Another thing that pissed me off was how clean everyone started to look. Seasons 1-3 mastered the gritty, realistic aesthetic that added so much character to the story. But as the budget increased, the costumes, make up, hairstyles and realism that was so present in the earlier seasons was entirely gone. I want to see the sweat on people’s faces in Kings Lansing. I want to see the greasy hair and the imperfections. I don’t want to see a clean fantasy world that once left the main character looking worn and sweaty for an entire season, despite him being the second most powerful man in Westeros.

Remember in the show when Dany was crying over chaining up Rhaegal and Viserion and when they died her reaction was simply: 👁 👁 👃🏻 👄

You missed one thing. In the book Daenerys is a nicer person, but at the same time very dangerous. She is manipulative, deceptive and smart. In the books her arrival at the east leads to war and destruction. Even without her dragons, she would still be considered a great threat. In the TV-show she is almost stupid. In reality such person should never stand a chance in a real power struggle.

What I don't like is why they put her and Jon together when they have absolutely no chemistry. Jon and Ygritte had lots of chemistry, you could tell by the way she teased him and how he reacted, their conversations together and their genuine respect for each other. There is none of this with Dany and Jon; it seems forced because it is forced and I cringe every time I'm told they're "so much in love".

Emilia Clarke did have a major health condition while filming GOT. She had a subarachnoid haemorrhage which required two brain surgeries. She also suffered with aphasia. So considering these were neurological issues, I can certainly see why she didn't want to wear colored contacts.

The problem with Dany is quite simply that she doesn't know how to play the game. Her wins and popularity came from very unique circumstances but now she has to actually win people over and she doesn't know how to do it.

When Tyrion asks who will succeed her since she can't give birth she brushes him aside as if it doesn't matter ,well that shows how much stupid of an administrator she is ,she should have atleast created a system that doesn't plunge the seven kingdoms into war after she's dead . She's entitled and lacks the foresight I mean I was surprised that she went after food wagons instead of burning the armies .

Let's not forget the first exchange between her and Jon where both her character and terrible writing were a big issue. She demanded Jon to bend his knee because, again, because she is Queen. Remember what Tywin said, "A King who must say 'I am the King' will never be a true King." Same goes for a Queen. I said it before and I'll say again, mid-season 5 to season 7 is just one real bad fanfiction who knows the basics of ASOIAF.

I feel bad for Emilia Clarke sometimes, she's shown in films like Me Before You and Spike Island that she can portray emotions (sadness, confusion, elation), not the mention her facial expressions are just delightful when she's portraying happiness, those eyebrows have a mind of their own. But in GoT she always seems stoney and she expresses very little, her dialogue comes off stiff and her expression has this Patrick Bateman esque emotionless mask look to it. Her character was fucking butchered and like you said a huge part of it is because we don't get an inner monologue. In the book she's always questioning if what she does is right, if she should be doing it at all, she is constantly seeking advice from Barristan, Strong Belwas, her Mereneese advisors etc. Her tactics don't always work out, things go to shit on her sometimes and she doesn't know what to do. In the show everything falls into place, she shouts about how she kept herself alive all those years and demands fealty or death.

Dany's only claim to Westeros is that her ancestor forced it into submission. Aegon had no claim to it. Dany's claim to Westeros is "Bend the knee or burn." She is being a complete hypocrite. She saved hundreds of thousands from a life of slavery, brutally killed thousands of slave masters, and then burns people alive for refusing to be her slaves. And this is not deliberate from the writers. If it was, I'd think she's going insane and becoming like her father, but they and the casual fanbase think she's a saint.

I think my biggest problem with them toning down the places in Essos and the people who live there is because it doesn’t show us how hard Dany tries to adapt to their cultures. Adopting their traditions and clothes and strange ways. It doesn’t show us how alienated she really is from these people and I think that showing that would have made it plainer why she desires “to go home” to Westeros so much.

How can someone snap from saving the world to destroying and burning cities in just 2 episodes. And they the delivered it by dwngrading her character and removing what made her strong and instead making her weak and vunrealable is just plain satire. If they were going to make danny mad they should've started to make her decent into madness happen at season 4 that way we had 4 really good seasons and make her madness more real.

She also seems to find it really difficult to understand why nobody in Westeros is accepting her. She may have accomplished some shit over in Essos but nobody cares about that. To them she's a foreign queen invading with an army of what Westeros see's as uncivilized savages. She seems to demand respect from people who have no reason to respect her other than birthright and she doesn't even have that anymore now that Jon's ancestry has been revealed. It says a lot about her too. She just wants power. Jon is trying to save everyone. Even Tommen just wanted to do what was right and Tywin was more or less just wanted to leave a legacy behind him. Daenerys is more like Joffrey and Cersei than the former.

Dany is the epitome for everything wrong with GoT. Even more than the Arya plot, because Arya is now fully anime BS. Dany is doing all the wrong things in terms of writing, but is manifesting in a false sense of "seriousness". Like, it's a supposed "Grammy winning" role. Season 7, mainly due to the Dany plot, is the worse to me. Even more than season 6, aka "the last nail in the coffin of GoT and the second great spit in Martin's face".

