When Ned Stark died we weren't frustrated with the writing, but we were fustrated with Ned, because we understood how Ned Stark arrived there. Dany transformation in mad queen could have been interesting if it was executed in a believable way. BTW, Daenerys going mad, mainly because of genes, goes against the very foundation of George R.R. Martin Games of Thrones, which is plot mainly driven by character's choices, as opposed to a plot mainly driven by external events (like LOTR).

@Michael Goodman Basically, the writers pulled the equivalent of your chess opponent waiting until you are not looking at board, so he can then move his Queen against the rules, and you look back to suddenly find your King in checkmate. Funnily enough, I might have actually bought it just fine, if the episode maybe had Arya stealing the face of a Wight and using that to run past all the Wights and White Walkers, without being instantly dog-piled (you know, providing payoff to what we observed Arya practicing for the entire Season 6). Yet apparently, D&D did not even think to do something like that.

I wish he did. That would've been a better plot point than Bran.

How would she know if it was a unanimous decision or not? Of course doing that was cruel but considering the setting it was also relatively normal during war, and even the Wise Masters who resisted crucifying those children were still enemy leaders so not innocent.

A beat could be King’s Landing burning to the ground, but the reason for why it burns or who burns it is unknown. Another beat could be Daenerys dying, but whether she dies a hero or as the “mad queen” is unknown. At this point, we don’t know if Dany will end up going mad in the books, let alone if bells will be the reason for it. Bells have never even been connected to Dany before. In the books they’ve been connected to Jon Connington’s haunting (implying madness) of the Battle of the Bells, which makes me wonder if they took fAegon’s plot and copy pasted it on Dany, in which case maybe it’s him that goes mad and commits atrocities at KL, and not Dany. Show-wise, just looking at interviews with the cast, particularly Emilia, who has gone on record to say that she never saw this coming at all, tells me Dany was never meant to go crazy. If Emilia Clarke, who has the benefit of script context, never once saw the foreshadowing of Dany’s madness, then maybe that wasn’t what her story was about all along. And that maybe Dany’s madness is really just a last minute trick D&D pulled out of their asses to “subvert expectations."

Nah, the dislikes mostly dont come from people thinking that season 8 is good or something, but from people critizising the dude in the video for saying the entire show (and especially the writing) is bad since the early seasons, which is just not true. The show was great, season 7 may was debatable but for me it was the best season out of all. The character development was great, and people hate season 8 for screwing this positive aspect of the show up completely.

i mostly disliked because he's obnoxious with making himself look like a saint, it's not about the show atm, its about ME ME ME, his annoying laugh and how he was the ONLY ONE WHO WAS RIGHT AND EVERYONE ELSE WERE WROOOOOOONG.

@Zack Morris by going against what the character was intended to be. Going against the lore, see Gendry WATERS NOT RIVERS. That's small but it is an indication of the lack of care. The dialogue has been horrible since they passed the books. The severe dumbing down of characters to fit the plot. Many things contribute to it. I'm also pretty sure George RR Martin is waiting till the end to release his next book. The marketing would be a great idea. The show ends and the books resume.

@Yasmin Raveh GRRM has confirmed the broad strokes of the ending are in line with his plan for the books, so people really shouldn’t get too excited about them being dramatically different. Of course, GRRM may change things up quite a bit having seen the reaction to the show - assuming he decides to write the last two books.

Just think about what she's done. She asked Cersei Lannister (her biggest enemy) for help, she takes advice from Tyrion Lannister (who could be working with Cersei), she lets Jaime Lannister (who killed her father) live, she PROMOTES Gendry Baratheon (who's father tried to have her killed), she trusted Varys (who sent ravens to have her killed), her best friend was Jorah (the assassin), she teamed up with Jon Stark/Targaryan (who could challenge her for the throne, she lets Bran and Samwell live even though they were the only ones that knew her secret, she thinks Sansa is against her but never asks her to even bend the knee...and most of this happened this season. Just a few things off the top of my head. She still took advice and did the right thing, she acted tough with Jon but still wasn't too proud to beg him at times, she burned enemies but that was just her execution style and she liked to speak in hyperbole about how she'd destroy enemies, she had zero tolerance with traitors and bad guys and made tough decisions look easy, but that doesn't make her a psychopath. Now all of a sudden she an arsonist that loves to make children suffer (rather than head straight to Cersei and kill her)...the audience doesn't buy it. I think that's what's funny. The show's writing can't even convince us that Dany is this monster. Why would Dany go out of her way to roast women and children while Cersei is escaping?

