Heightened Russia-Armenia tensions once again came to the fore as Moscow accused Yerevan of pushing bilateral ties to the brink. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on March 27 said the “current situation regarding Armenia does not inspire optimism.” Lavrov accused the Armenian leadership of trying to “rupture” increasingly strained ties between the two ex-Soviet countries.
The Russian diplomat also said that the EU Mission in Armenia is gradually becoming a NATO mission.

"Protect"? Armenia won the war and, besides Artsakh, they took 50 km of the Azer territory. For 20 years, they never negotiated a status solution for this ancient Armenian enclave. So, as it turned out to be a territorial matter instead of cultural autonomy, Azers decided to take it back. What could Russia do, Armenia has no basis for the 50km space between itself and Artsakh.

Pashanian did everything to break relations with Russia. When the first attack occurred he was already tied with France. The second time, he contacted Macron directly. Russia should have handled Armenia in a way to persuade them to negotiate autonomy for Artsakh and give back Azerbaijan its territory. That's all Russia could do, before the coup that brought Pashanian to power.

Azerbaijan saw how weak Russia is since day 1 of Putin's disastrous invasion of Ukraine. I believe if Putin never had invaded Ukraine unprovoked for the 2nd time in 2022, Azerbaijan wouldn't have attacked and librated their occupied territory from Armenia.

What do you want Russia to do? Pashinyan already declared NK as part of Azerbaijan, and we know why he did it- to qualify his country for EU/ NATO membership outside that territorial dispute. But it backfired! Now he wants Russia to fight Azerbaijan who has been wise not to escalate their war beyond the contested areas to avoid drawing in Russia. I'd say Pashinyan is a victim of his own politics, and is digging himself deeper in a grave he's already sitting in.

@@user-yi8rt5zq9eduring September 2022 Azerbaijan launched a large attack on Armenia's internationally recognized borders. Azerbaijan used heavy artillery,drones and a lot of infantry incursions. Armenia called for help from Russia and the CSTO, but nobody even lifted a finger for Armenia. And then when Azerbaijan blockaded the NK region Russian "peacekeepers" did absolutely nothing, no pressure was put on Azerbaijan. And then when Azerbaijan launched their last attack to take over NK the Russian "peacekeepers" just watched and left. Russia betrayed Armenia, and I think it's best for Armenia to look for better relations with other countries that actually keep peace.

If it joins NATO azeri will also join it. Remember Azerbaijan has more economic value to EU than Armenia. Therefore EU needs Azerbaijan so much. Secondly Azerbaijan is a friend to a NATO member turkey and ally Israel. Don't think they leave him. Its better for Armenia to sit with Azerbaijan and negotiate for peace on equal terms.

Armenian arguments is simple, while Russia never recognised South Ossetia and Abkhazia their soldiers were protecting this two separatist territory from Georgia, so why not Russia doing the same to Artsakh. But Armenia missed the point that South Ossetia and Abkhazia was part of Russia's interest while Artsakh was not. Armenia joined CSTO in hope this alliances will protect their interest in Artsakh or internationally known as Nagorno-Karabakh. Russia indeed protect Armenia interest during the times of Pashinyan's predecessor, but Pashinyan himself want his country out of Russian influences and start leaning himself toward the The West, and now he openly unmasked his face.

The CTSO failed to support Arminia and did not deliver on the peace guarantees given. Every state faced with aggression from a more powerful neighbor will seek protection. CTSO failures to live up to the guarantees made has forced Arminia to seek alliances elsewhere. It is understandable why Russia turned its back on Arminia is favor of concessions to Turkey, gaining concessions from Turkey in their current situation in Ukraine. Russia has damaged its standing with other CTSO member states by not fulfilling guarantees.

Let's be real here. Armenia will NEVER get into NATO as a member as long as Türkiye is part of it. Both Armenia and Turkey do not have diplomatic relations. Azerbaijan also occupies 83 square miles of Armenian territory. Under the NATO charter, a country that has a territorial dispute with another country can't join and all members should agree on application.

Basically Russia betrayed Armenia because it was too caught up in the war on Ukraine, and didn't have all the resources to help, and the resources that it did have, went to another place. Armenia obviously felt betrayed because it was in CSTO before, which means Russia actually SHOULD'VE done something, anything to stop the violence, but didn't. They don't trust Russia anymore because of that, and rightfully so. It would be like NATO saying "Welcome to the alliance!" then war happens and they say "you're on your own!" That's basically the short version of what happened in the wars, but there's much more than just that.

Watched with horror Russia not honoring to protect Armenia and slyly helping Azerbaijan. This was a act of dishonor and cowardice. Azeri and turks now think they can twist Russias tail. Other friends of Russia will watch the outcome eagerly. Hope Russians ask Azeris to get out of NK and resettle the 100000 who have moved out.

It is Armenia that decides what is in their interests, not Russia. Whether or not drifting west is a good idea, Armenia is a sovereign nation and can chose its own path. However, being a neighbour to Russia is like having a neighbour that wants to dictate to you who you invite into your home, what you can say and generally obey. If you choose your own path Russia tends to invade to ‘liberate’ you from your own freedom, your own home. I hope Russia doesn't invade yet another neighbour.

My comment is not about opinions, but the simple fact that almost non ex-Soviet country wanted to join CSTO but NATO instead and this has only on reason.
