This is a little long, so please bear with me. After I got canned from my 32-year TV job, I worked 2 1/4 years for Universal Orlando as a Henchman for Shrek 4-D; a Shrekkie, as we were often called. It was hard, annoying and with very few rewards; the only fun I had was doing the pre-show for the audience, the perfect ham acting job for a porker like me. Biggest thrill was when I did a preshow for Warwick Davis, when he brought his family around on the opening day of Harry Potter and he was dodging the public. Most of the time our work was unappreciated, especially by the bosses. But you, Mr. Goldmark and company, got to the heart and soul of the attraction. You understood all the meaning behind the film and the...well, lameness...that sinks in when you hear the same jokes fifteen times a day for over two years. You made great fun of it, and you did position Shrek 4-D where it belongs, near the bottom of Universal's attractions. In your Florida Attractions video, you mentioned how Universal seems to have more novel and interesting attractions than Disney. But did you notice how many of them are based on old franchises that haven't aged well? People mourned the closing of Jaws, that terribly flawed water ride helped by occasional originality by the "skippers," , but when was anybody excited about the next Jaws movie? The same for Terminator, perhaps the best indoor live-actor show in the park...whose movies have gotten steadily worse and less involving since Terminator 2. The only thing keeping Universal from closing Shrek is its ability to hold big audiences, run two 3-D theaters simultaneously in peak season, and that there isn't another 3-D cartoon film of any kind to put into those two theaters. And its newest nearby attraction in Orlando, Despicable Me, is headed down the same path. Perhaps the only thing worse is Islands of Adventure's Toon Lagoon, based on King Features Syndicate comic strips, some of whom haven't been seen in a decade. (Heck, kids don't even know who Popeye is.) Anyway, thanks for memorializing the attraction. And sticking "Kill Bosby" in as well...thanks for your brilliant conception that Mike Meyers and the Jell-O Man are awfully similar in their screen personas. Bless you for your perceptiveness, your wit, and your refusing to talk down to your audience.

+Thomas Reed Yeah, I have a feeling that Universal Hollywood is only keeping Shrek open UNTIL Harry Potter opens next door next year, because Shrek is what the theme park industry calls a "people-eater." (Disneyland brought back Captain EO for more-or-less the same reason when Star Tours was being changed in 2010-2011). I stand by my assertion that, in the late-'90s/early-2000s at least, Universal WAS opening far superior attractions, at least in Florida. And frankly, the long-term life of a franchise is ALWAYS a crapshoot. The Spider-Man ride, for example, was built years before Sam Raimi made Spidey a bankable movie star, whereas the Men In Black ride, to this day, remains by far the best of the sequels to a nearly 20-year-old movie at this point. And does the Brendan Fraser "Mummy" movie series hold ANY relevance to the youth of the 2010s? And yet Spider-Man, MIB and Revenge of the Mummy were probably the three best rides UO had to offer before Harry Potter came along. That's part of the point of my show, really: to examine these rides as their own individual entities, and not just disposable tie-in products.

With Hogwarts open for business, I'm going to guarantee that one day when people stop going to Shrek completely (do people still go to that ride?), Hogwarts is going to demolish that swamp so that the dragon challenge could exist in Hollywood. After all, we need a better dragon ride than what Shrek gave us.

(Future Proof Comment) So there was no dragon challenge. But instead Shrek 4D became the Dreamworks Theater featuring a certain fat Dragon *Warrior.* A good trade off if you ask me. AND I just learned it finally closed in Florida but it hasn't been announced what it'll be replaced with. (It's been hinted to be more Minions stuff)

I'm starting to become worried about what characters Jerk considers "guys in suits." I mean, first he blatantly showed the Doc Brown walk-around, then he showed FOUR hands in suits in one sequence, then he addressed the Donkey animatronic in part 1, and now he's talking to Beetlejuice in this. Yeeesh! At this rate, am I supposed to believe that the season 2 cliffhanger is a thing of the past or is that still considered canon? Because with Jerk's track-record of showing characters on-camera in season 3, I don't think that cliffhanger happened anymore!

+Andrew .johnson I worked for about three of those before Universal canned me. There are three factors about HHN that stood out. First is that a lot of guests got arrested for drinking and drug abuse (Orlando Police stand at the exit of every haunted house for that reason). Second is that certain set houses, like the insane asylum, get recycled and switched between the coasts and reused every few years. Finally, the Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure show is the first time I've ever heard the F-word dropped, officially, into a theme park show - possibly because the writing of the show has steadily declined over the last few years and that was all they could do to seem hip.

Uhhhhhh no. Hades was vocally modeled directly after James Wood because he came in and auditioned Hades as some kind of huxter smooth talking car dealer. Rather than a generic lord of darkness he started out as I've constantly heard the Farquaad is Eisner comparison but NEVER the Hades is Katzenberg comparison
@TheITinFIT
@TheITinFIT 9 жыл бұрын
+Swindle94 Well I've heard that if you took away Hades' flame hair and left him bald and drew glasses on him, then he'd look like a caricature of Katzenburg, but whether or not this is true is up to whoever believes it.

+Swindle94 That "huxter smooth talking car dealer" was the answer he gave OFFICIALLY in movie-promoting interviews so Disney could avoid a lawsuit...but I've heard from insiders that he based it largely on Katzenberg.

+Tony Goldmark And Dreamworks similarly denies that Farquadd was based on Eisner. But really, who are they fooling? As for Katzenberg, fun fact: during the production of A Goofy Movie, he tried forcing Bill Farmer to ditch his iconic Goofy voice and use his natural voice instead. Farmer said he recorded the movie like that for three weeks, before Eisner forced Katzenberg to lay off and let Farmer voice Goofy the way it was always meant to sound.

Just out of curiosity how come Morgan (The Wire) hasn't appeared this season since the Back to the Future: The Ride cameo?

+Eri Pena She was in the Blacksaurus sketch, but otherwise, I just haven't had any parts for her. And at any rate, for some reason she doesn't consider herself a very good actor. But we still remain VERY good friends and I'm sure she'll reappear on this show in the future.

Are you ever going to review that one park down the street from Disney? You know the one that is only one of the oldest theme parks in the U.S.
@thomasreed1386

+keyblade brony You're not talking Gatorland, right? That's technically not a theme park. The only other one would be the one that kept mutating, from Ringling Brothes and Barnum and Bailey Circus World to Boardwalk and Baseball to, currently, a big empty lot.

They have been doing some nice things recently. They also make fun of Disney like Universal does, however they seem to be a bit more subtle and are only very rude about it during Halloween, which is an appropriate time.
