My wife surprised me last week with this setup. She found it on sale at Home Depot and my old Craftsman miter saw was on it's last leg, which I have had for over 30 years and it has seen some abuse. The table is easy to setup and the saw is light enough to move on and off the table. So after a weeks worth of use, I have been very pleased with it.

This is an excellent rear-rail miter saw with smooth action and all the articulation you need. One CON: It is a rear-rail miter saw. It requires a lot of clearance in the back, so you can't mount near a wall, such as on a long built-in countertop under your shop cabinets, which is a popular choice for home workshops. For that, you'll need a front-rail miter saw or one with fancy hinges like a Bosch.

Great information. I've been working on setting up a small hobby workshop in the garage the past few years and the first big tool purchase was a compound miter saw. I went for the Bosch 10" and is perfect for my projects. I have it on a rolling table I had and it's great to roll out in the driveway, saw away, and then use the leaf blower to dust it all off before rolling back into the garage. I never realized how handy the saw could be but I love having it. Keep up the great videos!

I bought the Dewalt DW708 GB version about 20 years ago and I've used it to rebuild on our house. I cannot praise this cutter enough, it was worth every penny from building structural work to book cases and new sash windows it has been excellent. Can't say that about the Dewalt planer, I bought three of them and each one came with a badly scratched plate, I got in touch with Dewalt to ask why they were damaged and after three months later still no reply, ended up buying the Matika model instead. Sadly I think that's the last Dewalt product I will buy.

The main drawback of this miter saw is the amount of clearance it needs in the back which is not compatible with a standard workbench in your garage or workshed. It requires over 3 feet of clearance from front to back. Your average work bench against the wall is 28-30 inches max. It would be wise for Dewalt to make a zero clearance model that is compatible with workshop and garage workbench’s.

I'm loving the Bosch soooo much more than the Dewalt! (Especially the newer, lower quality Dewalt here in the US.) It breaks my heart to see Dewalt fall so far in quality these past few years. Bosch however has been extremely impressive. I just wish we, in the US, could get a lot of the tools Bosch sells around the world. But overall, the Bosch North America brand will be unveiling new tools in 2022 that will put them over other brands. I wish I could say more... but I will just say this... Next year, Bosch will be innovative, rather than copying other brands.

As of 2022, there is a recall on the DWS780 as well as the DWS779. The safety shield can break, sending projectiles at users which may cause lacerations. A lot of people are affected by this. About a week after buying a very expensive saw, I saw the recall. The fix is a repair kit sent by DeWalt. This should have been a very simple fix but it turned into a nightmare. I have spent the last month, contacting DeWalt trying to get the part sent with no resolution. It started off fine with DeWalt saying they would send the part and to expect two weeks. When it didn’t arrive, I found out it had never shipped and they didn’t really seem to care about making it right. No updates, no communication - they just didn’t send it. I can’t get anyone from DeWalt to take the recall seriously or send the part. They aren’t responding to replies on any of their tickets. Calling has made no difference. No one, including myself, enjoys throwing $600 to the wind on a safety hazard and a non-responsive company. I no longer support DeWalt tools.

I love Dewalt tools. Only drawback with them is the warranty. You are at their mercy if anything goes wrong. And generally, the repair time is quite lengthy, as you have to send the tool in for examination/repair to one of their service centers. I looked at this saw, to replace a smaller 10" saw that was slowly dying. After a couple of weeks researching, I bought a comparable saw (exact same features) for $200 less. Quite happy with the purchase. Great video.

Lucky! The Dewalt Tools you can get are great!!! Here in the US, Dewalt has cheapened their tools SO much over the last 5 years. (And with their products/marketing now targeting the CoviDIY folks. ) They're making a fortune. I bought a DWS779 on promotion last year, and they cheapened it so much. The older "type" had identical features to the DWS780 (after you bought and installed the light kit.) Once I seen the other features dewalt took from the saw (type 20 vs type 21 and type 22) I was done... And I'm glad! I got the Bosch, and WOW it is Amazing! It's a whole different level of quality. Dewalt broke my heart. But 8t worked out great for me!!

Well wear mate, nice saw.. can't beat that new tool buzz. My Mrs. gave me a serious slagging when I was reading the online manual for my table saw weeks before I got it 😁

Shane has got a new play toy! Awesome! 4:49... that's how long it took for the blue painter's tape to appear. I knew that painter's tape was going to be somewhere in this video. And I was right. Enjoy the new toy Shane. Now you can do a video and show us how to maintain mitre saws. Take care my friend! ~ Louis

I had that very saw. Absolutely loved it. And the shadow line is a brilliant feature. However, my workshop is small and the extra space that's needed at the back, I just didn't have. And that is why I traded to the Bosch 12" Glide saw. If space wasn't an issue, I would have kept the DeWalt. Anyway, you are gonna have years of fun using it. Great video. 👍👍👍

Mate....this saw is a wood eating beast!! I love it 👍👍 Yeah l can see where space can be an issue and like you said, your Bosch solved that....l think Dirk has the same one as you 🤔 Thanks for watching mate 👍😁🇦🇺

Had the same problem but I bought the Rigid portable universal miter saw stand. What a life changer! Now it's folded up in a nice little package up against the wall and I can bring it out any time.

I don't usually DeWant this brand of saw but this one looks sweet, the cross cut capacity is huge. Is this the one you had Chris?

DeWalt isn’t a waste of money. Still far from the top of the line, but high quality and trustworthy. It’s more like the minimum investment for solid tools.

I currently have a cheap and basic chop saw, but want to upgrade to this DeWalt... Hence why I'm here, enjoying watching your great video! I'm planning to buy one and use it to build a new chicken coop from pallet and scrap wood, and wondered if you might consider making a video to help a newbie like me figure out how? I've watched a fair few videos on how to build a chicken coop now, but not felt any have given me the confidence to tackle such a project. Having just watched several of your videos (this one and tips for using a mitre saw), I think your brilliantly simple yet wonderfully clear way of explaining things would really help me and others learn how to successfully build a chicken coop. Would you please, please, please consider this project and make a video on it?! Thank you!

Hi. Do you use impact in your work, do you plan to make a video on this tool and work with it? Maybe some kind of life hacks or tips for a good rig for an impact ...

Note that million plus of DeWalt mitre saws recalled DeWALT says the power tool recall involves models DWS779, DWS780, and DHS790 Miter Saws. You’ll find the model numbers on the saw’s nameplate. But only the models with date codes 2019 04 through 2022 04 suffer from the problem.

Nice saw! I couldn't agree more about using 240v (or whatever the corded voltage is in whichever country other people are from) on stationary tools like this. Unless people are working way away from a power source then it's got to be a better move. Ooh you'll appreciate this! My wife doesn't care so I've got to tell someone 😄 I had a win recently! I found an incorrectly listed item on Amazon and got 6 genuine 5amp Makita batteries for £15 each (about 28 Australian dollars). They're normally £75-100 each over here! Amazon listed strimmer heads as batteries by accident and actually sent them. Price and reviews showed as strimmer heads but photo and codes were for batteries. So happy! I can now sell all my Aldi cordless and start to replace with quality Makita tools.
