Three videos in three days :) Day 10!
Second ride undersaddle! There were a few people watching in person so that's why there's some footage of me actually talking while on her in this video. She is doing great :) I can't wait to keep sharing with you guys!
I'm staying really busy with clinics and lessons now so we haven't worked every single day, especially at the next location we go to, but she's doing great. I don't know if anyone reads these but recently I've been feeling inspired to learn a lot more... after my clinics finish up in early November and this EMM finishes (no other EMMs are on the calendar from MHF currently), I may start a new horse adventure to learn more, but I'm not quite sure what yet... just incase anyone wanted to know LOL

Snooze is such a lovely mare ❤️✨ 100% would bid on this mare if I could 🥺 And your so right! Her coat, mane, tail & muscle just overall looks so good and just like an overall healthy horse! You’ve done incredible with her so far, I love watching you become closer with her everyday, watching her side step closer to you when you where holding the tack made my heart so happy. It’s amazing how much they can learn to trust when they are treated with the right mix of kindness, stern training, love, and respect. 🥺❤️✨

You have an amazing job . I truly envy your patience with the mustangs ! It's not every day u c someone put that much love n there daily routine, which of course I'm sure this is your job/career . No doubt there's a lot of people that would love to have your job, if they only knew the hours u put in ./? I love your kind and patient approach--it heals my spirit to see horses enjoying their human companionship/partnership and coming onto the work as a pleasure. I wonder whether, as her condition improves, her liveliness and willingness to come forward might not heighten, too.

As i watched you work out her reminder excercises: i thought of a TB+Qrt. Horse i had. That beautiful mare had to have a review of work out excercises before riding: for most if her life. Hahaha.. then there was never a argue when riding...her name change tells all it went from Lady Bug to Booger!

If I had a place to keep her, she would be ideal for me! I'm 66 now and would prefer a horse like her just as a good smooth ride. With arthritic knees and hips, riding a high spirited horse is out of the question for me nowadays!😉 Sam, I wonder how she would do if you rode her in a more open area? Seems like I heard the guy at the holding corral say she had been there a couple of years. So she's "grown up" in a confined area and never got to stretch her legs and really open up. I just wonder if she would be less inclined to be reminded to keep a steady gait in a more open area, know what I mean? She's definitely one of the most gentle mustangs I've ever seen! So gorgeous too!!🥰

I’m no expert, but especially for horses that get confused by what gait they should be doing, introducing verbal cues can sometimes help. Especially if a family gets her that doesn’t always use the same cues as you.

Things are going well. :) A quick comment on two things that seem peripheral, but they improve the quality of the video. Having a photographer is great, for it frustrates an audience when the subject is not centered in the frame. And I love your choice of training areas. This corral is relatively quiet and natural. That really boosts the quality of the video.

Hi Sam, I’ve been watching your videos for quite a while and they just keep getting better and better! Thank you for taking us along on your journeys. I love how you break everything down and explain it so well, its so helpful! I would love to know more about what you have in mind for the new learning experience you mention in the description. I would also love to have some personal training with you and help for my horse. Right now I’m recovering from a TBI and brain surgery due to my horse spooking and running into me. It was a completely freak set of circumstances and totally not her fault. I’ve had her for 11 years and she’s always been great. But my confidence is running low right now. I hope one day I get to attend one of your clinics or even do private lessons if you do that.

I'm so sorry about your TBI. Head injuries are really challenging. I got bucked off 14 months ago and hit my head. I am still having concussion symptoms and have not been able to ride since it happened. I hope you have a speedy recovery!

