The story of AN-94 is very sad. In 2010 all gear for it's production was destroyed by order of IZHMASH management. Since that time AN-94 rifles go though deactivation and sold as models (800$/ piece). The main battlerifle of the Russian army is and will be AK-74M.

InTeg3R-9¹³5 NoPreferences Most of the internet-shops, which sales deactivated weapons, makes delivery through Russian post and Russian post can delivery package to any country. So its matter of your agreement with shop. However, be ready, that it will be very slow - delivering packege only through Russia takes normally 2 weeks. Also. you can ask Kalashnikov Concern (soviet IZHMASH) kalashnikov.com/en/contacts/ about deactivated AN-94 If you are very interesting there is man in russian world.guns forum forum.guns.ru/forummessage/115/1437346.html which sales deactivated experimental AN-94 of late 1980th - 1990th year's production (when Nikonov was still alive) for 95 000 RUR. Its very shame, that nobody cares about so next-gen rifle in Russia. Maybe in another country somebody will gives to AN-94 new life. In the next year (27.8.2018) expires last patent on the AN-94.

***** I think on a new non worn out barrel, the an-94 the shots are 1.5 moa of each other under 2inches at 100 meters about 5inches apart at 450 meters that makes it extremely lethal. The new 5.45 ammo with the violet neck coloring is Armour piercer champ at up to 500 meters.

I think the reason why it jammed it because like you said, it was a used gun, and may have been one of the original prototypes. Regardless I would have to say the gun will only perform at it's best in single shot or it's two shot burst fire, as that is what it was designed for. I imagine they are trying to work out the full auto kinks, so it will be more acceptable to your standard soldier in widespread use. I believe currently it is only issued to Spetnaz, and from what I understand they absolutely love it, because they are trained to only use it in burst or single shot fashion, which is this guns bread and butter. I would love to get my hands on a brand new one, and test it for myself, but the likelihood of this is impossible as Russia is still not very keen to divulging their current projects; even when it comes to simple ones like this.

If the malfunction was a stuck case, the problem with the AN-94 was most likely an issue with the extractor, and therefore not inherent to the design of the rifle or its burst mechanism -- a poorly maintained AK could've had the same issue. If anything, the added complexity simply made it difficult to clear the resulting double-feed, although a cleaning rod would be needed to drive the case out of the chamber regardless. Aside from the extraction issue, the rifle could simply benefit from easier access to the internals, such as the AK's easily removable dust cover. I've watched videos of the AN-94 being fully disassembled, and the upper handguard is latched on so tight you need a pin punch for leverage in order to remove it. Unless you plan on mounting optics on the upper handguard, (and why would you when you have an AK style side rail?) that piece doesn't need to be stable enough to hold zero and could be made to hinge open easily to aid in clearing malfunctions quickly, and it would also allow the operator to completely remove the receiver group from the reaction envelope in order to clear the most stubborn malfunctions. The AN-94 seems more complicated than it actually is simply because of its very alien mechanism. Once you thoroughly understand the principle behind the it, you realize that the rifle would potentially be quite manageable, especially with some small refinements.
@DaimothCL5 жыл бұрын
You might be right. But you may be wrong. The stress that design places on its extractor could also be an issue. The AN-94 on full auto fires its 2 shot super burst then changes tempo to fire full auto. It's a very irregular thing
@Klovaneer4 жыл бұрын
yeah but you can clear a stuck case in an AK literally under fire
@jared.p2403 жыл бұрын
I actually have a clear understanding on how the the gun actually works in 2 round burst but I have no clue on the fire control group works
@danielsherling32133 жыл бұрын
@@jared.p240 The fire control group is remarkably simple actually. The trigger works to pull down a "plate" with cuts in it for the different firing modes. The "internal receiver" has a horizontal rod that interacts with this plate. The rod is what releases the striker. What makes this simple is the fact that the rod changes its position with the mobile "internal receiver" while the trigger plate is static in the "external receiver". So if the rod moves past a point in the trigger plate where they no longer make contact, it will stop firing. Furthermore, there is no auto seer in the AN-94. The shortened bolt acts as the auto seer in hyperburst mode (because the bolt is so short the striker can't reach it due to bolt carrier being longer than the back of the bolt). The action is so fast that the striker will literally ride the bolt all the way into battery. Once the bolt is locked, the back of the bolt and firing pin finally protrudes from the back of the bolt carrier. Thus, the striker hits the firing pin the instant the gun locks.
@jared.p2403 жыл бұрын

