus. After watching these videos this is the first time I've really understood the problem and my posture which is bad due to multiple collarbone breaks and spinal injury is very poor. I'm going to concentrate on my posture and try these exercises. I'm feeling positive and surely hope that they will bring relief. Thank you.
