Excellent work, you are doing, I found you today, coming via Paul Kingsnorth's observations on the Saints. Your St Cuthbert film is superb. And so good to hear you speak with Jonathan Pageau, he is fertile soil for us explorers.

Having come from an evangelical background, I tended to view scripture like math where you plug verses together instead of having an entire mindset that is built upon by tradition in order to know how to understand scripture. It also goes for how to understand reality. Jonathan's mindset is built up by the Saints like St. Maximos, St. Ephraim the Syrian, St. Dionysius the Aeropogite (pseudo Dionysius) and other church Fathers. If you like Jonathan's stuff, I would recommend checking out the Orthodox Syriac Saints's writings.

What a blessing you were able to have Jonathan on. The discussion was beautiful. I really have to make it to England some day and take St. Cuthbert’s way. I really love this idea of a saint becoming part of a place, or, rather, a place becoming an extension of a saint. In North America, this feeling is sadly lacking, with the rare, glorious, exception.

This was a meaningful conversation on many levels, thank you! The thoughts about St Cuthbert and the landscape in which he lived are so important for teaching us how our knowledge of the saint informs the way we view the world. Would like see you make a companion film on St Anthony the Great and the desert landscape!

In province of Quebec, where I am from, a few of the oldest communities/villages still have a Church serving as a sacred hearth. In newer housing developments, or as older ones modernized, shopping malls took over this place in late 20th C. This process ( now on the wain...) was made easier in America where older buildings were more often than not made of wood and harsh climate caused irredeemable damage. Durham Cathedral, though more substantial, would also have crumbled if not for multi million pound effort to maintain its fabric. The Farne Islands are perhaps a parable of how, meaning subsists beyond building... in spite of buildings. After all, in the desert, God insisted on a tent and a mobile tabernacle. God did not want a temple of stone. That was man's idea. Now, all order of imagery is redefined by the internet. Even the notions of community and belonging are untethered from their earth anchor and morphed into cyber space. Spooky or, perhaps, an opportunity?
