Saw III is by far my favorite film of the franchise. It's the most "raw", emotional, powerful, memorable and profound one in my opinion. Saw III is the entry of the franchise that has the most to offer. Not only is it a great Horror movie, but also a great Tragedy, which provokes an extraordinary catharsis. I'm genuinely impressed by what this movie manages to do. Sure, it's not particularly "subtle", but extremely effective. It's probably the most brutal film of the franchise, but also the most human one, paradoxically (which is a remarkable achievement). The term "torture porn" is inadequate to describe it, as its graphic violence is justified by the story, and echoes the mental violence the characters go through (the vengeful father, the depressed and apathetic doctor, the bedridden and dying "mastermind", the confused and psychotic "apprentice", etc...). The movie is multi-layered and adresses existential themes (grief, obsession, physical and psychological pain, affective dependency, the possibility of forgiveness, etc.) in an incredibly intense and "visceral" way (the franchise is known for showing a great interest in the human viscera 😄). The ending is emotionally devastating and culminates in multiple "mind-blowing" (pun intended 🤯😉 ) plot-twists. It would have been ok for me if the franchise ended with Saw III, as it offers the perfect conclusion to the story which began with the first Saw. The Original Saw Trilogy is particularly solid. But I'm super hyped for Saw X though!

The Rack was one of the very few traps in the Saw franchise that truly made me wince and look away . Brutal 😭😭😭

I totally get why some people don't like SAW III, and it is *wayyy* longer than it should be. But the Lyn Denlan/Jigsaw plotline is really good - the idea of just having to keep someone alive, knowing that they're a terrible person, knowing they're dying. Unrelated, but gonna recommend the movie American Mary.

Saw III holds a special place for me. It was the first film in the franchise that I saw in theaters- and would continue doing so each weekend a new film released- I enjoyed the exploration of Amanda and John's working relationship, I liked the moral dilemmas that Jeff faced in each game, the flashback setup to the bathroom game was great, and I really enjoyed seeing Eric Matthews right at the start when, not long before the film's premiere, Donnie Wahlberg had said he'd 'left' the franchise over 'creative differences.' What a way to surprise you if you thought that Eric actually might not show up!

Saw III is perhaps the one film in the franchise that my feelings are the most mixed towards. The acting (mainly among the core characters) is up there with Saw II as some of the best in the franchise, everything going on in the sickbay between John, Lynn and Amanda is super compelling, and I love the concept behind Jeff’s trial and the greater psychological element the Pig Vat in particular takes on. As much as it pains me, though, I can never quite shake my feeling of “meh” whenever I watch it. For every memorable trap there’s another one I find boring or a waste of an interesting concept, and while this perhaps makes him more human than anyone else in the franchise, Jeff is such a thoroughly frustrating protagonist it’s become difficult for me to sit through the movie knowing the decisions he makes throughout and at the end. I want to love Saw III, because there’s truly so much to love about it, but there’s also too much holding it back for me to ever consider it to be within my personal Top 3 (or maybe even Top 5) Saw movies.

I believe the head section of the rack was done by creating a prosthetic of the back of the actor’s head on his face! So he’s facing forward the whole time, the twisted neck and hair by the end are all fake. Super cool! Awesome video! 😊❤️

The nudity in the freezer room doesnt feel pervy to me, to me it is important to show that she has no protection from the elements

So, I can actually explain the Judges bullet wound! The reason the wounds are "seemingly" on the wrong is because they are the exit wounds. The exit wounds are always far larger than entry wounds. Entry wounds, especially from small buckshot or birds hot are very small and sometimes unnoticeable, but the exit wounds are always way more visible due. Watch videos on ballistic gel and it will make more sense.

Nice video, Lucy and Patrick! Love it! I like III. And, it's got a lot of replayability for me because of the interactions with the characters. What struck me this time is how John is super hypocritical with Jeff and Jeff's test. He's forcibly trying to make Jeff move on from his son's death, when John hasn't done so in the slightest. Gideon's death overhangs the entire franchise, and was the first push towards John becoming Jigsaw. CLEARLY, in multiple parts of the series, John has not come to peace with Gideon's death. Up until his death, still hasn't dealt with it, or coped with it in many negative ways. And here he is, trying to manipulate Jeff and force Jeff to move on. It's... Hypocritical, and horrible, and sad. Just sad. * Also, my favorite part of this whole video was Patrick going, "...this is going to stink, this is disgusting, I have guts up... **Gasps** DOGGIE! HELLO, PUPPY!!!" 🤣

I'd like to remind people that canonically, the trap John put Cecil in was 28 years ago. I only know this because I was born in the year of the pig that John planned for his son. Also I love to think that John chose the year of the pig for a double meaning. People born under the year of the pig are known to be loyal to family and passionate towards others, with John's background of being an engineer who wanted to help people before Cecil had his "accident" with Jill, it could be possible that he was going to have their son want to help people as well with a kind and caring nature.

Maggots were not in the pig soup, they put maggots on for the pig reveal shots, as they were rolled in.

SAW III is by far if not the best of the series

Well done as always, I love your enthusiasm (which I share) over the SAW movies. Agree didn't like the needless nudity of the ice room, not a prude, just seemed a 'cash grab' lol. The emotional arc of the characters is so well done, and I still say Amanda should have carried on (if she played by the rules...)

