They couldn’t use the real ending of this plot line. They wasted it in season 6. The wildfire king Aerys had in the throne room was supposed to be used to defeat the white walkers but D&D were stuck in season 6 with no ideas. So they blew up the sept instead of the red keep. Then they made up a stupid hack to kill just one person to end everything cause they fucked up the real ending. They suck. They shouldn’t have pissed off GRRM.

S7 episode 6: Gendry runs three hundred miles in one day, raven flies to Dany in who knows how long (previous seasons said ravens take weeks), and then Dany (who's unfamiliar with Westeros and the Land Beyond the Wall) manages to find the A-Team without some sort of GPS. S7 episode: Littlefinger: "It's not easy for ravens to fly in these storms [winter]."

The fact that annoyed me the most is how everything is super convenient in this episode. The Wight raised by another walker in the group just to have him captured, the fucking lake concept, the wights realizing that the water iced again just when the hound threw that rock and, most of all, fucking uncle benjen out of nowhere to save jon (they already played that card to save bran). The time travel was completely ignored in all season 7. That is an annoying fact. All these plot convenience devices from plot armor to time travel and of course people making decisions just to make things happen is what made this season complete garbage.

Yeah it really shows how this army of dead is a force to be reckoned with in this episode. Let about five of them catch up to you, knock you down and lose your weapon? No problem, they're only really out to grab your shirt anyways. If 6 guys can hold off this big of an army, how the fuck are these guys ever going to be a menace down south? Weren't these the same creatures that are supposed to be insanely difficult to kill? Remember Jon in the first (or second I can't remember) book when he had to save the old bear from one single wight? Remember how difficult it was, how strong the thing was, how close he was to death if not for Ghost's intervention, how seemingly impervious it was to basically all forms of offense except fire, and how that one encounter literally haunted Jon for months to the point where he would lose his appetite just being reminded of it? Isn't stuff like that what made the threat of an army of the dead invasion so terrifying? Well none of that matters now. These things fucking suck and you can take out like 20 of them a minute with a sword, and when they get the upper hand on you they won't even try to hurt you as long as you're an important character. It's just more low stakes hollywood action, bummer.

The Hound throwing the second rock that stops short and skids to the feet of the wights was lifted straight out of Ice Age. Hear me out: In Ice Age, Sid runs from two rhinos he pissed off and bumps into Manny, hoping for protection. Manny tells them, if they make it across that sinkhole between them they get the sloth. Sid does the dumb thing by throwing a rock that stops short and rolls up to their feet, calling the bluff. That's pretty bad when Game of Thrones borrows from an Ice Age movie, even if it was the good one.

Everything really stopped mattering is the big issue here. Remember when Drogo died because of a small cut?? Those type of things used to matter because thats how the Game of Thrones world was built, it was much like ours with elements of magic involved of course. Now Jon is literally the poster boy for your fairy tale hero with infinite plot armor, no character was ever that important in the books. It just seems like they're trying to rush everything to the end point disregarding character personalities, passage of time and pacing in general. When thats what George puts the most focus on in his original story. It'll all be over next season anyways so I guess the legacy wasn't damaged too much. But it is a shame to end on such a low note.

Don't even get me started on the butchery of the whites abilities. Every time they appear they work differently. First they were undying monsters who had to be burn or hacked into small pieces to stop them. Then at hardhome they were incredibly fast but could be taken out by a single arrow to the head. Then at the hold the door scene they literally run along the roof like they are the alien from Aliens. In this episode apparently they explode after the Other is killed and for some unexplainable reason they can't survive underwater. Their abilities are just what the plot needs or what looks cool at the time.

While I agree with most of your points, I think you might be confusing white walkers with wights. White Walkers (the OG guys who turn corpses into wights) are the ones who are very hard to kill unless you have dragon glass or valyrian steel weapon, but wights have always been easy to kill ever since Jon and Tormund went on the expedition against them together. I don’t know why they didn’t have Bran see that Jon was in danger and have him send Dany a raven. That would have be more believable than Gendry’s marathon run. Surprised noone’s ears and noses didn’t fall off due to the exposure to the cold. Jon by the miracle of plot armour is still alive. Don’t get me started on the knee bending scenario. Pissing all over Mance’s character just to justify Jon bending the knee was horrible! In the end Jon had no reason to bend the knee because Dany said she would help him. However he bent the knee anyway! Grrr! It was an episode that defied logic and made most of the characters look like idiots.

