Shelley Fabares is a class act - has been all of her life. She was my first crush, but I didn't know why (I was six). Like that little rabbit on Bambi, I was "twitterpated" whenever I saw her on TV. Good thing is that's it's only lasted 56 years. I'm sure I'll grown out of it any day now

After watching this clip, I had to go and find the recording of "Johnny Angel" -- wow, if she "can't sing", the producers did one heck of a job of disguising that. Her voice sounds absolutely beautiful to me on that recording.

So dreamy and very beautiful as she is. I never get tired of hearing this song and I could play it over and over again everyday and never ever get tired of it. She was so very beautiful, sexy and feminine, natural and never ever seemed to know it. this is my very favorite song of female vocalists from the 1960s. 😇😱💞❤️

Today even more so with auto-tune we all can be stars (ha) Sounds like from the interview there was more studio enhancement than we thought , either way I loved that song and she was cute for sure .

I have both of Shelley's first two LPs in original vinyl, and I have listened closely. She can sing far better than the hags who contaminate the air waves and Internet today. She is too modest! Plus, her speaking voice is very feminine and musical itself. She can sing.

She is being very modest. It is her voice with no more studio trickery than the average singer uses to accentuate their sound. She sings quite nicely and recorded a song that will be played on classic pop stations long after she and all of us are gone. Johnny Angel 'LIVES'

She's not being modest. She can only produce a song from a studio due to the various enhancements possible that way. I don't think there's any example of her singing live which may serve as evidence for her points.

Of course she could sing. In 1962 (or thereabouts) Johnny Angel was the sexiest record on release. To us adolescent 12 years olds she sounded like a goddess.

She's very sweet and honest - it's not that she "couldn't sing" it's more like she could just about carry a tune in a whispery kind of voice, then they overdubbed her voice, added lots of echo chamber effects, and yielded a wonderful result - she's a lovely person regardless.

Why was Shelley always saying that "She couldn't sing?" She had a nice angelic type voice. People obviously enjoyed hearing her sing. She may not have been as passionate about singing as she was about acting, but that certainly doesn't mean she couldn't sing. She was actually very good at it. She was way too modest when it came to acknowledging her God given talents/giftings.

I think Shelley Fabares is a perfectionist and anything short of that to her is that good enough but her voice was certainly good enough to take Johnny Angel to number one and I’ve heard of the cuts from her albums and she’s fine not a great singer but a good singer there’s nothing wrong with a voice certainly commercial enough to sell to the teenagers in the early 60s

And she is only about 40 here! I was very disappointed. She peaked very early it seems - lAnd some women do , but other women get more beautiful with age. She still looks nice, though. Add to that the fact that she fell through the floor of her house which she was fixing up. It's a miracle that she is here at all
