@ The Late Model Tech I recently did a bearing refresh on a Dana 30 and mixed up the carrier shims. I am able to get .005 or .0085 backlash although my measuring technique may not be perfectly perpendicular to the gear face but is certainly close. The specification calls for .006 to .010 but I heard you mention tighter clearances in your video. Do you think I should opt for the tighter tolerance? I certainly appreciate the in depth instruction and taking the time to help others.

Those main caps do not need 100 ft lbs of torque. Should be at 60 ft lbs. I wouldn't exceed 80 if you went any more.

And just to clarify, you used dana 35 bearings for the setup portion so you could easily slip the bearings on and off the carrier?

Dana 30 bearing.

Also, according to Amazon, your link in your description for "used for setup... axle bearing", that is a bearing for a Dana 35.