I don't know why they are so scared to use Bran honestly. I mean, if you spent so much effort establishing that he is the ThreeEye now, surely its better to cover time and distance inconsistencies using his warg skills, instead of a bulky, city-born smith sprinting through unfamiliar territory of eternal frost in matter of hours. You have to be careful to not solve everything with him, but compared to some shit we have seen in season 7 its a much better alternative.

One of the worst things was Tormund saying Mance didn’t bend the knee for his own honour/pride, which really annoyed me because in a previous season Mance specifically says that the reason he doesn’t bend the knee was not for himself but his people, if he bent the knee the wildlings would not have followed him and they would have scattered and died, to have tormund disrespect him like that was insulting just cause they couldn’t find a smarter way to convince Jon to bend the knee.

They retroconned Mance's actions because Season 7 is all about Jon realizing he is nothing more than Daenerys' servant and should grovel to her. Because only girls can rule. This despite the fact that both Mance and Jon have good reasons for not kneeling. Mance knows that the FF don't kneel and Jon knows that the North hates Daenerys. But hey we'll just handwave good political reasons for their actions into misplaced male pride so we can get to the bad Twilight scene where Jon gives up his kingdom to Daenerys and expresses his desire to only be her servant.

Kelly Groen, it's not even about the North hating Daenerys. It's about losing autonomy. If Jon bends the knee, the armies of the North are conscripted into Dany's service, which means fighting Cersei and not the army of the dead. That's why he doesn't "bend" until she swears to fight them (I would've preferred he didn't kneel to her at all, but Ideas of Ice and Fire is likely right that it was done for the Cersei conflict in episode 7... another moment that was made to make Jon look like a noble rube). Unfortunately, the implication that Jon's pride was a factor, which was a disservice to his character, had been driven home and was probably taken as fact by many viewers. The retconning of Mance is likewise a disappointing disservice to his character.

@@fightttttt Are you talking about statistics on how many people watch it, which is just repeating that we are a minority, or about reviews taking money when they say the right thing? Or am I missing something? This isn't a true direct argument on the quality of the show anyway, something isn't good because someone said so. This video explains how it is bad, with arguments on the actual quality of the writing. Yes, this is still subjective, maybe you think it is good because you only care about the "graphics", or as you said yourself because you "dont think". But for original fans of the books and early seasons, this doesn't mean shit. Quality here is evaluated on the intelligence of the writing, on the thoughts it provokes, on the satisfaction we get from connecting the dots. If you prefer, thd show isn't BAD, it's just unintelligent. To me, this is barely different, because I don't want to lose my time by watching pretty dragonfire and pseudo-spectacular nonsense. I guess I'm a "thinker", and the majority is not. (I'm not insulting anyone btw. I may not like it, I may even find it deplorable, but I get that people, even intelligent people, sometimes like to just watch a series wothout putting thought into it, but just want to stay entertained or whatever)

A lot of your points are explainable by a simple fact: D&D have clearly never lived in an area gets really cold. Even without imagination, you´d just have to ask yourself: What do people on the South Pole, in Sibiria Skandinavia or the South of South America do? How are they dressed? How do they get around. The first sign to me that that episode was complete bogus (how do you spell that??) was the fast that everyone was wearing a pelt and gloves, but nobody was wearing a hat to protect their ears and head. When a beard freezes, guess what: So do your ears...

I'm living in a place now where the temperature has been below freezing for the last four consecutive months, and my ears and nose would've fallen off by now if I dressed the way these characters do. Also, I always laugh when I see main characters in battle scenes fighting without helmets on. I don't mean just this show, but even in other fantasy movies such as the Lord of the Rings, none of the likes of Aragon, Legolas etc. wore head armor. In the Battle of the Bastards, Jon, Tormund, Davos etc. would've been knocked the fuck out when they got slammed against men in steel armor.

