Muguruza played to win the match, Serena played to win the tournament. She wanted to face off against Sharapova in the Final.

Muguruza was an extremely tough opponent. In fact she beat Serena the year prior as well as the year after in the FO final. She was a much tougher opponent than Sharapova. Muguruza moved better than Sharapova and could hit with Serena in the middle of the court.

You call this well? She’s moving like a statue. You should see some videos of Steffi Graf. She was the fastest female tennis player ever and had the best footwork out of any gender, rivaled only by Federer.

@@akizaizinskiiin any case while we’re on the topic of SERENA specifically, Serena’s literally known in part for her ability to retrieve balls that would otherwise be winners, and THEN recover quickly enough to haul herself back into the point or immediately turn defense into offense. you can’t play the kind of defensive game Serena did in this match without good movement. be serious!

Here you can clearly see the reason for the domination of Serena Williams. HER SERVE. When her serve fails her against Muguruza, she is helpless. And also, Muguruza is one of the most talented tennis players. She could rule WTA. It's only in her head.

you mean the most important shot in tennis has an impact on the game? you're a madman. i actually think serena is one of the few who can win when her serve is off. she can hang around for spots which is why she's so hard to beat.

Serena can win without her serve, it's just that it takes her longer to do so. She is a good returner and can produce great ground strokes plus she has great defense. I never was crazy about her net game tho. Roger Federer said it best when things are not working against an opponent you have to figure it out, it's what makes tennis unique.