Truth. I hate Daenerys. The book version actually has to...you know, DO things to get what she wants, from whipping Drogon to finally tame him in the Fighting Pits(in the show, she just stares at him and then she's in control. He stops letting her ride him....until she goes through this sideplot of being captured by the Dothraki, where she uses her magical immunity and every khalasar on earth is on her side now and she burns ONE slave ship with her other, previously locked up dragons(remember when Drogon burned a child? Ya know, the reason they were locked up?!!)and the slavers of Yunkai just give up. Then the next season, she tears down Stannis's banner(seriously, fuck you Dany, you don't deserve to even TOUCH Stannis's banner)and starts her whole conquest. Burns the Lannister supplies and the Lannisters, murders the Tarly's when she could have imprisoned Dickon at least. Constantly tells Jon "bend the knee"and says it's HIS pride that makes him unable to sacrifice for his people? Sam said it best. She wouldn't sacrifice the throne for her people. And, though her fans won't admit it, she's become like her father.

Dany seeming more distressed about Jon than the death of her dragon... I really hated that so much when I first saw it. It really strains suspension of disbelief. This isn't fucking Titanic, it's Game of Thrones. Those dragons were children to her, she'd be far more affected by the death of one of them than the potential death of Jon whom she's know for at most a few months (and the scenes we get of them together never show why they would have such a deep connection either, no it's basically Twilight).

If only the show ends with Dany & the night king hooking up and ruling over darkness. That would be far more epic and poetic than the pathetic, vomit inducing, cringe worthy ‘love’ between her and Jon. I shudder just thinking about how lame season 7 was.

Only liked Danny in the first season

In the books, I wanted Daenerys to triumph. In the show, I just don't think she'd be good enough. It's that fundamental change in her character that changes everything and she's just not The One. Her and Jon Snow together to me was the best outcome. In the show, she's in the same position, but she's not the same person, and it sucks. They took away everyone and everything that built her character. I don't blame people who have only watched the show for not liking her.

One of the fan theories I like the most is of Danny becoming a tyrant. It would be surprising and logical at the same time, everybody seems to asume she is a "good" Targeryan, but what if she is not?. It would be a more interesting plotline than predestined special princess save the day #girlpower.

This show needs to be remade into a cartoon/anime AFTER George Martin finishes the final two books. An anime that completely follows the books would be fucking fantastic. And then maybe a live action remake in 30 years or so when technology is better and cgi doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. Then we can have the actual story without budget concerns. What truly hurt Game of Thrones is it’s popularity and the producers low expectation of the intelligence of the masses. They dumbed down everything because they just don’t expect people to get it. Executives in HBO saw this cash cow and started putting their dicks in it. The ruin of every good show.

season 8 has ruined GoT for me. totally lost interest

I hate this character so much. Her pride and arrogance make me sick. Everytime she faces people, the first word slipping from her lips is "bend the knee", what's wrong with you! All she has done is threatening people with the dragons, buring them alive. Without her dragons and advisor, she is nothing, having no leadership skills, no military tactics, and arts of diplomacy. In my opinion, she is definately a ruler who rules the kingdom by fear, but she'll never be a leader who gains respect from lords and inferiors.

Agreed. Dany should have been destroyed after the death of Vyserion. The show's writing specially in season 7 really has dumbed down Dany. Where is the Dany that pulled one on the masters of Astapor? That was awesome! I don't even know why she would go to Dragonstone since it doesn't make sense strategically speaking. Buuuut they needed the dragonglass to put Jon and Dany together in the same place so they threw away logic for boat sex. And I hate that she brings out in the show that Mirri Maz Duur said she couldn't get pregnant when IN THE SHOW Mirri never said that!!! They edited that part the two times it was mentioned.

I feel like the writers fell in love with one idea of Daenerys, not a very strong one and went totally with it simplifying everything else about her character and showing to much of a Dany which I won't even call Dany and end up feeling kinda fake and bland. In the end the writers lost the sense of what Daenerys was as a character in aSoIaF and forced something which was only a small quality of her whole character making her extremly... dull and fake for Dany fans from the book and just plain boring more many show-only watchers. It's sad for me because I thought that they could at least make one of their favorite characters right but ended up even worst.

You could make this whole video about the subtle but crucial changes made in Dany’s arch. The whole point of her taking over Meereen was to show her in a situation she could not control and struggling with having no real power since dragons and unsullied are good for conquest not ruling. Hizdahr zo Loraq in the book essentially conned her into marriage and she accepted to stop her unsullied being murdered. It was important because it was Dany realizing how much she struggles with ruling. But the show can’t seem to handle Dany having any weakness. The Sons kill your men? Burn a random noble with your dragon to show how AWESOME and IN CONTROL and TOTALLY NOT WEAK Dany is. The fact that Dany forces marriage on Hizdahr spoils how desperate she was to save people, instead the marriage is pointless since there is no indication it will help and is turned it into a “you go girl!” moment. because apparently forcing someone into marriage, which Dany has experienced as horrible first hand, is ok if the woman is in a position of absolute power or something.