@Snubble Bubble I’m so sorry to hear about your injury too. It is hard to recover from a TBI. I’ve gone through a lot of stuff over the years including a heart attack a couple years ago and the TBI and surgery has been a whole different game. I’m starting to get back out to work with my horse just this week but its hard, physically and mentally at this point. I really hope for a full recovery for you and that you can get back to doing what you love. ❤️

Random draws. The only mustang I ever got to kind of choose was Roulette. The rest are random and usually mares because there’s more mares, usually less people adopted from the BLM compared to geldings, so we get them for EMMs

I think it’s because since she stayed at the facility so long, with many people, kind of made her calmer. She may not have been as calm when people first tried her. Just a theory, not completely sure

Some people don’t want a calm horse that’s already people-friendly, not challenging enough for them. And she’s pretty small and bay. Lots of mustangs are bay/chestnut, usually the ones that sell right away are the bigger ones and the colorful ones, people don’t necessarily always care if they are level-headed. Personally I like the “plain looking” ones that are calm, because I think in the end they are going to be the best ones to have in the long run. Too many people will buy a horse just for their color, and not realize what they’re getting themselves into because they chose color over personality.

People often have a color bias, most of the horses that go to long term pastures are bays, browns, and chestnuts. Many people prefer geldings over mares because mares are "moody and hormonal" (this is very stupid and I have met many more moody geldings than moody mares in my 18 years with horses). There are also SO MANY mustangs available for adoption, great ones get passed up all of the time partly because there simply aren't enough adopters.

Now as I recall from what you said in a previous video, I think she was born at one of the BLM facilities. Part of that "laziness" could well be due to always being confined. She doesn't know much about having to fend out in the open with a herd, in which case, she would have to be much quicker to survive. She is also not as thin as many of the mustangs in videos I've seen. Any living thing that is not physically active will get "lazy". Better this than a horse that is hell-bent on killing you! Great job you are doing with her. She is awesome!

I know exactly what you mean!! Snooze seems like the sweetest horse to own. Early on I compared her to a "velcro horse" cause she loves being close to Sam, like my "velcro dogs" do me!! ☺️ I like that in a horse!

I’d have to rewatch this video to see but usually I’m using a colt starting rope (it’s just a longer rope!) from Double Dan Horsemanship! It’s my favorite!

I have a couple questions for you🙂 When will you go back to Florida? And also, if you don’t mind me asking, how do you do you fund your trips when you’re away from work for months at a time? I’m wondering because if would love to travel like this one day, but how do you cover expenses? Also, where did you get your western saddle?😍

As soon as people stop hiring me for clinics I’ll go back to Florida. I find for my trips because I’m working non-stop. This is my job, teaching clinics and lessons on the road. I know everyone thinks I just travel and have fun, but I’m working from 6am to 9pm most days because I run my business by myself and still have to teach/do clinics and train my EMM mare on top of that. As well as spend hours editing and then responding to at least 50-100 messages a day. This is my job lol

About learniing more: A woman named Anne Soule/ owner of Foothill equestrian Center, Fiddletown ca/ is one of the most amazing & unusal horse trainers i have come across in my 63 years with horses. Even though , i have had horses all my life & taught a 5 children in 27 years riding: i went & took lessons to learn this never before seen method & way of communicating with the horse.. I took weekly lessons for a 1-1/2 year with her until the covid put a stop to them. What a incredible experience. You can find her on face book to read all her seemingly endless qualifications. Anne Soule Has mentored & worked with Tom Dorrance, Ray Hunt & lots more. You may ask why i am i writing so much about Anne Soule: she really, really teaches you to understand very deeply how communicate to the horse with your energy+ thought+ body posture+ etc. I choose lots of ground work to learn this ' extraordinary ' different ' way of working and and training horses. And it was the most incredible experiences (& hardest method to learn, haha) I have EVER had with horses. And best part: dam stuff works. Thank you , for giving your time to all these ramblings. The audio and video quality is fine for its purpose. The important part are the humane training techniques and enjoyment of the process. I value the organic nature of this and also the spur-of-the-moment ruggedness :-) . It s a much more direct form of communication IMO.

Sam I'm calling you for help there's a girl on KZfaq that is cruel and doesn't know what she's doing with these Mustang her channel is called break habits not horses please check her out. I think the horse needs to be taken away from her . That horse is a lot skinnier now than it was when she first got it and she is crazy putting a backstrap on the saddle and then trying to pull the saddle off with a back strap on and leaving the horse in a blizzard in the pouring down rain with tack on Scary My God only knows what will happen to this horse