I actually saw the burning the city thing coming since she talked about it in epiaode 4 .remember when Tyrion said he would make effort to talk to cersei to avoid the genocide and she was like fine do it so that cersei refuses and i can show them what their queen did to them . She dosent want just to defeat cersei she wants it to be a big defeat so that everyone sees "what cersei put them through" so when they rang the bells she did not like that because she did not give them "the big defeat yet" and she went nuts . I agree that this season was horrible but at least for me i ve been thinking that dany is going mad since season 6.

Blue Man yeah, I gave up on this series having a great ending 3 episodes before so I actually kind of enjoyed it.

HBO needed a good 5 seasons ( maybe 3... MAYBE) at their episode count to actually satisfy the story in a meaningful way at a successful pace, and what do they do? Rush the last 2 seasons and cram everything left into a measly 6 episodes of runtime. And worst of all, filler in this season amounts to more than in any seasln before it. In the initial seasons, almost nothing was put on screen that didn't further the plot or character developement... now well... the rest is self explanatory.

At this point the best part of the show is the characters just bouncing off of each other. Then the second episode is... pretty much the same as the first? That's a third of the season starting out as mostly fan service.

But your idea of using the wildfire to kill the people is really good. I did think they should have used the wildfire for something, but not in that way. Episode 5 is probably the most expensive 20 or 30 minutes I've ever seen. The Clegane Bowl was absolutely epic.

Also they threw away the chance of having another cool plot thing with Arya and that horse. Just like they threw away the whole show. I just don't understand why they rushed it. It could easily have carried on 2 or 3 more seasons.

No we are just losing time and energy with this season. Love Dany , but they made her look like the villain. John Snow looks like an idiot who hasn't done a thing right. Arya killed the NK but nobody seems to care... The war scenes are killers of logic. Uh and the two beasts of Dany, which they call Dragons? They made them look like weak robots simulating Dragons. I m done losing my time .

People keep forgetting that half of Viseryon's face was torn off. Im pretty sure the gland he breathes fire with got damaged too so the flame is weaker, which is why Jon didnt burn. Honestly tho dragon fire in this season is nerfed af. The lannister soldiers in season 7 that got scorched turned into friggin ash on contact but now it just turns people into overcooked barbeque.

In the books it's heavily hinted that Varys is a Blackfyre, a distance lineage of House Targaryen, who were bastards originally legitimised by the Targaryens. This lead to the Blackfyre Rebellions, the result of which being the Blackfyres nearly wiped out, and exiled from Westeros by the Targaryens. IIRC, anyway.

He was no protector. In season 1, he was planning to put Viserys on the throne even though Varys would have fully known how unstable he already was.

Even back in slaver's bay, she did not care at all about how many innocents she got killed, or how she created chaos anywhere she went. Daenerys was a monster from the first time she gained power.

No, she was going to attack and kill her enemies. The only issue with it that attacking anyone in cities will for sure result in civilian casualties, it's a moral conundrum that modern militaries are still dealing with today. I can absolutely buy that Dany as a last result in desperation actually did attack the Red Keep to kill Cersei, therefore killing some civilians in the mean-time. What I can't buy is that she instead chooses to ignore Cersei and to kill as many innocent civilians as possible. This makes zero sense and isn't at all in line with her character development.

Moejii - People don’t care that she was supposed to be a mad queen. That’s not what we take issue with. We take issue with how sloppily it was executed. In the context of the show it wasn’t a natural transition. You shouldn’t have to read the books in order to understand the motives of the show, that’s the SHOW’S responsibility.

Well they deliberately went out of their way to find some kinda resolution that hasn't been mentioned yet ("to suBvErT eXpecTaTiOns") and boy does it show. Nothing makes sense, none of the characters feel alive or like themselves anymore and it's basically just rushing towards the end.