The rack the actor is kneeling, his head is a free motion and to do the part where they spun his head around they made a latex mask that looked like the back of his head

I find it hard to believe they would make that continuity error about which leg was in the shackle just because in this very movie John specifically said “put his left leg in the shackle” yet when he is shown it’s on the right leg I don’t believe that’s a legitimate error.

So fun fact: I had actually watched the Saw movies out of order growing up. I watched Saw, Saw 2 and then 4 and 5, and 6. Even 7. But Saw 3 was one I hadn't watched and then it came on one night, so I finally watched it. And it's funny cause for a few years the only part I remembered about it was the pig guts. It's what I paired the movie with. Saw 3 was just this massive mystery to me. Then I fknally bought the movies and I've binged them so many times. 🤣 time to binge them before Saw X.

I don’t remember if it was this movie or another, but the bathroom set from Scary Movie 4 was actually used as the Saw bathroom in one of the sequels.

The thing with the Freezer Room is originally Danica was going to be clothed. But, the worry was that as she was sprayed with the cold water, the clothing would stick and “become too sexual,” so it was changed to how we know it today.

Instead of smashing his foot, Detective Matthews could have scraped his malleolus and heel against a rough floor surface in order to free himself from the shackle and still be able to walk. What do you guys think?

I agree about Jeff to an extent but it really wouldn't of mattered cause his character arc would of been for nothing because he chooses revenge instead of forgiveness anyways when he kills jigsaw.

Yeah, the nudity in Saw 3 was really strange because she's gonna die regardless if she's wearing clothes or not. Even if there were dudes in traps that were stripped down, they still got to keep their underwear on.

I really enjoy Saw III, it’s just they Jeff makes it so frustrating because of his lack of urgency to do anything. But that also makes it really funny. Imagine finding out you’re in an elaborate jigsaw trap, but your reaction the whole time is basically, “whatever, I’ll move as slow as I possibly can.” 😂

I love Saw III so much. Not for any movie reasons like plot or whatever. It’s that one line where Amanda Young says “Are you gonna behave?”. Bruh when I first saw that my heart went like:❤️🌈🥺. Amanda Young was my first real gay crush and she is ICONIC!

I never understood the point of having Jeff waking up in a box hoisted high up on a forklift. He could have easily have broken several bones, or even killed if he landed wrong. This never made sense to me. Having the box (or crate, if you prefer) just sitting on the floor would have worked better

I’m glad someone else agrees with the unnecessary aspects of nudity in most horror movies! Especially when you look at the pornographer to horror movie pipeline….it feels that there is a lot of sexual violence without traditional sexual violence.

Saw 3 was the last one I really enjoyed. Saw 6 was ok but 4,5 and 3-D I don't like. Haven't seen Jigsaw or Spiral cause 3-D just really disappointed me. Maybe I'll check them out since X looks interesting

Major same re: the freezer trap, Patrick. That one always made me really uncomfortable due to the nudity. It just feels like sexualizing female suffering, which is disgusting. Also, major bummer to find out that they used real maggots in the pig vat trap. That’s animal cruelty :( and extremely gross for the actor 😩😩😩

I have the most mixed feelings towards saw 3. I actually like the flashbacks/soap opera of saw. It makes you think and piece things together instead of just consuming and moving on with your day. However, I hate how this movie was, in my opinion, the start of the movies just becoming mean. Detective Carrie had no chance and was just brutally murdered, as was the freezer woman, as was the drunk driver in the rack. The movie is so mean, the judge had to die regardless of surviving his unfair trap and poor Lynn Denlon gets brutalized after winning her game. I understand it solidifies John as the massive hypocrite that he is but it’s just so dim and miserable. Still one of the better movies despite all of it

Saw III is pretty low on my list. May not be at the bottom because of Saw 3D, but it's in the bottom two. Part of that is due to Jeff (obviously), but the other part is that it starts the trend of hypocrisy. John would always go on about "the will to live", but that was thrown out the window here. All the people in traps had to rely on Jeff to save them. Well, guess that is unless this movie was made to show how big of a hypocrite John was, and given all the support he gets throughout the series, I don't see that being the case. Oh and how the hell does Amanda's hair grow that long in just 6 months!? That has always bugged me.

I’ll be first to say I don’t like saw 3 in fact it’s my second least favorite. Jeff as one of main protagonists is just annoying to watch, seeing how slow he is to react. Sure it has The rack trap which is great, and lyn could’ve made this movie better if she were the only protagonist but it runs too long, and like I said it’s mostly Jeff’s fault this is hard to watch.

I adore Saw3. Perhaps cuz there's a lot of Amanda. I relate 2her much, n love the unfortunate unraveling of her psyche. As a vegan/LGBTQ+ activist, i ve seen enough 2have a hatred of humans. I get it, id love a way 2 improve people. But im not cool w/the targeting of drug users. Its a complicated thing that takes time. I gradualy got off opioids myself .Tossing me in a trap would have me more fucked up, pushing me 2use even more! The people in Saw x deserve a trap it seems.
