Silent Hill is a legendary horror series. Today I'm taking you through the first game, Silent Hill 1 on the PS1. Widely consider a classic, this retrospective review looks at explaining the story, the gameplay and everything around it to see if it stands the test of time. Will there be a new sequel or Silent Hill remake in 2022? Is Slitterhead something to look forward to?
With all the leaks regarding the upcoming Silent Hill games, my Patrons decided I was going to review Silent Hill. I got all the endings - good, bad and even the UFO ending which I'll show off in this video as I walkthrough the story of one of the PlayStation 1's best games and analyze every aspect from the gameplay, music and visuals.

This game was absolutely terrifying in 2000 when I played it with a friend. It took SO many hours to see all the endings without a guide.

Glad to see SH1 getting the props it deserves. My early memories of this were getting to play it when a friend rented it the day it came out. Neither of us knew anything about it, but once we hit the alley, and the camera changed, my friend refused to touch the controller, so I got to play the whole game for both of us (when he wasn't leaving the room to take stress breaks). I hope to see you covering more of this series, because more often than not, it's definitely worth it.

46:13 - "Almost" heartbreaking?? I was *way* sadder than scared at that point. I swear, tears still come to my eyes when I rewatch that moment.

You're a braver man than I, this game really creeped me the f out when I backseat-gamed it at a friend's house in 2000. Never dared to play it since :') But you're not alone, I absolutely love those twitchy, pixelated 3D PS1 graphics. Mega Man Legends is my favourite example of that era's graphics. Just beautiful stuff! 🤐⛰️

@@ABitMoreJordan Jordan, I have a small suggestion for you: would you try making the same video, but one with ALL of the content you want in it, and another with a shorter version of it. I think not all the viewers have the chance to dedicate as much time to the video, but I imagine a more condensed idea might be a bigger hit. Don't get me wrong, I adore the current format, but I literally stop and continue watching at a later point of the day, or even the week. I am certain almost nobody does that. If you put out two versions of the same content (one shorter and one longer), you are already squeezing the same content twice as much. You could also see what sticks and reassess at a later point with more data.

I'm full on team Silent Hill (the first four).It's my kind of horror game. I hate jumpscares, they just irritate me. Great Horror games are those ones that disturb you. Thanks for making this video!

Finally got around to watching this one. Another great video Jordan. I’ve played SH2, but never played the first game. It was nice to see the origins of many concepts in that game. Looking forward to Skies of Arcadia, I absolutely loved that game and spent so much time with it. I wish I would have kept my copy of it 🤦♂️

I think graphics like in this game will become more and more appreciated as audiences mature and learn more and more that realism isn't everything. The low fidelity can really help atmosphere and will probably continue to give new generations feelings of nostalgia for the era.

I beat the game for the first time the other day, and the second time last night. What a great game. Loved the video. Perfect! Dont know why i waited this long to play such an iconic game. Cant wait to play all of them except book of memories unless they re-release the game. Solid

Looking forward to this. Must have bought this 4 times. Agree that the flashlight looks amazing even now. At the time nothing really had much illumination. The siren sound still scares me.

It must be that we were brought up on PS1 because I absolutely love PS1 visuals and jump at any game that uses them like paratopic. If you've ever played Alien Resurrection on the ps1, it looks absolutely gorgeous, and oddly is one of the first ever games to use modern shooter controls, and was actually panned by reviewers for those controls

@@ABitMoreJordan it's hard as hell, but it's also super atmospheric. And it's crazy how natural the controls feel. I think this game and medal of honor were the first to have twinstick fps controls. Gamespot was the one that said the game was super weird to control with 2 sticks. Quite funny looking back at it seeing as it became the standard

Oh, the radio... It really gave me the creeps. I was actually GLAD when the enemy would *finally* show up, so I could shoot it. And ohsomanytimes, the radio would go, spike, and then just go dead SILENT. And I'm not talking about the sewers area.

@@ABitMoreJordan As a fan of horror games in general, I would say that I did. While I did not play all of them, and every title had it's ups and downs for sure, I always appreciated them. Was surprised that the biggest haters are actually the fans who gatekeep some of the titles while disliking others. I had no problem what team did what if I enjoyed it, but overall the first one was the best for me, and the PS1 aesthetic still creeps me out to this day. You should definitely check out Siren, as a lot of eerie atmosphere and great direction from first SH game could be felt there.

I believe the Fear of blood creates fear for the flesh. People are flesh & some people are scared or Traumatized from seeing blood because a lot of blood usually means death & people are afraid of dying. That's my take. Basically seeing blood creates fear for many people.

28:31 - No mate, I won't laugh at you for that. I do tend to brute force all my way in puzzles. In Resident Evil 2 Remake, we pass through a lot of lockers with number pads. Their codes are revealed in nothes vay after you seen then, but I would try every possible combination from the get go to loot the goodies.

Haven't gotten very far into the video but I'm going to forget if I wait to see if you clarify, but it's not snow it's Ash which makes the game even more creepy when you figure that out

Where does it say it’s ash? I didn’t see that mentioned in the game and even the developer clarified that it was snow. Maybe I’m wrong though!

I could never get into SH, I like puzzle solving in horror games and I don't mind backtracking but doing those things in a game thats pitch black was always just boring to me. Ain't nothing interesting about constantly staring into darkness! On the plus side SH feels a lot better to play through an emulator these days using a higher internal resolution and tweaked settings so everything isn't just perpetual darkness. Great video again it would be awesome to see a Dino Crisis video 😎

@@ABitMoreJordanI get it, it can be frustrating to put a lot of work into something with little return. I don’t think this video is going to have low views forever though. You know a silent hill 2 remake is on the horizon, right? If I were you, I’d consider at least getting it done just so you can time it with the remake release. Plus a new game in the franchise is coming out soon, plus a new movie. Silent hill is going to be a popular series and talking point soon.