"officers don't want to re-learn after AK"??? What a BULLSHIT. Actually, AN-94 has been forgotten because of its complicated and relatively(to AK and AEK) unreliable gun carriage system. Now its main competitor Kovrov's AEK-971(and its derivatives) is going to become the next main assault rifle of Russian army.
@DocMitchell6910 жыл бұрын
The AN-94 is not forgotten. It's still in use with Special Forces. And they won't adopt the AEK. It'll cost too much to switch and they'll probably stick with the AK-74 like they always have.

@DocMitchell6910 жыл бұрын
Are you kidding? There are a few select Spetsnaz units using AN-94s. Spetsnaz like them just fine. And I don't think the AEK will really go anywhere. It's like when the US Army was looking into a different main infantry weapon and they just switched back to the Colt M4. It'll cost too much to supply every soldier with one and they'll have to be retrained on the weapon. I'm just saying, the military usually just goes back to the cheapest option.

Just because you can't find a photo of Spetsnaz using it, doesn't mean they aren't. Do you honestly think they are going to take pictures of every single Spetsnaz unit on every single mission they go on? I only said a select few. And honestly, the AEK doesn't offer anything over the AK-74. The 74 barely has any recoil anyway, so basically the AEK is just overly complicated and worthless.

Interestingly enough, that brake was designed to mitigate report of the 5.45 round because it was damaging operator hearing and the AN 94 was designed, in essence, around the double tap with a reciprocating barrel to reduce felt recoil impulse (the recoil compensated AK 107 Series follows the same line except the gas diverted from the barrel pushes two pistons rather than one in opposite directions thereby canceling out the recoil) --- The AN 94 like the AK 12 is fundamentally more complex and not as reliable as the AK 74 which is not only the most reliable weapons and dare I say perfect assault rifle but light and accurate as well. That being said, the SRVV Jet Brake currently in Russian military service negates all recoil from the 5.45 round *and* makes it quieter to operate.

They don't want to relearn the weapon? Pfft. You're not fooling me. We all know it's because the gun is overly complex, making it a pain to make and disassemble as well as making it too expensive.

Рунил Нируин Крайне неудачный автомат, постоянно клинит, сложен в обращении, порой выпавший балансир всей ротой обратно вставляют, кроме того весьма существенная отдача. Короче такое же гумно как и пистолет Ярыгина
@antonaleshin16189 жыл бұрын
Рунил Нируин абакан клинит уж очень часто вследствии перекоса патрона из-за быстрой подачи при втором выстреле, и тут уж ничего не сделаешь, конструктивная особенность, что то идет в плюс, что то в минус

Владимир Рыжов I can't wait to move out of America for a vacation. I hate the American stereotype a lot of times. Always judging foreign people and stuff, its so old.
@markvalens96367 жыл бұрын
+Dillon C I've been all over the world, and am happy to now call America home. Don't be deceived. For every negative stereotype Americans are condemned for you'll find that other countries often have stereotypes just as bad or sometimes even worse. A LOT of Anti-Americanism is based on jealousy. Probably not going to get that much in Russia though, as their country is strong and traditionally a rival- they aren't going to have the inferiority complex you get in some countries when America is considered. But that said, I've been told by very reliable people that Russians are typically mean by American standards; very cold and callous towards one another. I don't know if it's true though. Being Ethiopian, everyone seems cold lol. But in the army in Ethiopia we did use Russian arms. But I wonder how much of that was due to costs. If we had the resources to purchase and adequately maintain M4s would we? I'm not sure. In any case the Russians have a point there.
