This is the story about how I met Melissa Inya, her band and how I approach a music video, with only one camera. This time with the new Fujifilm XH2s. There's a few pictures as well. Enjoy.

I really appreciate the videos you make explaining the ideas, it's more personal and we can learn a lot. Gear videos are cool but dull and boring when you watch many of them. Unless it's a video in which you break things like your matte box (happy it didn't happen on your most recent rig build) 😂 When I saw the clip in the end I was like "why it isn't synchronized?" and hearing your explanation about the singer impro and the missing musician I was "ooohh okay, that must have been hard to manage".

I totally agree with you regarding the switch from dials to PASM. I upgraded from X-H1 to X-H2S on its release and it took me a while to switch to a different way of shooting. But those Custom Presets are HIGHLY underrated because we all have our 'go-to' modes of shooting and just flicking between your preset modes is very satisfying without having to change all settings to get the results you need. I really don't mind the dial changes at all.

Quick question: If I‘ve setup my C1 to C6 settings, can I just change that one setting dial to easily switch between taking picture or shooing video? Or do I need to adjust other dials to switch between still and video? I‘m still on the X-T3, but switching between the two requires to turn so many wheels, that it doesn‘t work out well. You need to decide what you want or use two camera…

@@totallyperfectworld You can choose if the C slot is for video or still, så you can dedicate each slot to anything.

@@totallyperfectworld There is a menu where you can choose between video or still for each slot individually. Så you can allocate say three slots for video and 4 for stills if you want or just 1 for video and 6 for stills if you want that.

15:05 small correction - X-H2S uses CFExpress Type-B, different to CFast which is more like the old CompactFlash.

Yes, I used the build in ibis. I used a manual cinelens Samyang 24mm t-stop1.5, so it was purely the build in ibis.

magnitize is also possible to do in daivnchi resolve :)! anyway debathing between this and panaosnic s5iix ( leaning towards the panasonic) for both photo and video. thank u for this video

How do you think OM lenses would do on this camera. Im thinking about using my 24mm with a converter.

hi Palle, did you go with MF for the music video? In this talking head video the AF is quite jumpy. For my work (photos & videos, from product, to event, to portraits, I live in a small town and have to cover as much as I can to survive kind of ;) and I love doing different things...I use a x100v and a x-t4 but for my video work I need to get a camera without recording limit. Now the price of the XH2S is quite similar to for example the sony a7iv and I wonder what the better investment would be...to have a FF tool with maybe more reliable AF or just stick with fuji because of the skin colours. It drives me crazy especially because the prices are so high right now and it's 'just' the 2nd body. It needs to cover video and be at least a backup for my x-t4 or maybe offer some FF options (24-105mm f4 + 85mm f1.8 is what I would get). Any advise? thanks

It's not an easy question about the FF Sony and the Fuji. The musicvideo is purely manual focus. I don't rely on autofocus when I'm behind the camera. This video is jumpy because i speak with my hands and didn't activate face-detection. The XH2s is very precise when focusing, but it have to know what to focus on. So when my hand takes up the foreground, it immediately shifts focus to those. In the future I might go for a smaller aperture and face-detection.

Going to have to watch this again. It's been a while since I've shot live music. When I first watched the music video, I thought wow, Palle's got to be on the move. But now if I understand correctly, it was more than one take?

You can tell that people are really engaging with these two videos. So 5 takes, in which you focused on different members/sections. You said that they then chose their preferred version, so that's the one you use in the main timeline for the audio. When you add a clip above that timeline, Final Cut recognizes that the clip avove is replading the clip below. Very cool stuff. (As I mentioned, haven't done this sort of stuff in a while.)

@@sbhopper8511 They chose which version to play along with. Because when the guitarplayer had to leave, I made them perform to the recording, by playing along with it, while stille playing and not just pretending It often works well, to maintain the energy.

And…BTW…a comparison of the X-H2 and X-H2s from a users perspective or from a person who shoot both, stills and videos would be really interesting. The specs are there…but how about real usage…

If you need to shoot fast moving stuff, the s is the answer. If you want to shoot high resolution pics and don't need insane speed. the HS is the one. With my shooting pattern, I would go for the H2.

@@PalleSchultz Are there though? If you want the best in film with Fuji you no longer have a choice. Fuji’s design / aesthetic has always been to have dials that allow the user to make choices on the fly. This camera has killed that. Terrible idea. In this video you said so yourself that it’s not what you would’ve liked to see!

@@NorthernMigrationTravel For video it is perfect. But not as much for stills for me. Some people like that approach. That's why I still use my X-Pro3 for most things stills. The XH series are this way. The XT's are more old school. So yes. You do have a choice.

@@PalleSchultz I tend to disagree… The Xh1 was a perfect example of how you can integrate the best of film and photography and still have all of the dials on top. This new design completely moves away from the heartbeat of what Fuji are all about!
