This is why I use the thick PVC anti-tarnish baggies for my personal collection, more space efficient and have never had one go flying

Baggies can certainly be a good solution for some uses. A bit tough to get a nice pattern laid out if you have multiple stones eh?

A few days ago I was about to examine a blue sapphire I had just received. I was using a cloth to polish it and suddenly the stone went FWOOP! like a bar of soap and landed on a cement floor. After my heart rate settled down I retrieved and examined it but found no obvious damage that I could swear wasn't already present. 😕

Very useful tips, thank you 😊 I once went into a jewellery store asking if they would certified my 5ct grandidierite (not a fancy one). The guy dropped the stone as he open the box, while standing. I couldn't believe his lack of professionalism!

That is startling indeed. It also goes to show that not everyone in a shop is created equal eh? I suppose thats similar logic to why it's illegal in some places to wear a police uniform if you aren't one.

Hello, Peter! Great to see a new video from you. ❤ Good advice. I always open my own gem boxes, and have the dealer open their own. The first time a jeweler opened one of mine, it popped out of the box and we had a devil of a time finding it. I learned my lesson long ago! Great video, my friend. 👍

Good show, some use a round container

Thank you ~ and yes, I have a few round ones myself. I approach them basically the same way by inverting the container, but its convenient to be able to twist the base on those, certainly. That said, they don't snug down into the boxes where you store larger collections very well. I like efficient packages.

At the very beginning, Were those orange sapphire? Spessartite? I like the color a lot.

The poor gems that were wilfully dashed across the floor were actually CZ that I use for practicing stone setting XD I try not to be so haphazard with natural stones. That said, you could get that colour out of either of the stones you mentioned.

@@GemologyforSchmucks I would absolutely be interested in some Spess Melee. Or even 3.5mm. An infinity ring with spessartite and peridot rounds would be LOUD.
