Great video, great explanation. My concern is today most if not all electronic ignitions are made in China. Being in the classic car scene, most here in Malaysia still use the points system as they've heard horror stories of electronics failing in the middle of nowhere and has happened too many times compared to those with points. If the points shut for whatever reason, you only have to open them up and you're ready to go. If the electronic shuts, you'll be calling the tow truck. So best bet is always carry a spare electronic module like what we do here if you really need to go electronic Ignition.

An honest look at electronic ignitions. They do not in fact enable an engine to make more power or get better gas mileage. Their downside is that when they fail, they tend to fail abruptly and completely. Point ignitions can usually get you home if you fiddle with them. Come to think of it, electronic fuel injection has much the same up- and downside as its ignition counterparts.

I agree and I still use a DuraSpark ballast system over aftermarket electronic ignition. People have done it and rev counters don't work, there's splicing involved on the Cologne. Genuine Bosch 2.8 distributor has 3 wires coming off plug (rocking horse sh**) aftermarket has 2 wires

Question About the distributor, Is it possible that the cam in it isnt straight anymore? Cilinder 1 is misfiring everytime, when i take the cap off, the contact point is a bit damaged, so my guess is that the rotor hits the cap and is the problem of misfiring. Greetings from The Netherlands, your video’s are vers helpfull and entertaining !

@Stevestonmotorco

The rotor is still delivering the spark so it's important for it to be in good condition. The only downside to electronic ignition is that if it breaks, it won't work at all. That being said, points are in the same boat for the most part and the electronic ignition units are pretty resilient.

Duuuude, pls help me! My mini sprite 1000cc when in idle the rev starts to get unstable floating crazy up down, but the engine doesn’t stalls. And only start to happens after driving around 20 min. When this happens I release the advanced timing vacuum line and it’s runs idle normally with a bit revs pitching up. When I put the vacuum line back then the revs lowers down and begins unstable again. Any clue!

@patrickchapman3741
@patrickchapman3741 2 жыл бұрын
Are you having failures with the electronic module? If you are then you have the wrong coil. The coil must have a 3 ohm resistance across the primary winding. If you are running a modern coil which only has 1.5 ohm resistance it draws too much current and it will damage the module. A 1.5 ohm coil will also burn your points out in double quick time. If your components are correctly matched the module is trouble free and requires no maintenance which is much better than points.

This is a no brainer. Why ? Alot of classic owners want to get in their car and drive. A lot of classic car owners are not mechanically inclined , no matter how nice their garage and tool box are! Electronic ignitions verses points..is the points can work loose and or just corrode and lose their effeciency to create a SPARK. Another factor is they make a physical contact from the points to the spinning distributor shaft , which over time makes the point gap inconsistent , causing the fuel air carb mixture to not burn completely , or at all....a lose of power over the power band , hard starting or even flooding out the car .... Not fear porn, just a fact of parts wearing out in normal use. Changing over DOES NOT. hurt the value of your classic ,as it can easily. be returned to troublesome points at anytime. Electronic componenets replacing points in Distributors and fuel pumps ,is a bullet proof up grade with modern electronic components. THIS IS WHY " YOU THINK" YOUR EVERYDAY CAR IS MORE RELIABLE THAN YOUR FUN CLASSIC...it uses these components already !