I don’t want a show about battles, I want the drama and character. When Jon holds his dying lover in his arms, I don’t want to look at a helmet. When Tormund is going ham on some crows, I want to see his maniacal expressions. Not a helmet. It’s fiction. The point is not realism in batttles, that’s just a nice touch when we get it. But I very much do appreciate every extra drop of realism we do get.

Am I the only one to think that S8E3 wasn't THAT bad? It had pretty good atmosphere at some parts, especially the beginning (although the Dothraki charge was stupid as hell), there was this sense of impending doom. Sure the overused "Just in time"-trope was horrible alongside with some other stupid shit, but it had some good moments and I really thought they might lose. But THIS episode... I can't even begin to express how bad it was. Three things come to mind immediately: 1) At no point did I fear the death of main characters. I just knew the minions they brought with them would die but otherwise they would escape pretty much unscathed. 2) Apparently Gendry, the messenger pigeon/whateverbird and dragons can travel at the speed light. 3) The worst "just in time"-trope of the series (Dany coming to save the day) followed by possibly the second worst one (Benjen) after Jon's "genius" decision to stay behind. Holy shit. Wasn't GRRM all about destroying the cliches of the genre? Can't believe he had anything to do with this shit. There's probably a lot more that went wrong, but I don't want to think about or even worse, watch that episode ever again.

I’d say that the whole of season 7 was kinda bad for these reasons. 1. Nobody really dies who matters. 2. The world was too small, let me explain, everything was linked together in a lazy fashion, like how it was Sams dad and brother who got burnt or it was Sam who cured Ser Jorah etc. 3. Fan appeasement, Jon got with Daenerys and all the popular characters even Jaime Lannister were on the same side, this has became a fight of good and evil whilst one of the appeals of GOT as always been you support characters as opposed to factions as there are no good guys. 4. Rushed story telling, there was no character development it was all let’s do this and kept jumping to locations. 5. Finally some bits didn’t make much sense. The iron islands can suddenly muster the biggest fleet the world has ever seen like that just because the king said he wanted everyone to make ships, if that were possible why didn’t any previous kings do that before. It also annoyed me how such a colossal crown debt was supposedly easily paid off with the wealth of House Tyrell.

1-4 I agree. Nr. 5. Holy moly this irks me so bad. It is simply and totally impossible for Iron Islanders to muster such a fleet. "We do not sow." Robert burned their fleet, destroyed their castles and killed off their soldiers. How to hell are Iron Islanders supposed to be a force to be reckoned with? I would understand if they would be.raiders who play a minor part only... the whole greyjoy arch is totally ridiculous and implausible.

There's been some bad writing since season 5! What gets me is in S 7 e 7 is how Sansa accuse's Littlefinger on pushing her aunt Lysa out the moon door, while not explaining to Yohn Royce on why she lied to him about how Lysa threw herself out the moon door! I really don't want to hear how Three-eyed raven Bran, called his own meeting and told Yohn Royce and everyone else, everything! That would be the biggest BS Dan & Dave could put out if they would ever try to explain that plot-hole! Accused and executed without a fair trial! How does that happen at Winterfell? Although Littlefinger was a snake, where is the fair trial? I love GoT but, It seems that D&D and the writers just started concentrating on shock value rather than story telling since they exceeded the books! A real plot-hole cluster-F**k, I call it!

