Silverado Spruce Up Part 4: Grant Direct Replacement Steering Wheel Upgrade

Here's another installment of spicing up the look on my 2006 Chevy Silverado (www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwU-A.... This time I'll be installing a Grant direct replacement steering wheel on my truck. Note, these replacement wheels only come for truck that come with factory steering wheel controls, since my truck doesn't have them, I will have to find some way to get them working some time in the near future, but for now, I like to have them on just for looks.

if you want the buttons to work you have to replace the whole clock spring and then have your gauge cluster flashed to get all the DIC functions to work. Then you have to get your stock radio flashed or actually the BCM flashed with a VCI number from GM to get the radio controls to work.

You just need to get the UK3 Option added to the BCM at GM. That’s the radio control function.

@@WealthyWhiteBoy and that requires the VCI number to add that function that was NOT original to that truck. I did this to an old Tahoe I had back in 2007 and at that time it cost 50.00. I don't know if it is even possible anymore. VCI stands for vehicle calibration index I believe.

What about with a interface for after market radio is it easier with a interface and if so uk Whts the best way to do it?

@@obsant7214 with an interface it will work, but obviously only with an aftermarket radio. Only way to get it to work with the factory radio is with the VCI and the BCM

I know I'm a tad late, but are you saying it's possible to do this without cutting or splicing anything? more or less a plug, reprogram, and play? I got a 04 silverado 1500 z71 and I would like to do this, but I want it one hundred percent reversable if need be.

Thanks for posting! I was looking for how to make the buttons on this wheel to work with the LS model. Btw you need to replace your oil sending unit

Steering wheel controls are easy to install, change the clock spring to one that has steering wheel control functionality. It’s all plug and play. Here is the part # for the clock spring 26101829

Is this needed for an after market stereo or will the install kit with steering wheel contols work?

⁠⁠@@joshualaird5303aftermarket stereo would already probably require extra wiring for steering wheel controls, so yes. I’m guessing not only the extra wiring just to make it work, + the clock spring, etc

It won't work until you reflash the truck's BCM to enable said controls.

You have to get the clock spring for the steering wheel controls and get the BCM reflashed at a dealer to enable them.

So you just swapped wheels? Went from no controls to controls? Didn’t have to replace the clock spring?

No, I did replace the clock spring as well, but unfortunately the BCM has to be re-flashed at the dealer to enable them.

Watching this video I saw you take the nut off, set it aside and I was like oh man hes gonna hit himself in the face with the wheel. Sure enough lol.
