I would like to give a very special thank you to Ryan for his time, and patience in helping put together this episode. This is such a new approach,, that all my guests are trying to figure out the format, tech, and presentation. No doubt glitches arise, and we work together to figure things out. I can't thank him enough for all of his guidance, not just for this episode, but for my career.

Two of my favorite artists, Ryan is a beast - still can’t fathom how he does the scribble a shape and come out with awesome hair. Siya you need to get on Monday Night Draw with David Finch - all of you have been so helpful in my art education.

One thing nobody talks abut is how much support an artist needs financially. If you will do it regardless of money, it is still a factor to continue. For most artists there is no money so many have a partner who supports them with a place to live rent free, have a spouse who pays for everything or still live at home. It's a huge factor in moving forward or to get the time you need to practice or even afford art supplies.

It's a very important point. I think that subject alone warrants an episode in itself. Thanks so much!

Ryan such a cool ass person. He took me under his wing for a little bit and mentored me after I met him at Dragoncon over 10 years ago. It was awesome. He helped me with my art soooo much like he just don't know. I lost his contact info tho so Ryan if you see this. Thanks again brother!

Really enjoyed this interview and watching Ryan draw Logan. Peaceful and positive vibes from the both of you. Thanks for the updates on your projects...it has been an interesting and unique experience following along through each step of the creative process and very soon this will all culminate with a set of waves of your finished work with Lady M followed by DG followed by Neo Wonderland. Exciting times!

Geez! 108 commissions a day?!?! If a con is like 8 hours a day that's like 13.5 per hour! 4.4 minutes per drawing! Incredible 😮🤩 I'm sure Ryan can charge at least $50-$100 for a con sketch, that's pretty darn good for a days work!🤑Even at $20/drawing is more than I make at my day job in a week! Skillz to pay the bills right there. Great work Ryan. You're dedication to the craft, you definitely deserve all your success!

Regarding Drink N Draw, the original incarnation was Dan Panosian, Dave Johnson, Jeff Johnson, Autumn Rain Turkel, and a few other contributors. The first exhibition was Meltdown Comics.

@@SiyaOum when I set up the original Coaster Show at La Luz de Jesus (this was back when I was the director there), we peppered every Drink N Draw event and most of Artist's Alley with our branded coasters and eventually Drink N Draw started making their own square coasters -which is now a standard sketch card format. A few other unscrupulous galleries (namely the Portland offshoot of Nucleus) straight-up stole the Coaster Show concept -and even after being contacted and confronted with biting the concept, kept doing it. I don't think most artists who participate in their show know this. But the DnD dudes were great. They frequently had live models (from the GalleryGirlsLa) on hand to do long poses at their events, and it became a bit of a mentor event with people like Bob Layton there, who was happy to offer advice and criticism.

@@popsequentialism7213 I am sad now that I never got to do a Drink and Draw! I was invited to one during SDCC but it's so hard to get where you need to go when it's happening. Next time. That sounds like tons of fun!

The peripheral content consumption resonates with me for sure. I like listening to smarter more creative people talking about and or doing smarter more creative shit while I work, it provides my overactive subconscious a thing to be preoccupied with, allowing me to center and focus on the task at hand. In the days of disc-based content and Binge watching just meant watching the same thing on repeat until it was void of any meaningful narrative, existing as a series of discombobulated situations where in famous actor people do silly/ scary/ stupid/ sexy shit, endlessly cycling in your mind; I had a few regular screeners, the Ralph Steadman Docu. 'For No Good Reason' is killer 4 creatives, the editing and production is next level presenting the most personal and intimate perspective of any artists process that I've ever seen. The director setup a camera with a remote shutter clicker thingy, like the Sears family photo person always had, a-fixed directly above Ralphs working surface so as he flicked and spritst and dripped and scratched and scraped out his illustrations he could capture the evolution of the image. so for a year prior to the actual filming of the interview and studio he was able to record his process. so in the final edit we get to see these amazing time-lapses of his art seeming to manifest from nothing into, well a 'Steadman'. match that with a soundtrack that slapps harder than it has the right to and some super slick post-processing of a selection of his most iconic images turning them into basically little Gif. animations, like the Pope getting impaled by a crucifix with added audio to really sell the squishy thud sound of the impact. Ralph has the complete opposite personality and demeanor of the art he creates, a genuinely kind and pleasant guy, very wholesome. Oh and Johnny Derpp is there too, being all cool and edge-lordy with bracelets all up and down his arms, a ring or two on every finger, a cigarette that he seems to always be just on the verge of taking a puff of before he interrupts the limp wristed vouge pose of his hand about to place the butt to the lip with a lethargic, 'Oh, yeaah. woOow, that's just crazy man.' in that classic Johnny D vocal fry, while Ralph is describing his perspective on working with Hunter Thompson, or how he's offended by most of the images he creates. Besides the J Derpp it's flippin' fantastic; go expose your eyeballs and ear holes to some quality content, do it, do it now!

@@UncannySpider-guy616 im not talking about the inner perspective and diversity of the inner self. im talking about the title. society only accepts one or the other when you register. and its a very loose metaphor. i just used republicans and democrats because i felt like most americans understand that metaphor. being two oposing sides of democracy and being political based. thats like ninja and samurai. they are both titles and both political powered. one in open with honor and the other in shadow blending into society as a nobody for the purpose of espionage and intel gathering and assassination. i seriously doubt that the pride of a samurai would allow them to operate as a ninja. that was the point
