It seems like every episode I am just dumbfounded by the carbon fiber work you do. Other youtubers seem to put a ton of effort into their work and it comes out between "meh" and "it'll work". You make custom molds and one-off parts look like something that wouldn't be out of place on a Koenigsegg. Fantastic.

Most people “I’ll add a parachute but if I ever use it then the plane will be likely be totaled.” Mike “I’ll add a parachute and do it so well that I can stay in the plane and fly it out of there the next day. Then I’ll test fire a chute just to make sure it actually works like I planned it.” Mike you are a cut above buddy! Love these videos.

Don't forget that this is a carbon fiber plane. Meaning the strength per cubic measuring value of your choice VS the standard variant (ignoring all the bells and whistles) is off the charts. You could probably bend a cub in half if you snapped those lines strong enough in a fall, where as the carbon fiber might bend, might even stress, but i doubt there can be forces involved that can deform the super structure short of a full dive, but then parachutes or not, you'd have a bad day. If all things were square and equal, this is how all planes should be built. Mike is fortunate enough to be able to do it, and who knows, things he learns and shares, will maybe trickle down to everyone else.

The problem is the softer you want the plane to land on the chute, the heavier and larger the chute would have be. He could experiment with airbags in the belly of the plane to save it i suppose.

Mike, I came across your KZfaq channel sometime ago and instantly I was hooked. I am a 64 year old man who always wanted to learn to fly. Unfortunately, making a living and raising a family got in the way. Then, at an age when I might invest the time and money to get my private pilot certification, I learned I had cancer, was treated for it and survived. One of the side effects of my treatment, however, is peripheral neuropathy (severe nerve pain) that requires use of narcotic pain medication to treat. That precludes me from passing the physical. So, I now live vicariously through videos of people like you who are enthusiasts. You are my favorite. I wait on pins and needles for each episode. Please, whatever you do, keep these videos coming. I absolutely love what you do!

I like your opening statement. Cars are the same way. A lot of advances in our new cars came from lessons learned at the track. As far as finding my passion for something to do, Mike that takes money. I've been disabled for 13 years now. The money I had stashed away for retirement disintegrated when my inlaws were refused their hard earned health care from the VA. My father in law was an electronics engineer and worked for the navy during the was one of a handful of guys that designed, built and installed surface contact radar that allowed us to hunt down Nazi Uboats at night while they were recharging!

Yeah, keep it like it is. Don’t need a bunch of producers ‘adding value’ and in the process messing it all up. I personally love the low budget production look. Also his goal is to get ppl into aviation, and I think this simple YT channel will do it WAY better than an overproduced, 30min, ad ridden, program that skips all the good bits (mold building / carbon layup) and dumbs it down for the masses.

Hey Mike, would you consider doing a Supercut video compilation of all your carbon fiber work, all the tips and tricks that would help someone get good at carbon fiber? I know it would be a lot of work because you would have to go through all your footage to find the carbon fiber stuff, and it might have to be multiple videos for length, but "Carbon Fiber with Mike Patey" would become a classic Master Class for the carbon fiber hobby crowd, because right now you have to watch through hours of airplane build videos to find the carbon fiber gold. It would probably need to be in episodes or installments, both for overall length, and because you are going to continue adding more constantly lol. And once you have all the footage carved out, you could break it down by subject as well, making molds, forms, trimming, body work, etc.

That's when I went to get my physical for my student ticket and found out I was color blind and would never get to earn my commercial ticket to fly ag planes. I was crushed. I did learn to get my "fix" flying RC and flew for about 40 years or so until the doc once again crushed me and said no more getting out in the sun because of all of my skin cancers. I'm trying now to find a place to fly indoor planes, oh, and find a way to buy some planes for indoor flight. You have made me want to fly so much more now. I love your passion sir. .....I'm not quite sure what to think about the words on your shirt, Mike??? ...but after all the time I've spent watching you here AND then MEETING YOU at your "Builders Paradice" hanger/Home away from HOME/Shop...etc, etc, etc....I can only conclude that the statement on your shirt is just ONE MORE example of your "HUMBLE" demeanor.... Which I think is an extremely RARE thing for someone who has DONE things that 99% of the rest of the world will only ever DREAM about ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! And we ALL......"LOVE YOU"........Brother ! ....for sharing YOUR DREAMS with the rest of us. ......and I actually had other stuff to do BUT THAT stuff can WAIT, cause I AIN'T GONNA miss your next Scrappy..."Come together"....(sounds like something the Beatles once said, doesn't it?) ...video!