Book Daenery is a legend, easily in my top two Characters. D&D have completely butchered parts of Danys arc and have given her no background or not enough development after season 1 , they left out too much of her storyline and focused on the dragons and Danys big epic moments. The main problem with Daenery book arc I think, it too big for tv. D&D couldn't fit it all in, so they had to simplify for the TV series. Sad really because book Daenery is one of my favourite characters I've read in a long time, I like show Dany but they need to do more

I think Daenerys has shown that she is a really bad leader. She shows zero emotion and constantly makes incompetent or at least uncomprehensive decisions. She uses people and ignores the ones that currently aren’t useful to her. She spent a lot of time with Jorah, than Daario and now that she is with Jon, Daenerys didn’t really have a lot of interactions with anyone else from her team. Emilia Clarke’s limited acting abilities have also become very obvious in comparison with all the really good actors surrounding her. Overall there‘s a lot of things that bore me about her storyline and I really really hope the show is not going for this stupid straight forward ending of her sitting on the iron throne.

The only thing I felt like was true about this was that Dany did burn people who didn't bow down. But they were traitors . Their house came under the house that vowed to serve Dany and they betrayed her. And even in the show , they acknowledge this when Sam finds out and he tells Jon about it.

I do agree with you, a lot of her actions sometimes seems forced and other times scenes that are obvious and well deserved never see the light of day. Although in the book she is a much better, developed character the queen we see now is the best I think we could've hoped for. The argument "the books did it better" can be made for every book adaptation, and most of the time it's true. The books are able to dive deeper into her motivations and goals because there is no strict run time the books have to follow, nine times out of ten the books are better simply because their longer. They have more time to explain and go into the reasoning behind the events. On average the amount of screen time the queen gets is about one to two hours and most of that time is shared with other amazing actors that often overpower her. The Game Of Thrones television show has broken many records for its storytelling and character building and yet it'll never be as good as the books, that's a fact but it's still absolutely incredible. I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't being productive because I treat the show like a religion but it's unfair to give the show and the books the same expectations. One more thing I'd like to add, and I mean this is nicest of ways. An argument cant only consist of "the books are better." It's a valid point but it can't make up your entire argument because then it becomes a bad argument. You know the actress who played Daenerys did have a medical issue. You shouldn't be so harsh on her she had two aneurysms that occurred the first season. She had to have surgery more than once to take care of it and actually lost her memory for part of the time. As someone who struggled with medical things myself I can honestly say that has made me even more amazed by the actress.

"Valar morghulis. Yes, all men must die, but we're not men." This quote is about the human struggle with mortality in the books. In the show, it was of course altered to pat women on the back. I got it, they're better than the "bad men". Women in aSoIaF speak for themselves with deeds and bravery, not this. I wish you'd mentioned her fans which drive me nuts. They see her as a messiah who is justified to do anything, because Cersei is the evil dictator and she is the liberator, when in truth they're both equally bad. She decided the throne is hers so she invades Westeros and brings over dragons and savage dothraki. Also the fans' ignorance that the story is all about Jon and Dany making out and saving the world together, which it shouldn't be.

I agree that they screwed Dany up on the show, but she's definitely not the only one. The way they butchered Ser Arthur Dayne's character still pisses me off. From his accent (not Dornish), to the way he looks (no white hair or purple eyes) to not even mentioning Dawn, but just giving him two swords instead?! They didn't even make a single mention of the fact that the Daynes are clearly magical in some way, though it has not been revealed yet. It was ridiculous, because, IMO, Arthur is one of the most interesting characters, and his whole family is very mysterious, but they just ruined that utterly. So disappointed.

I was expecting to me kinda mad about this because Dany is my favourite character but you are completely right about everything. They have butchered Dany's character in the series. Sure, her storyline is more or less the same but the way she thinks, behaves and feels in the books makes it completely different. I feel like the show tends to make everything simpler and more "badass" but it actually ruins it. For example, when Dany is in Meereen there is just no solution to her problem. Slavery is the only way that the Slavers bay society can function, and we get to see Dany, a 14 years old girl in foreign lands with no political experience or trustworthy advisors or friends try to make everything she can to keep the slaves free, while feeling each day worse with herself for the ethical choices she has to make. In the show, they simplify it to dragons burning shit up like always

I love how lots of people disliked this videos back in the day because they didn't wanted to let it sink in, but after the final season the exact reverse happened and now people are facing that once the showrunners ran out of source material and had to write on their own, things went downhill fast

People don't really understand what the book and show are actually about, they only grasp the literal context. They thinking it is a show about a dragon queen conquering her enemies and sit on the thrones while the author wants to talk about how the idea of believing that you are a proper ruler/chosen ruler could consume and blind you. In the end, you will end up as an obsessed person who chooses not to listen and put your ego above anything else and turned into the "mad ruler". This is what the story is about and it is not applied to Daenerys alone but to everyone in Westeros who always thinks they have the right to rule and they ended up dead. Hence they named the show the games of throne because it is about mad people killing each other because they think they are entitled to the throne.
