The fact that you went on a LORE rant proves that you completely missed the point of the game to begin with in the sense that it’s: 1.) A POWER FANTASY that brings force powers to a new level we’ve never seen. 2.) It’s pretty much a “what if” spinoff (what if Vader had a super secret apprentice) whose lore was never meant to be taken even remotely seriously as part of the main timeline. And if you put it that way the game was actually incredibly fun, at least for its time.

hey man, I couldn't agree more! Like, I get the point of the game was to be a ridiculous power fantasy and all, but Sam Witwer is just too powerful. Like honestly if starkiller's story was set in a different timeframe like in the High/Old republic it would be fine even if he was canonical, i mean, we have characters like Revan or Vitiate who are also overpowered but they don't interfere with the main canon of the movies since they all died thousands of years prior to even the formation of the galactic republic, the worst thing they can cause is discussions about who is stronger, but when you have someone who can not only stand his ground but actually beat both Vader and Frank, that actually coexisted with them, it just starts to get silly. I also agree with it being out of character for Vader to try and overthrow the Emperor for the f*ck of it. Anyway you summed it up perfectly and i look forward to seeing your take on Force Unleashed 2!

My boy you seem to forget that there was no rebellion at the time of this game, at the end of the game bale flat out says "are we ready to finish what he started, then at last the Rebel Alliance is born, Here tonight" I had the game on PS2 so to quote you "of course the graphics look like shit" all graphics of old look like shit compared to graphics of today. The rebellion was formed that night, it didn't exist yet.

You could argue that, once Palaptine achieved it's (and the Sith Order's overall) goal, ie. to rule the galaxy once more, he'd want to rule forever and there would be no need for the student-overthroving thing anymore and that he'd never let Vader, or anyone else to take him over.

@@FMK03 Given that ROTJ was made well before the expanded universe made the rules of the sith and Jedi common knowledge, the most likely plan the emperor had was to have Luke and Vader kill each other(Luke falling to the Dark side with the Rebellions last gambit on the 2nd death star possibly failing and Vaders goading about Leia) and either clean up whoever was left so it was just him at the top.

@@HiroOfLegend No, the plan was to either turn Luke to the dark side or have Vader kill him so the only hope for the return of the Jedi would be lost and he wouldn't be challenged. It's clear that they're considering Luke a possible apprentice based on both Sidious and Vader's conversation from TESB, Vader pushing him to join him as father and son, and the Emperor and Vader encouraging him to be more aggressive, with Sidious instructing Luke to kill him as he's sitting on his throne and/or Vader when Luke slashed off the cybernetic hand that was carrying the lightsaber, effectively disarming Vader, during their final confrontation in the 2nd Death Star. Given all of this evidence, it's clear they were planning to recruit Luke into the Sith, with Luke being apprenticed to either Vader or the Emperor/Sidious. Of course, that's not ignoring the possibility of them simply killing Luke off in the event the plan were to fail.

These counter points NUKE the entire premise of Sheevs thoughts on the game. He's just wrong. 🎯

While galen and vader were evenly matched for most of the duel, galen used dun moch, or a variation of this technique, involving the use of verbal taunts to weaken a person's focus in battle, against vader, and galen was able to capitalize on an opening soonafter, leading to his victory. By the force unleashed 2, vader corrects his mistakes from the first fight, and is able to out duel the starkiller clone, who was More powerful than the original. The clone was only able to beat vader by feigning defeat and then blasting vader with force lightning. Overall, I think starkiller's victories over vader are circumstantial and i don't think he can beat vader consistently

Actually he does hold Palpatine back in the book the same way he does in the game, where he dies.

@@harrambou9468 He holds back the lightning for a short while, but he doesn't actually fight palpatine like in the game. Also, the force explosion caused by starkiller absorbing the lightning ended up killing him, whereas palpatine was practically able to survive it completely unscathed.

To tack onto that point, I always interpreted Starkiller’s powers to just be a flashy exaggerated portrayal of force abilities on screen. Not to say the cutscenes or gameplay was fake or wasn’t actually happening, more like “power-wise” his attack potency isn’t necessarily beyond what any given trained force user would be able to dish out. He just has a very flashy fighting style. I don’t see any reason why a given Jedi like Ki-Adi-Mundi or whoever couldn’t technically exert the same destructive output, it’s just not in-character or even functionally ever needed for them to do so.

Interesting since one train to be jedi but run away from helping people while the other given his life to help spark the rebellion in the dark times of the galaxy.

Palpatine didn't want to stay on Corouscant but wanted to be part of the trap on Endor because he felt like he was on the pinnacle of triumph and was generally very arrogant. This is also the reason why his reign only lasted 23 years. By the way, I like the contrast with his return form in Dark Empire, when he simply said: Screw it, I'm going on a path of destruction across the galaxy. He is still a Star Wars villian at the end of the day...

