This video was speaks to me on so many levels. I've dropped 227 pounds so far (started at 525 pounds, just broke below 300 this week, weight this morning was 298) and sobered up (about 18 months). I have started running a little bit on my walks, longest run so far was about 3/8 mile, as I keep dropping weight I will add distance. I also recently started getting more serious with my music, played my first sober open mic few weeks ago (also first time singing in front of a crowd), and have two more coming up next month.

That’s a great quote which is applicable to so many things in life. The great focus on the journey while the mediocre only focus on the end result.

My dad is 74 and got 2nd place in his age group at a local 8k, I was so proud. that is the kind of longevity and sustainable fitness Im going to strive for. it’s hard to have such different goals nobody understands so you do it alone but that’s okay. Because someday like you said you’ll be the outlier. shaking your head at the fat men with back pain that always had something to say when they were younger

Great video, love seeing a big guy like me running. Sad thing is ive been doing it for 15+ years and still stink…haha. Also you dont have to keep doing something till you love/like it. Some things you never wnjoy, me personally i do it cause its hard and never gotten easier no matter how slow i run, the rest days i take, cross training i do, self massages from the roller to the gun its still hard…but i still do it cause its hard. Keep it up though, im looking to do another half and full marathon myself.

Go You! You Got This !!! I ran the Disney Marathon 3x’s, this brings back memories. I recently tore my meniscus in both knees, I’m hoping I can run again. I miss it so much! Hey you should video during race day. Good luck & most of all, have FuN! 👊🏼👍🏼🏃🏻‍♂️💨😅

I tore my meniscus on both knees during a 100+ mile hike in the arctic cycle. I’m now getting into running after a year of rehab and just managed my first (slow) 10k. Stay focused and consistent with your rehab and you’ll be fine 🎉 wish you well in your recovery!

@@jacktyler5241 did you have surgery to clean up your meniscus?

@@lauramilks8312 none at all, but my tears may not be as bad. I followed Ben Patrick’s “knees over toes” exercises. Whilst I get occasional pain, I’d say my knees are stronger than ever.

Thank You Mark for every advice you give us about your running. I have been strength training for 8 months and have lost 80 pounds. I'm your physique and was a little afraid of running; but thanks to you I bought Nike Air zoom, they are amazing for man my size, i also like your method running with propulsers, dont have them but I pretend to run with them:)

Mark's running Boston in his condition is the same as a 120 lb champion marathoner entering a National Olympic lifting qualifying meet with 1 year of training. Absurd

If running faster than 16-18 minutes per mile for 40 year old mark is going to "hurt" him, after 2 years of training, then he has no business running Boston. Period.

Mark ran 16 miles in over 4 hours on a flat course, which means he will easily take over 6 hours to run 26 miles. He has no business running Boston as his first marathon! He's taking a capable person's spot! 😮