I fully expect Lady Stoneheart to come and save the day in the final battle in Season 8 Episode 6 and the writers to bring back Ned Stark as a Force Ghost to guide Jon Snow as he flies his dragon over the Red Keep and tell him to trust his feelings and let The Seven guide him.
@cocokai9661

Well the trial doesn't bother me. there's no such thing as a "fair' trial in totalitarian societies. did the poor nights watchman get a fair trial from Ned when he deserted? Don't think so. I think we confuse modern day concept of trials with what would have been the custom of these times. This would be more like North Korea. Once charged, you're doomed. 100% conviction rate! What bothers me is that they had LF stick around like some helpless lovesick puppy. No way does he hang around once he hears about the army of the dead, let alone Jon coming back from the dead and freaky Bran. LF would have melted into the night, putting distance between himself and danger.
@cocokai9661
@cocokai9661 5 жыл бұрын
I think they, D&D, are just ready to be done. So instead of allowing the story to unfold naturally, they're just offing these characters and tying up storylines any old way. Like I said, no way would LF have hung around waiting for the army of the dead. He's have put some distance between himself and the danger while he watched to see what would happen and plan his next moves. They could easily just have had him disappear one night. leaving it a mystery as to whether he'd left, or was killed by Arya.
@jaybird8192

The Nightswatch is not the same from what happend to littlefinger! You serve till death in the watch! He deserted which means he gets beheaded: no trial! We heard that in the opening scene in season 1! Littlefinger was lord of the vale! Tyrion had two trials, even in a so called totalitarian society! So you're saying in Winterfell, people just get executed without a trial?

The night king rested his pale hand on the surface of the water. A disc of blue ice grew around his cold touch until the hole in the lake was once again solid, and for a time the only sound was the whispering of snow dust blowing over smooth ice.. The king of the dead's hand suddenly tensed. His fingers dug into the ice as his hand became a strangling claw. The ice trembled as jets of steam and air began exploding through the surface. The frozen hole in the lake shattered like glass, the water below churning and spitting and from it came a leathery wing as big as a ships sail, razor sharp talons drove into the ice around the hole. The head of the beast crested the water, Shades of blue and white swirled and danced in its eyes like the northern lights themselves were imprisoned. It opened its jaws wide and let loose a bolt of blue flame mixed with shadow that vaporized twenty wights. It slowly dragged itself onto the ice, then rose on its hind legs letting loose a scream that was fear, death, sorrow, and rage. The night king walked calmly toward the beast. It roared, spit flame and lashed its tail with razor sharp teeth bared, then lowered itself to the ground and offered a tattered wing. For in death there is but one master, and even dragons must kneel.

How to fix the suicide mission beyond the wall * The wights are slowly building a giant ramp in front of the wall for the entire duration of the season. This shows that they do have some sort of plan to get passed and aren't relying on a conveniant dragon being given to them. * The mission beyond the wall is to rescue Bran, not to capture a wight. Benjen stays with Bran and Meera north of the wall. * This mission is motivated by having Sam research the 3-Eyed Raven in the citadel and discovering his critical importance to the war, instead of him researching dragonglass on Dragonstone. Sam then accompanies Jorah to Dragonstone and relays this information to Jon. * Jorah doesn't get healed despite Sam's best efforts in delaying the inevitable; the reason he's going to Dragonstone is to say goodbye to Daenarys and warn her about the White Walkers (that he learned about from Sam). Daenarys incinerates him to give him a quick death. This is the reason Daenarys believes in the White Walkers: not the cave paintings. * Bran sends Jon confusing visions telling him where he is hidden north of the wall. The visions only make sense once Sam arrives to explain the 3-eyed raven. This is what motivates Jon going himself instead of doing the sensible thing and sending less valuable people on this suicide mission. * The peace deal happens at this point - before the suicide mission. The wight is completely unnecessary and is therefore not present. During the talks, Jon agrees to bend the knee to Daenarys in exchange for her helping him against the White Walkers. Cersei acts exactly like in the show: she agrees to the deal but secretely plans on betraying them * Daenarys accompanies the party to the wall to avoid teleportation issues (and because she's already agreed to help Jon at this point). Gendry does not participate at all because it doesn't make sense for a blacksmith from king's landing to be on this mission. * They use sledge-dogs to go faster; and Ghost gets to pull a sledge (not forgotten). After a wight ambush, the sledge dogs carrying Bran and Meera are the only ones to survive, while everyone else's die. Bran and Meera's sledge gets back to the wall, while everyone else has to run and ends up getting trapped on the lake. This explains why everyone didn't just run back to the wall like Gendry. (* Optional: instead of lucking out into the ice breaking, the team deliberately break the ice themselves. This gives a moment to show one character (Beric maybe?) as intelligent for thinking up this solution. ) * The start of the battle coincides with the arrival of the White Walkers who freeze the lake. * Tormund and Benjen die while fighting, in addition to Thoros's earlier death from wounds. You can even keep Benjen saving Jon from the water if you want to give him a heroic death. * Vyserion charges right for the Night King before he gets shot down. * Jon falls into the ice because of a slip , not brash stupidity. Then Raegal will carry him back instead of Benjen's horse, because a horse can't realistically escape being surrounded by wights. (also have Jon petting Raegal on dragonstone instead of petting Drogon to set this up)

