Saya no Uta.
A horror visual novel masterpiece, renowned for being an utterly repulsive and traumatizing piece of work. Watch as a crippled man descends into madness and see vile acts he does, all for the sake of his love. A cute anime girl x horrific eldritch abomination beyond your worse fears.
This is a story about committing to madness and rejecting your own humanity, as Saya no Uta places you into the eyes of this man.
And yet despite the unspeakable horrors, this visual novel can be seen as a tragic love story.

Saya No Uta is about how we're hopelesly and utterly under the influence of our 5 senses. Sight, smell, touch, taste, sound; it all dictates how we live. It doesn't matter what is actual reality, what matters is what your brain is telling you

Song of Saya managed to do something that few games' stories have done: It legitimately shocked me. All while making me feel sorry for characters who would've otherwise been the villains.

@@Vecchio_Rhosod85 Not really, giving them motive and sympathy by showing us their perspective isn't that hard for writers and they do that all the time, I think you are just comparing them to characters who are meant to be just be just villain's for the story presented. Saya no Uta is meant to be "us vs the world(humanity) tragic romance," not every story is trying to make us sympathize with those who are morally on the wrong side from our perspective anyway, if the author really wanted to do such a thing, they would.

I recently played this game for the first time. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The opening scene of the loud noise and garbled text made my dumb ass think for a moment that the game file I downloaded was corrupted or something before quickly realizing “oh this is just all part of this VN’s aesthetics.”

2:05- Fun fact, this game was arguably the first work I've seen from Gen Urobuchi... needless to say, I then fully understood why he is nicknamed "Urobutcher". Not that I'm complaining, his works are phenomenal, but damn was this a hell of a first introduction.

Saya no Uta was one of the first visual novels i played. maybe it's because I was not in a very good mental state at the time of reading, but this visual novel really touched me. I felt deeply connected to Saya and Fuminori's relationship and the loneliness that they both felt. and by the end of the "saya" ending, I was sorta thinking to myself "never have I experienced a piece of media that made me feel so loved." Also the OST is so so good I like to go back and listen to it every once in a while, with Sabbath being one of my favourites. I wish I had read the VN earlier, in time for the re-release of Saya's scale figure

I only recently played played this, years after I played Katawa Shoujo and DDLC as my first VNs, and while i wasn’t as disgusted as I thought I’d be, I loved how concise and atmospheric it was. It lead me to collect even more VN titles and now I have about 20 on my to-read list while I go through Kara no Shoujo. Kinda wish I fell down the rabbit hole much earlier tho lol Great editing and synopsis btw! I wish more people read and talked about VNs here. Ur doing god’s work

@juno_illust
@juno_illust Жыл бұрын
@@pplwhoknow9948 sure! A lot of these are gonna be eroges btw. Idk if there are non-H versions of these, but either way: Since you’re looking for a VN with lots of choices, I recommend Kara no Shoujo, since it’s also the only one here so far I’ve actually completed. It’s a detective/murdr mystery story and the piecing of clues together actually involves quite a bit of thinking lol. It’s kind of notoriously difficult to get the true ending without a guide tho, so I recommend playing towards a normal end on ur own, then use a guide for true ending. Also, it’s a trilogy, with KnS3 not having translations yet. Both KnS 1&2 have remastered versions as well, having different voice actors, higher resolution, and bits of extra story and CGs. For the ones I haven’t read/am still reading, in no particular order: 1. Quartett! - romance VN revolving music. Has a unique comic-like presentation. Can play with voice acting, but the auto function is kinda janky. 2. Yume Miru Kusuri - tackles fairly dark but realistic themes such as bullying, drugs, and relationship problems. 3. Symphonic Rain - don’t know much about this, but saw good reviews 4. ATRI-My Dear Memories - I only just started this. So far, seems like a wholesome story in a post-apocalyptic setting. Has very high quality visuals for a VN. 5. Subarashiki Hibi (aka SubaHibi) - a so called Denpa game. Lots of meta narratives akin to DDLC. Bound to mess with your head. Be warned lol. 6. Kimi to Kanojo to Kanojo no Koi (aka Totono or You and Me and Her) - also considered a Denpa game, also bound to mess with your head. Both this and subahibi require a substantial knowledge of the culture surrounding VNs and otaku culture in general for you to really appreciate them. Save these for much later if ever. 7. Planetarian - a short but classic VN by Key, a studio considered to be a pillar of VNs, known for tearjerkers. If you like crying, this is for u. 8. Utawarerumono - don’t know much about it but heard nothing but good stuff. Has a solid strategic RPG game woven with its story. The rest are Yuri VNs, if you’re into that too hehe 9. Flowers series (le volume sur Printemps, Ete, Automne, and Hiver) - I’m just about to finish the first one. It’s pretty good, and supposedly it only gets better. The yuri portrayal here is delicate and focuses a lot about the anxieties around such relationships. My kind of yuri lol. The riddles/mystery aspects are kinda eh/bs tho, at least in the first one. 10. SeaBed - idk yet. But saw lots of good reviews. 11. Kindred Spirits on the Roof - same as above. Has a remastered version with voice acting. 12. Nurse Love Addiction & Syndrome - a duology. Idk yet other than it’s about actual nurses lol. 13. Maggot Baits - not yuri. Incredibly messed up. I’m saving this for when I feel particularly morbidly curious. Gotta muster up the courage for it too lol. Aaand that’s it for now. Also note: I tried avoiding the more mainstream VNs, such as Stein;Gate, Ace Attorney, and Danganronpa, when thinking up of this list. Mostly because I either already saw their anime, or already have a good idea what they’re about, and wanted a fresher, bit more obscured experience. Would like to mention DDLC and Katawa Shoujo too, my very first VNs, as it is too for many others. Highly recommend to play these if u haven’t yet. Hope u get some ideas what to go with from this list! Have fun reading/discovering more about VNs! ^^

