Self Funding an Undergraduate Physics Degree.

You are very welcome. Just to point out, I self funded my foundation year, but managed to get a tuition fee loan for the rest of my degree.

Thank you for sharing this Hannah. I'm thinking about going back to uni to do another degree as a (VERY) mature student and the funding is my biggest concern. Thanks again for sharing your journey. Your vids are most helpful!

Hey Ella! Nice to hear from you. Funding in the UK for second degrees is a bit of a mess. I nearly went abroad to do my degree, but as physics is a STEM subject, I was able to study part-time and get a tuition fee loan. I think people can now get maintenance loans too but I wasn't able to qualify for that. Let me know if you have any specific questions and I'd be happy to help if I can. Good luck!

@@HannahColemanV Thank you so much Hannah! You've just broadened my options and given me a lot to think about. Do you mind if I ask why you didn't go for Open University? One of the options I thought about was to do an undergraduate degree with Open uni and maybe do a master's degree with a brick uni later. I know OU costs less and it would also give me the flexibility to work but I'm not sure if an OU degree would be worth the time and money once I finish. Thanks again Hannah :)

Wow you are really motivated and thats very inspiring, i hope you do well and find the means to progress on to the following years and graduate. I am also currently funding myself and doing a distance learning access course whilst working and it definitely takes a lot dedication as a mature student but it surely is gratifying and worth it in the end.

Thank you! So far so good, and I've managed to access a tuition fee loan, so the self-funding aspect is just living costs now. I greatly admire distance learners, as it's something I tried, and found very difficult in terms of motivation/time etc. What are your plans after the access course?

When you mentioned the £9K, I was like, "That's a bit expensive for 4 years, but ok 😁" Then the reality hit me 😐

Haha yes! Although thankfully I only had to pay up front for one year as the gov't now offer loans for second degrees if you do them part-time :)
