Using GPT and a random map builder I was able to create my own world for a 1-20 sandbox campaign including BBEG, minor bosses in each of the 10 countries, random encounter with loot tables for each tier of play. It did most of the work for me. I made binders of each country. Tabs for each city and town within that country that include random encounters, shops that can be found with descriptions, npcs that can be found with descriptions, quests, and random encounter tables for each tier of play. There is also a tab for random encounters outside of town with all the same stuff. So anywhere the party goes I just grab that binder and flip to the tab needed and the story never slows down. GPT makes it so easy.

No joke! I got my dm to start using it and he went from thinking it would be a year before he’d do another game to 3 months haha. So good!

@@TBLReady at 1 hour a day for 2 weeks this is what GPT and I came up with. Selune saw that beast races were being treated differently due to the wills of their creator gods or that they looked so different from other races. So she created a new continent and hid those races on it for 3,000 years. But on a new moon, Shar found the continent and revealed it causing the other gods to see this as an over reach by Selune. When the civilized races found these lands with primitive races they decided to claim some of it for themselves splitting the lands into 10 different factions with two of them being made up of different races. One country has Centaurs, Minotaurs, Leonin, Tabaxi, Lizardfolk and the other country has Orcs, Goblinkin, Kobolds and Gnolls. Each country has major, world ending, issues that the players can explore. For example, the creator gods of some of these beast races are not happy that their people were hidden from them by Selune so they are attempting to convert them back by any means necessary. One of the conquering countries is being led by a Triumvirate including a lich, a vampire and a death knight who have artifacts of Orcus and are attempting to raise an undead army to bring power to Orcus. Another country is made up of the Platinum Cadre attempting to find a home of their own to serve Bahamut, which the Church of Tiamat isn't to happy with. One country is having a civil war as a kings brother is trying to dethrone him. Another country is ran by various merchant guilds who recently had a third of their lands taken by various crime syndicates. I dont have my binders in front of me right now, but you get the picture. Big sandbox with crazy stuff going on everywhere. Plenty of small stuff to do at lower levels and the players can pick and choose what big bad to go after with various surprises along they way, like Bel offering to help the party defeat the followers of Orcus in return for Orcus' artifacts (purely to help defend Avernus from the demon hordes, of course).

Please don't prep sessions on short notice. Just be honest to your players and say you need more time to prepare.

I honestly think my party cares less about my prep work than I do. It’s also a downtime session which isn’t really worth a ton of time investment. Some dms don’t prep at all and sing every session, I can’t do that haha but different tables have different vibes.
