The closing shot of Terminator was shot without a permit- just Cameron, his photographer, and her son- they were waiting all day for the right light and when a cop came Cameron told the officer they were shooting the kid's student film

Since I'm not a professional writer or short film creator, I don't think I have enough proper knowledge to make a video like that. But as far as genre/topic of your film, they say "Write what you know." Keep it simple and personal.