YES!!!! THIS! why aren't more people asking this incredibly obvious question? Literally the first thing that came to mind when I saw them defeat the polar bear, suffering some casualties in the process: "just friggin take the dead guys and wait conveniently and safely in Castle Black for them to reanimate". I'm usually a trusting guy when it comes to TV shows and writing, I don't ask questions, I always assume the writers know best. But this was so glaring, I just kept googling the answer - only to find nobody asking that question? Why?! The only shoddy reason I can think of, is that they needed a long-dead corpse for this, for the "undeadness" to be more obvious. But that's bullshit of course, during the trip south the reanimated corpses would've had plenty of time to rot. Yes, the show is make-believe, but if you establish rules within your own show, you'd best follow them or people will call you out on your bullshit.

Oh god that Lord Baelish scene... straight out of a soap opera. They fundamentally fail to understand why the subversion of expectations actually had an impact in the earlier seasons. Just like the Arya killing all the Freys scene. It's just like oh Arya killed all of them... so? A main character dying wasn't what made Game of Thrones different, lots of shows have main characters that eventually die. What made it different was that characters died long before their arc had finished, it left you feeling almost confused, like what now? Having big characters die long after they have any sort of plot significance has no impact on the viewer.
@markokrstic3562
@markokrstic3562 5 жыл бұрын
SynsityGW None of it just feels earned. I mean I can write a superhero who just captures a baddy and puts him in prison. Nothing else to the plot. Thats sort of how I felt when Arya killed Walder. Nothing made sense, the show didnt get me excited about it previously, there are no consequences for killing THE lord of the Riverlands. It all just sort of happened. It didnt matter before it happened, and it had no consequences to the story after it happened. Its just there. Its just fanservice and I hate it. I mean, okay, think about this: if Jon made an alliance with Frey about Frey sending his men up North to fight against the Others, and lets say for some reason Frey accepted. This is before the talks with Cersei, none of that matters now, Im just talking about a hypothetical situation where Jon needs Frey's men because time is short and they're the closest army. Frey's men are crucial to save the North. And lets say, just as Walder was giving orders to mobilize his men, Arya returns to Westeros and kills him (ignoring the whole pie thing of course since it made zero sense, she just infiltrates the Twins and murders him). Now, the entire Frey house, and the Riverlands are in chaos, and are unable to aid Jon in time. This forces Jon to retreat, and entirely lose the North plus half his men (because he fought a losing battle without the men he had hoped for), leaving him scrambling, hightailing to the South with a couple hundred men (regarding the civilians, he could have sent ravens to have the majority of nonfighting population migrate to the south.) leaving him desperate for more fighting men(this is the part when he can open up to the idea of bending the knee to Dany, to get her troops to support him, because yknow, he should need a reason other than literal fanservice to bend the knee). So, Winterfell is now gone and entirely under the Others control, all because Arya murdered one of the most important lords. Her good intentions to avenge her family caused the loss of her ancestral home and house, and just to throw some more tragedy in there, have Jon either be severely hurt or even maimed. THAT would be Game of Thrones. Im not saying this is something George would do, or anything near his level of genius writing, but actions, realistic worldbuilding and consequences (with a bit of tragedy where good guys lose because of their own mistakes) are essential to GoT. We have none of that now and frankly the show is shit because of it. I wouldnt care if the show deviates from the books, all I care is that they think about shit like this. Is that too much to ask from professional writers who get PAID to do this?