I played a month ago. I watched Madoka Magica a couple of years ago so when I heard he was the creator of Saya no Uta, I was so excited to read it. I may dislike Fuminori for what happened but I understand and sympathize with him. I don't think anyone could say they wouldn't do this if they didn't feel his overwhelming sense of loneliness. Especially after going through losing his family and everything looks like hell. I also really enjoyed Saya's character. She is a stranger in a strange land who is human in consciousness but her biology rejects her yearning for intimacy. The worst thing to happen to her was learning how to be human. She learned about love and what that may look like. It is hard not to love her and want the best for her. I also loved Ryoko and Kouji and how they represented humanity as being strong and preservering. They make both sides seem like tragic monsters. I am really happy that it was my first visual novel. The soundtrack is amazing too.

It's not meant to horrify in the first place, as a psychological horror it does its job perfectly: creating a neverending sense of dread that will never be resolved and a disconnect between what you know and what you see to send readers spiralling down theoretical insanity

Loved watching a playthrough of saya no uta. Found myself completely siding with the main character and saya, despite realizing what she most likely was almost right after seeing her. In a world where green and red is flipped, she could not possibly be green, if you get what I mean. I shudder to think what one of their sex scenes would look like in the normal world, but I know what truly matters is ones own perception of the world.

@@Rickgomes71 Spoilers below, obviously It's that scene where the neighbor tries to rape Saya after she gives him the same brain condition as Fuminori. He basically went from normal to being perfectly fine with raping someone within what must've been an hour or less, and it makes him look like he was just subconsciously waiting for shit to go down before he'd turn into a monster. At least with him killing his family he didn't recognize them and thought they were weird flesh monsters coming after him, so it at least made sense why he did it.

Why is everyone always so awkward about sex scenes in fiction? It's a part of the human experience like anything else, and can be used in storytelling like anything else. As long as it's done well, suits the characters, makes sense in the narrative, sure - but that goes for anything, so.

Its overrated simply by the soundtrack, visuals, and a great hook. Its has major problems as a story imo, barely any character development in any other character besides the mains, its hard to care for anyone when they are just cardboard cutouts to further the plot, and the ending was rushed beyond belief and could have literally happen the same way at any point in the story, it wasn't led to it, it "just happened." It had great potential tbh, this could have easily been a 40+ hour VN where they thoroughly build up the world and characters. Like show the childhood of the mc and his best friend so their friendship is actually believable to make their conflict that much more impactful. Expand upon the back story of Ryouko and Ogai, we never learn why Ryouko wanted to kill him, or even their relationship to begin with. Give Ogai more character and expand upon his relationship with Saya and how she views him, showing Saya's perspective wouldn't hurt things either, like what are her first thoughts in the world, how did she meet Ogai, so on and so forth, these are simply things that makes longer visual novels. It would have been more impactful if they showed Saya's true form in shocking reveal instead of just someone's reaction to her, "but not knowing what she looks likes adds too..." sure but a reveal at the end wouldn't hurt. There is nothing short or concise about the story, it just ended out of nowhere, I'm tired of seeing people say that's good writing. It's like they didn't have the budget or the time to continue so they had to wrap things up. Its sucks that it wasn't given proper treatment cause it had a good premise and could have been great. You can like it for what it is but I think its important to not just ignore its glaring flaws. 7.5/10 for me, good not great. People might get mad by this buts its honestly just my opinion and don't just want to be in an echo chamber.

All I'm going to say is I definitely did NOT empathize with Fuminori. Also he's the perfect example of a humongous simp. So I honestly really did not like saya no Uta. Both Fuminori and Saya actions were NOT justified for me. And like you said, the worst H scene in is the worst scene in the visual model, and it just never got better. I know Nitro+ is supposed to be purposefully edgy, but I just think that given how short this visual novels, I can't really care for the two especially with how immoral their actions were. It says something when I thought the female doctor was easily the best character cuz I just wanted the main 2 characters to die. Saya sadly is probably my least favorite visual novel, or my least favorite that people actually know.
