If running puts you in a caloric deficit, then you'll lose weight. Anytime you lose fat mass, lean body mass may be lost with it. Best way to counter it is lift heavy, eat high protein, sleep well. This goes for caloric deficits from changing diet as well, not just from running. If you want to run without losing weight, make sure you bump up calorie intake. If you do that, you won't lose mass. Strength could still be diminished however because doing lots of cardio can be exhausting and impact your lifting sessions. Lower intensity cardio like walking to increase the amount of steps you take per day from 10k to 20k might be a better option as it's less taxing than burning the equivalent amount of calories from HIIT for example.

I agree with almost everything but one thing. Let’s take two people for example; one of them only lifts weights (1) and the other lifts weights and runs (2). Now prevented that 2 doesn’t run as a long distance runner but only trains his cardiovascular system, who do you think will have a greater response to weight lifting? Paradoxically it will be 2; that’s because by training cardio his VO2 max will increase thus increasing the oxygenation of the cells and therefore increasing the recovery capacity. This means that 2 will recover faster and his fibers will be more reactive and even stronger (because there’s more oxygen in the body)

basically increase calories on heavy running days, keep the protein high every day, auto regulate strength training based on how you feel.

I start jogging for 2month and i noticed that my calf got smaller. I admit that jogging make my mood better and improve stamina. But bro my leg got smaller 😢. I stopped jogging after i notice that change. I prefer aesthetic more than performance

🧢 I'm chiseled and run 22+ miles week (sometimes fast). 4miles=26:30 at 40 years old. Who cares about losing miniscule gains when your heart and lungs are more important. Army 💪

I'd say it depends. Running can be great, sure. But it also can make you lose your muscular size, if you do too much, too fast, too soon. Then again, if you're not too concern with being as big as peak Dorian Yates, then run for your own sake

He keeps his protein level as high as if he was trying to gain size, eats at a significant surplus, and adjusts his resistance training to a maintenance level instead of trying to push to progressively overload. He does that to manage recovery properly. Basically, pick one to get better at and stay at maintenance for the other. If you want to get better at running, focus on maintaining performance at resistance training, and vice versa. Don't try to push both at the same time because you'll probably outstrip your ability to recover.