The defense that infuriates me the most about season 7, outside of the whole "It's a fantasy show its not meant to be realistic" is that the "Well everything else is still great." Yeah of course the direction, costumes, sets, special effects, and music are all still great; by this point in time the production crew know what they're doing. But none of that matters when it is all serving incredibly, inconsistent sub-pair story writing that is drastically under the standard set by the books and even the earlier seasons of the show. In fact its all the more tragic that such hard work had to go to waste. Overall, to me it seems that D&D just want to finish this show and move on to whatever next project they got lined up. It;s not season 7, its the prologue to season 8. The main priority of this season wasn't to advance the story in a way that felt organic, but to setup the white walker war and to kill off all the remaining subplots. Yeah D&D sacrificed everything that made Game of Thrones unique and special just to make another Lord of the Rings "We all gotta team up together to stop the ultimate evil before having our happy ending" . And while I do love Lord of the Rings, George RR martin was right when he said that while Tolkien is a great writer he created formulas and templates that essentially broke the fantasy genre since all authors did was recreate that conflict over and over again for decades. The only remaining trace of the old Game of Thrones is Cersei, and honestly while I cannot stand her; I want her to win the Iron Throne now because she really is the only one who deserves it.

"It's a fantasy show it doesn't have to be realistic" is a bullshit defense because there's something called "internal consistency". You say there's magic in your universe. Jaime also, is arguably the only character apart from Cersei who's character hasn't been completely assassinated - Stannis and Dorne were a MAJOR screw ups writing-wise. To be honest, I think only Jaime and Cersei have been carefully written so well is because of the Valonquar pay off and the Jamie = Azor theory. If they fucked up his character arc before that reveal, it would ruin the reveal, which is why they didn't mind rushing Jon and Danny's arcs last season.

It's generic (and not realistic, in case anyone says it's supposed to be gritty or something) "everyone wears brown and is covered in shit" for costuming, or pure fantasy studded leather nonsense for armor. There are some really good costumes here and there, but overall for the whole show it's a joke. The sets, especially castles, are pretty bad too. Castles were not dark and dreary ruins with bare stone walls.

To me, the absolute worst thing about that entire battle, was the reason behind it. They needed a wight to show Cersei. Because seeing a wight will convince Cersei to help them. They don't particularly *need* her help... Dany could just conquer KL... but they decide they need her help. And capturing a wight will convince Cersei to help them. According to Tyrion. Who REALLY SHOULD KNOW BETTER. Since when does Tyrion trust Cersei, at all? Since when does Cersei trust Tyrion? Since when does Tyrion have any desire to help Cersei with anything? Why? And then Jon, who'd been at Hardhome, just went along with the idea of taking a small band of people to go capture a wight. When he knows, firsthand, that by far, the most likely outcome is that everyone in the band will die and it will all be for nothing. But apparently he knows he has plot armor.

