After playing OSRS and enjoying the hell out of it, I thought it would be a good idea to try the newer RuneScape experience. It's not bad. I can see myself putting more time into it, but it's somehow a less satisfying introduction than Old School.

Damn that 'busywork'. And I agree about stories in tutorials. Either do story, but make it meaningful and linked in some way to what comes later, or, just keep it to game mechanics. Enjoying the series, Pete

If you’re comparing osrs with 2013 rs3, I would agree. Modern day RS3 is a way more thought out game than you would think. End game rs3 is so much more engaging than end game osrs. The skill ceiling for pvm is absurdly high to the point where if you were to buy max gear with bonds, you still would never get a successful kill on an end game boss unless you spent an absurd time really learning.

RS3 definitely has a steep learning curve and it's easy to get overwhelmed, but if you can get through that then it's a good game with a lot to do. That said, I would be interested to see you give Star Wars: The Old Republic a try.

Also I found it very interesting you commented on the lack of a poll box even; I think a little look into the history of OSRS will be your reason. One of the key things about it is that players could vote on the content they do and do not want (usually), since the Evolution of Combat update wasn't something they asked players about and was just released. The idea of polls was for situations like this, so people could vote on what they do and don't want in the game. The only downside... this makes new content super slow a lot of the time haha!
@PeteSmells
@PeteSmells 2 жыл бұрын
That is rather interesting. Not every game is brave enough to poll it's playerbase like that. I can see how it would slow down development as there will always be a crowd that doesn't want any change. Thanks for checking the video out!

Rs3 is so janky man. In my opinion best experienced as an ironman even for new players as this limits your exposure to the ingame purchases. BTW for the the ore box you just click the box itself once when your inventory is full. osrs has some genuinely impactful stories within its quests and im assuming rs3 does too. Its certainly more visually impressive at times though there are really old janky cinematics littered throughout the game that really take you out of it. The runescape 3 dev team would probably get alot out of watching this video tbh as you've really highlighted the frustrating parts of its tutorials.

This game definitely does not teach thing as well as OS yeah but I do enjoy it too. If you want MMO suggestions and have played Pokemon I know of a bunch of fun fan MMOs! PokeMMO sticks close to the originals but with some MMO elements mixed in and more challenging story and events PokeOne has up to 3 player co-op for the whole game, 3D graphics, tons of custom systems and some new NPCs/Dialogue Pokemon MMO 3D is made in unreal engine so has fancy graphics, is open world, has more traditional real time MMO combat instead of turn based

@@PeteSmells Sweet. the one thing you gotta keep in mind with FFXIV is that it's very story-based progression. So you will unlock many cool new features as you progress the main quest, but many cool features and end game raiding will be unavailable until you're through all the expansions which takes a loooong time. So maybe not ideal for your video format, but trust me when I say if you like the game, you'll love it more and more the further you get.

Idgaf what anyone in the comments has already said, but A Friend made an account years ago that got banned when the rest of his accounts did and that account was the fastest account to max going by ingame time and it was done entirely through the treasure hunter p2w minigame. That fact something like that is possible is just ridiculous and detracts from the game as a whole.
@HashTheGrappler
@HashTheGrappler 2 жыл бұрын
yeah it cost him over 14000$. Nobody would actually do that except for a content creator generating clout. You can entirely ignore mtx and play the game. It’s by no means forced. You need to understand that the focus of rs3 is the pvm, not training up your skills. If you want an extra challenge, do ironman and be forced to do everything yourself. The game is huge and packed with content. Even the lore developed significantly. I used to be an osrs-only til about 2 years ago, tried rs3 and it’s actually really fun and challenging in its own way. MTX is an option if you cba to get levels, but ironmen are locked out of mtx.

