@@flawlesstheory5111 planetary annihilation failed to capture the soul of sup com, it is close but there is something missing. It pulled people in but didnt keep them. Sanctuary is made by people who have been keeping sup com alive for a long time now and a surprising amount of people still play sup com. I think this has the ability to draw them in and hold them.

@@flawlesstheory5111 That game was dead on arrival to most RTS fans and a lot of Sup Com fans. It had the art style of some cartoonish arcade game where your commander shot magic goo to build buildings. And it forced people to build on a free form sphere without a grid; that was such an unpleasant and unnecessary experience to so many.

That’s a lot of faith lol. Honestly grassroots marketing is the most import factor in a games success. This game will have to get streamers, content creators with large audiences, and many others involved to make itself a success.

@@Caleb-qr6lo do you know gyle? He consistantly gets 50-90k view per video and that is just the people left over from the old days of sup com, the troopers who have stuck by the game. If all of them bought this game it would be a pretty big success, but there would be quite a few content creators i know that would love sanctuary.

I once had a dream where I was playing a sci-fi RTS that was a mix between Total War and Command and Conquer, but the main catch was that it was all in VR. Thinking about it now, this game is the closest thing that matches what I experienced in my sleep.

I'm confused why they'd be on outside of it however. Or why it would stretch all the way to the pole. Some weird gravity shenanigans going on there, but maybe they have gravtech to technobabble that away.

@@Hust91Not really. The dyson sphere is actually really small, only 0.024 AU. Being so close means that sun generates actualy around 1G gravity on surface, and on the inside temperature is too hot to live. To have light on the outside Sanctuary has multiple holes spread all around it to let light out, which is then reflected back on surface by mirror satelites

@@volodymyr_budii That is an interesting take on the concept! We'd still need gravity or supermaterial shenanigans to keep the damn thing from falling into the star. Magnetic monopoles enabling a hypderdense unflexing femtotech magmatter structure, or interia fields, or graviton generation using the power from the star, maybe?

@@Hust91 It does not need gravity shenanigans. The idea of monolith dyson sphere is that there are solid oribtal rings under them, which have orbital speed and so, do not fall down. Then the shell of the sphere uses magnets to push off those rings, which works like a strong base for it. Still, it may need some structural strange sci-fi shenanigans

So much potential. I hope that this game manages to bring new concepts and quality of life changes to the formula of older games like Supreme Commander. I'm very interested in particular at the potential for environmental effects like freezing the water which is shown in this trailer, because if the environment can be modified in meaningful ways that introduces a whole new dimension to the strategy. If a more interactive environment is combined with significantly improved AI and player control over their units (like being able to set formations and orders to utilize large numbers of units more efficiently), it could really bring back this genre of games.

The game isn't gonna be released this year - release date is most likely to be around 2025-2026. In 2024 we are very likely to get a working demo together with the launch of kickstarter.

BAR is in development since around 2020 using well established Spring Engine. Zero-K using same engine, is much longer than BAR, for nearly 1.5 decade now. Zero-K and Spring engine would be far better source of expertise in RTS genre. However, Sanctuary: Shattered Sun is in development since mid 2021 and its inception is inspired by Supreme Commander and its mods. Also it is using completely different engine. Hence there is no correlation with BAR, besides sharing same aspiration, to fill gaps in RTS genre, and Total Annihilation.

Please tell me you guys understand just how monumental of an increase in surface area you are talking about when comparing the surface area earth to the surface area of what a dyson sphere like you show in the artwork. The sun itself is something like 12,000 times more surface area of earth and then enclosing the sun in a ball.....100,000 times the surface area of earth? 1,000,000 times? hope you take that into account in the lore.

you need to make sure that solar system is binary cause having sun inside is not sufficient you need to have a sun outside
