Looks like Miyuki is the key. I didn't have them, so I used TOHO. The basket was then too large, so I used a size 47ss Rivoli. It fit great, but several 15.0's broke as I made so many passes through them. I think it's also important to use darker bicones so you don't see the thread passing through them. Can't wait to try it again with proper materials! Thanks for the tutorial!

Yes, Mary, you are right abot both things: Miyuki seeds and dark bicones. I also don't like the thread showing through the bicones. :-)

Hi Sidonia, a question for you. the cage for my naughty chaton seems big. could my tension have been to loose? or could it be because I used 15/0 toho seed beads and not miyuki? love this ring and want it to come out right. thanks for you reply.

I made this, but the chaton would not fit snugly, I guess my beads weren't miyuki, so I snugged the ring up with some picots on top of the chaton and around the bicones. It mostly covered up the chaton, but it looks nice. Wanted to add a photo, but don't see where I can add that in this post. Anyway, I love your work. Will try this again, but will use Miyuki seeds next time....

@iamseraph520910 жыл бұрын
This is a beautiful ring! I have never made jewelry before and I want to try this but I have a few questions: 1. Can I use rivoli instead of chaton? (Or are they the same thing?) 2. What is size 12 beading thread? The online store I am using only has Size 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, B, or D. 3. What is size 0.15 Fireline thread? The online store I am using has 4lb, 6lb, 8 lb, etc. 4. What type and size needle are you using? Thank you so very much for your time and your lovely designs!
@Sidoniasbeadedjewelry10 жыл бұрын
Thank you! :-) 1. If you weren't a beginner, I would have told you to try and modify the number of the seed beads in order to adapt the pattern to fit a rivoli, which is not the same thing as the chaton. Chatons have a diamond shape and rivolis have a bicone shape. Chatons are also a bit more "fatty" than rivolis. 2. Here is a link with a size conversion chart www.laughinghens.com/knitting-needle-sizes.asp 3. Size 0.15 should be the 6lb, 0.008inch. I also use 4lb. 4. I use John James needles; sizes 10, 12 and 13. Sidonia :-)

@jeanne17659 жыл бұрын
Sidonia, I have tried twice to make the ring because I love it! Both times, the chaton seems like it moves about in the base. I have followed the directions exactly. What could I be doing wrong?
@Sidoniasbeadedjewelry9 жыл бұрын
You are probably using a rivoli instead of a chaton. The difference between the two is that the chaton has a diamond shape/cut while the rivoli has a bicone shape and it is also smaller, even if, theoretically, of the same size - 8mm. See the links bellow to see what I'm talking about: chaton encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcS2-aRjKz_Ez4iXXdMk2lfZQCLzw-3taRofg5EGh-ndtWiXbg1mig rivoli encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSCjGUPNguodc_tba827GGyaphvcGNLYjFvu-1-2nLx6uMO3jCt

I bought an 8 mm Chaton from Fusion beads. It seemed like they were really short for the space with a little extra room around the outside of it. I reinforced the seed beads several times to tighten it. It worked, but is a little bunched in one spot. Thanks for your beautiful videos Sidonia! I really enjoyed the work you do!
@Sidoniasbeadedjewelry9 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Jeanne. I forgot to ask you what brand of seed beads are you using. You should use Miyuki as the other brands are a little bit bigger. :-)

I'm not exactly sure. I bought them from a bead store in a tune. I'll have to look up the code.

Ask if they have Miyukis; the building of the bezel is very precise and only works with those seeds which are around 1.5mm.

Does it have to be size 12 beading thread or will a .13 or .10 work as well?
@Sidoniasbeadedjewelry8 жыл бұрын
+Melanie Padilla I wouldn't recomend using a size 10, you might broke your seed beads at some point. Size 13 is smaller than 13, so is ok to use it.

hi Sadonia can a rivoli work the same way as the chaton ? thanks have a sparkly day!
@Sidoniasbeadedjewelry8 жыл бұрын
+Bonnie King Hi and thank you, Bonnie! And same to you! No, a rivoli would not work because it's smaller than a chaton. Nonetheless you could try and reduce the bezel on the back, it may work. :-)