A) Vader's weakness to Force lightning fails to account for the part that Starkiller also beat Palpatine, which was also mentioned in the video. Palpatine is a lot stronger than Vader. B) "General Kenobi, years ago you served my father in the Clone Wars. Now he begs you to help him in the struggle against the Empire. You must see this droid delivered safely to my father on Alderaan." C) Vader's whole deal in ROTJ is that he's unwilling to go against the Emperor because he doesn't believe it's possible to defeat him. That's what makes it so significant that he chose to do so in order to save Luke, and gave his life in the process.

@@SheevTalks Okay fair to point A, Starkiller is obviously just OP because he's a protagonist. I don't think it's a bad thing because those games are great, but continuity-wise sure it makes no sense. Not sure how B slipped my mind, whoops. However, this doesn't confirm he's still part of the senate, so he very well could be a fugitive aiding the rebellion. Why is a fugitive's daughter allowed to be on the Senate you might ask? Well obviously because the Empire is rational and wouldn't blame her for her father's treasonous actions 😁. Why is Bail still on Alderaan as a fugitive? Perhaps Leia hides him there since her family has enough influence for Alderaan's military to harbor a traitor to the empire. Leia obviously then trusts Bail to receive the droids and death star plans which will later be brought before the senate. All speculation yes, but point being the game's story had the wiggle room to argue that Bail did lose his seat in the Senate before ANH. You might dislike the idea, but nonetheless there's room for the argument without actually threatening continuity, since Leia never says Bail is going to do anything in the senate. Still don't agree on C though, since it just gives him more reason to train an apprentice. He doesn't think it's possible to beat Palpatine on his own, especially because of the whole suit thing, but he definitely didn't view Palpatine as immortal by any means since as you acknowledged he does plan to overthrow the Emperor when talking to Padme. Sure, with Padme dead he had nothing, but Anakin still wanted to rule the galaxy, and had his own vision of "peace, justice, and security" for HIS new Empire. And honestly having Galen as an apprentice did give him someone other than Palpatine in his life, even if it was akin to an abusive father-son relationship with Starkiller just fetching beers for him. This is also supported by Vader's line in the game saying "not with you, no", because it implies he was still planning to overthrow the Emperor, just no longer saw Galen as the one to do that with (probably because Galen was now a full-fledged rebel plotting against the Empire, and Vader did still want the Empire to be in power). Furthermore, Vader clones Galen and wants to perfect his usefulness as an apprentice for TFU2, so I think it's clear Galen was pretty important to him. Judging by the Dark Side ending of that game, where we see a successful evil clone of Galen, Vader probably wanted to use that Starkiller to overthrow the Emperor. Vader's emotions or vindictiveness are the only plausible reasons he'd have to make those clones, seeing as the original Starkiller had already served his purpose. Once again, the game was working with more ambiguity surrounding Vader's motives. Where you see Vader as trapped and tormented by Palpatine, the game sees Vader as having the same ambitions as Knightfall Anakin and had him actively seeking ways to go about them.

@@SheevTalksStarkiller did not beat Palpatine, Palpatine toyed with him, when he actually tried to kill Starkiller he died relatively quickly. Also with point C, Vader didn’t believe he could beat Palpatine at that point in the timeline. By return of the Jedi he realised the effort was futile, but when Vader was younger there were attempts of revenge against his Sith master but they just failed.

Then what's to stop the Empire from marching into Alderaan's royal palace and start cleaning house if they already had proof Bail and by extension, Alderaan, were rebelling? That was the whole reason the Empire couldn't just do that, because they needed proof to justify such an act to the Senate. Catching their senator red-handed and having him formally arrested would probably be more than enough.

The plan to round up the rebel leaders? I know that was Palpatine’s idea; how does that change what I said?

​@SheevTalks They were going to be used as an example. Starkiller included, although I don't know why they didn't retrieve his body to parade around. Maybe since a fall like that killed maul (since that mess hadn't happened in the clone wars yet) they thought he was dead? There's definitely holes that could be pointed out and explored here. Not changing that it's still a good game tho. Bad story? Maybe, but the gameplay was fun. The plot was just way too fast to properly cover it all.

He’s so ludicrously powerful the emperor has to cheap shot him just to stand a chance at beating him. That plus the fact he almost beats the empire on his own makes him arguably one of the least believable additions to the series.

It never was. However, the novelization was.

It's important to note that the novelisation of the game was the more canon version at the time. There are some pretty massive differences between that novel and the game, such as the fact that Galen is not nearly as powerful as what the game shows him to be.

Agreed, if Starkiller was done today he'd be relentlessly mocked, but because he comes from the era of when good ol' Lucas was busy ruining Star Wars games, he gets a pass. Seriously, crashing a Star Destroyer with the Force, singlehandedly founding the rebellion, beating the shit out of not just Vader and even Palpatine, but in the DLCs goes on to 1v1 almost all of the main OT characters. Hell, the only two to make it out unscathed is Yoda and Lando. Fanboys would be absolutely furious if TFU came out today lol