LOL, it's funny that you mention that time doesn't seem to matter any more because I whole heartedly agree. Season 7 was the shortest season by a few episodes, but it seemed like more happened and more time passed than the first 6 seasons combined, lol. The little merry band and their mission beyond the wall is definitely one of the most rushed, and as a result worst parts in the entire show, but I always thought episode 4 was ridiculous. The way Jaime got from Kings Landing to Casterly rock, then assembled the Lannister forces and then marched all the way to Highgarden, destroyed the Tyrell forces and was able to get all the gold and grain from the reach back to Kings Landing is some of the biggest bullshit in the whole show, lol. He supposedly did all of it within a fortnight, (which is I believe around 2 weeks give it take), because that's how long Cersei told the representative from the iron bank it would take for her to get their gold. I don't know if anyone has seen a map of Westeros, but the distance Jaime had to travel from K.L. to Casterly Rock, then to High garden, and then back to K.L. is fucking ridiculous if we are to believe he did it in 2 weeks. It would be a super human feat if he made it all the way from K.L. to C.R. to H.G. and back to K.L. If he were by himself and riding his horse as fast as the horse could go, and even then the horse would most likely die of exhaustion. But Jaime didn't just ride to each place and like touch the wall and move on, lol. He got to C.R., assembled his massive army, which has lots of infantry who has to march, plus they have to have a supply train to carry food and water and gear, and then they would have to set up and tear down a massive camp everyday, lol. When a massive army is on the march they move at a fucking snails pace compared to a single man riding a horse. Then when they finally reached High garden they had to have taken the whole castle with lightning speed because their ridiculous time limit does not have time for any kind of a seige. So let's give them the best case scenario; they were able to beat the Tyrell forces and then gather up all of the gold and grains in a single day and night, they still have the long march back to Kings Landing. After defeating the Tyrell forces things didn't get easier, lol. Now besides just a supply train of the armies provisions they also now have a shitload of more wagons of gold and grain to haul along for the long march back to K.L. For an average midevil army all of that would have taken Months, if not over a fucking year, lol. An army the size of the Lannisters after leaving Casterly rock would cover about 15 to 20, maybe 25 miles a day, and that is in completely ideal conditions, meaning the weather is not too hot or too cold, and there are no hiccups along the way, no soldiers getting sick, or fighting, or horses dying, just a well oiled marching machine. So for the show to present all of that happening in a single episode, within a 2 week deadline is just fucking ridiculous, lol.

This is my favourite comment because my god, the teleporting between locations is just appalling and stretches credulity to the absolute limits, like yes the Arya thing happened last season we need not discuss it, then there is barristen dying to an untrained group of dissidents, then there's the blatant tossing of inheritance rules and the lines of succession in every goddamn fucking kingdom just so three women with no claims on power can take over, and Cersei blew up the great sept in kinglanding without immediately facing instant uprising and rebellion from the people of the city for blowing up the equivalent of the Vatican to Westeros and not even trying to hide that she did it, then there's Jaime staying with her despite the fact that he is aware that she did this, when he killed the mad king and the pyromancers's precisely to prevent the burning of people in kingslanding with wildfire, but I think the loot train and the army marching for such a great distance in a goddamn fortnight is the moment where any remaining goodwill I had towards GOTS died, I only kept watching for Jaime and Theon on the show and I just completely gave up on any hint of consistency

Agreed. So the NK may be immune to dragon fire... but we know White Walkers can be killed by fire and dragon glass! Why not torch the NK's lieutenants and wights, greatly thinning his army's ranks and buying time for the heroes to retreat and reinforce the wall? But wait, the NK has Uber-Olympic Javelin Throwing Anti-Aircraft magic ice spear skills! What a horribly written episode!

All of season 7 was a disaster. I agree with Dragon Demands that Benioff and Weiss know what Martin's ending is and rejected it. But they are far too lazy to create their own. They're just doing whatever they read off of reddit.

The writing is so lazy and uninteresting. The conveniences are far to many. There was a steady decline in quality once they ran out of source material.

All of S7 was written backwards in a way to give the NK a dragon so he can start his invasion. That's why Danny's team had to do horribly in the War. Cersei is ridiculously powered up. So they can arrive at an armistice and then Jon goes to catch a sample wight, Dany follows him and gives NK a dragon. Just imagine if there was horn of the Winter in the show like the books. Dany's invasion and the politics would make sense and everything would be different.

Update: However, I think the Night King wanted it to be a White Walker not just a simple member of his army. They didn't have to get the dragon out of the water. The Night King just had to raise his arms as he did before and it would have jumped out of it. It would have looked awesome.

I reckon they're trying to show that some characters are secret olympians, eg. Ramsey with archery, Night king with his javelin. I reckon Benjen might have just been ready for death, if I knew I was stuck beyond the wall being a half dead person I'm be pretty emo too

So, out of the team of Wildlings, who spend their entire lives walking and running across frozen wastes, and Watchmen, whose job is to do more or less the same, a BLACKSMITH, who spends his whole days standing in one place, is the fastest runner. It would've been less stupid if he was an errand boy.