Yeah, the (very) handholdy janky tutorial might be the worst part of the game, sadly. Kinda hate how the toolbelt is so badly explained in the tutorial (why you don't need tools) The mining and smithing was changed because the osrs way is just terrible and useless for most of the levels. I agree that ironman mode is much much better than main account in this version. Lumbridge will come soon. Examine the corpse! The heating might be slightly less satisfying for early game, but is much much much better for how smithing works later Ore box: if you add it to an ability bar it doesn't interrupt you, and you really only click once every 27 ore. In osrs, to train mining, you mine iron (1 click per iron) and drop it (another click or 2) rinse and repeat, from level 15 to 99. Oh god, the combat tutorial... it's so bad and does not show how good it can become, at all. The game starts to get going (imo) after you start doing some quests (especially rune mysteries, or diamond in the rough) So yeah, you're almost through the worst parts of the game. (Btw, you can disable guide mode, removing the handholdy crappy tutorials, by going through the very... in depth settings --> interfaces --> information windows --> guidance system hints) Another thing the game does badly is the mixing of the story. In the early game, you can see stuff that is only there because of very late events and should not be possible. You can reduce this (if you care) by ordering quests in timeline order.

This is as useful as it is long. Thank you for the feedback! I will definitely check out the quests as I've heard they're pretty darn good.
@nickman287
@nickman287 2 жыл бұрын
@@PeteSmells a good portion of the community hates them. I love them, they're what makes runescape different from other mmos; here, each is a self contained story. There are quests all around you, you work on your skills to be able to do them, and barely any are fetch quests (except when they take the piss at fetch quests). The "10 bear asses" quests are almost inexistent. They can be a bit frustrating at times when you miss the crucial detail, but overall, are a good experience.

A few of the things in this video left me feeling like you were being unfair towards the game though I'll just write it off as you not actually having any experience with the game. Also, yeah the tutorial sucks. It's been the same tutorial since like 2015 that you did so it's really outdated. As for story RS3 blows oldschool out of the water by leagues but it takes a little bit of exploring to get there. Also the combat system you are using is revolution, its pretty much a crutch for new players. You can switch to manual, and that makes the combat much more customizable and fun.
@PeteSmells
@PeteSmells 2 жыл бұрын
That's cool about the combat customisation! I didn't mean to be unfair at all. It was just first impressions. The game is by no means bad, it just didn't make as good of a first impression that old school did. That won't stop me playing though. Thanks for getting back to me!

Well, once you're at the endgame, you've played at least 50 days in game if super efficient. I'd say that's a good amount of time in a single game. Tldr, the osrs new player experience is better* What he hasn't found out yet: -skills can be trained in various ways, not just the efficient way from osrs -you don't start walking every minute because you don't have stamina potions with you -skills are useful all the way to 99, even firemaking (kinda) -the continuation of some questlines are really good -after some time, if you put some effort into it, the combat system becomes a complex thing with high skill ceiling, but can still be enjoyed casually. -the goal based progression gaming loop is still there and still the same. - the game doesn't waste your time because you forgot to bring a tinderbox and you have to walk back to a bank for this trivial object (toolbelt is very badly explained though)
@foxroafrox
@foxroafrox 2 жыл бұрын
Let's be honest the only thing that is better in OSRS is the learning curve cuz it takes less time to get into the game and PVP and that is because of the old combat system since the new one changes the feel and is not balanced around pvp. The PVE and Skilling Aspect is far more detailed and visual pleasing in RS3 than in OSRS. Also if you play more than one game and you are a normal working adult you wouldn't have the time for OSRS anyway if you want to feel progression. People who say OSRS>RS3 are just downright delusional. The only thing you could say is that " i enjoy the old combat system more" and that would just mean you like a completly different game more. The Ingame-Shop is only a negative aspect if you want to be competetive and compare yourself to everyone in sight which is completly irrelevant since the game is too old for you to start and compete with others.. so just compare yourself to other f2p's or just enjoy the game and play with friends. And i am saying that as someone who played the game since 2007. If i had a PVP account i would be playing OSRS as a 2nd game tho but that will never happen since having a Main PVP account takes fkn ages and for others you would have to create a new account and level it up to something specific and lock yourself there or make a different one out of it later down the line, which you could argue is a bad system for casual players (and casual players are always in the majority in any game)
