Well diagnosed and repaired POC. When you went out the gate, I was fully expecting you to reappear with something else to fix sat in the basket on the front lol. Cheers, Jon

I had my mum's one of these for repair last year. She hasn't used it that much since she remarried as her new husband drives, so it just sat in the garage unused. I stuck a pair of new batteries on it and it didn't work. Tried sticking 24v straight into the motor and found the same as you, so put a pair of new brushes in (I've got a selection sat in my toolbox, no idea where most of them have come from) and the motor spun up fine when you gave it power. Put it back together and the thing still wouldn't work. When you tried to drive it, the electric brake thingy would click twice and that was your lot. After a bit of poking with the meter, I called a repair place for advice. They were very helpful, turned out that damp had got inside the main brainbox that controls everything. I cleaned it up, resolvers a few dry joints, but it still didn't want to play, so ended up fitting a 2nd hand controller. The guy who helped me diagnose it did say that if you use them in the rain it is a common failure. He suggested if it is going to be exposed to damp then it might be worth popping the circuit board out of the box and spraying both sides with lacquer to provide it with a bit of protection

When I saw you take off at such a clip, made me laugh. Imagine someone throwing such a thing away, well one persons junk… as they say. Glad to see you keeping on top of things, though sad to hear of the ravages of time. You are an inspiration, to say nothing of entertaining. Looking forward to the next adventure. Wishing you all the best! Stay well, and Thank You. (From Cumberland, RI/USA)

A lot of these type of jobs turn out to be an easy fix. You've just proved though, the fun and games start when you have to strip everything else out of the way, to FIND the easy fix! Nice one, POC.

Nice job POC, what they want for these motors is criminal prices, and it figures a little cheap spring that caused the failure. Imagine how many motors get replaced or thrown away because of that. Getting old is the cruelest thing in life.

The problem is load ! This is a direct-drive system with fixed gears if it's pulling along a “ high end user ” it degrades the magnets . The range drops , motor current goes up cooking the brushes , tripping & melting plugs . The maximum legal motor size is small ( but the industry just over drives them ) . The current limit can be 60 -130 amp depending on the unit . The motor is under sized for the job but at the legal limit . So it will not withstand a over current for long . 60 A x 22 V =1320 W this is more than three times the motor rating at 200 - 300 W . The hi / low speed switch ( if you have it ) just limits the maximum output voltage . I'm not being specific here as I have worked in this industry …...

Your like me I take things apart and then rebuild it or junk it . I stripped my 1985 rascal 655 scooter completely to the frame then I rebuilt it but didn't use old parts I totally changed everything the axle the motor the tires and ripped all the electrical wiring out and rewired my way. Price between the original parts and the parts that I put in it ... Original $ 1,700. And the parts I put in $750 I have a more powerful scooter and faster scooter.
