There aren't a whole lot of options for the XPS 8910 8920 and 8930 desktop computers. This is a pretty simple option that actually adds some extra cooling to the CPU. Heatsink part number: T57JF Fan part number: KTDJC

What kind of temperature drops did you notice after the change (under no load, under load) and is this quieter than the stock fan? I've been having like 70C CPU temp while doing nothing, I'm going to clean some dust out but there's not much dust to begin with. I might wanna buy this but spending $80 + learning to apply thermal paste and everything (never did it) is something I don't want to do unless it reduces heat significantly and hopefully sound. I really appreciate if you could reply with how things are going 7 months later :)

The main cause of the bad cooling with the standard fan is imho not the fan itself but the power rack blocks completely its air intake. The fan can not suck in enough air since the power rack metal housing is blocking any air intake (air exit for pull fan configuration). Leave the power rack out of the way open and you should see an normal cooling. The Inspirons SFF desktops have an large fan upper assembly which is directly against the outer air grid intake. Those should not experiment this issue even with the standard fan.

That Corsair cooler works really well with the 8700 but you will need adapters to not just fool the fan speed feedback. It's not hard but rather clumsy. That option you got is actually fitted in the slimline optiplexes. It's not a bad option as it will likely cool much, much better. There is just not enough room between the power supply and the stubby heatsink. A very thoughtful, but flawed design. In the 8700 this area is all open, and the stock cooler mostly works well. It still wasn't effective enough for our tastes. I replaced mine with an Intel i7 K heatsink with copper pipes, and fans. Purrs like a cat under stress. Having a Geforce 1060, we like to stress her a lot. lol.

Suggest installing this cooler to XPS 8930. Extra fan unit not a bad idea, IMHO. Also install 120mm top case fan; will need appropriate metal bracket for same, a Dell part. Add a 120mm lower front case fan; will need appropriate plastic bracket for same--a Dell part. Both brackets often sold with OEM 120mm fans on ebay and amazon. Suggest wiring lower front case fan to PSU WITH fan speed reducing cable insert from Noctua; the fan will always run but at reduced (near-silent) speed. Voltage regulator heat sink is the Short-fin version with a notch in the fins for the CPU cooler suggested above. Screw fittings for heat sink already present in MoBo. Doing ALL this should greatly reduce heat problems.

Good catch! It's Dell p/n 639V8 which is a VR heat sink that gets tucked right below the CPU fan. The heat sink is listed on the Dell "product specs" list for XPS 8930's with i7-8700K CPUs. (I confirmed this by finding an 8930 with an i7-8700K off eBay and then typing the service tag into the Dell website.) It seems that the heat sink is used for i7-7700K CPUs as well. I hope this info helps some other people - better late than never!

@@bovideos9751 Is it a necessary part for this upgrade? In other words, if I put in the upgraded heat sync and fan, will there be any adverse effects by leaving out p/n 639V8?
@bovideos97517 ай бұрын
@@gi_nattak I guess it depends on the loads that the PC sees - the heatsink would likely be more helpful for gaming & video editing but I haven't heard of any overheating issues if you don't use it 🤷 Regardless, I went ahead put the heatsink onto my 8920 just for good measure, even though I don't do much gaming and do zero video editing. Note: for my 8920 motherboard there were no standoffs for the heatsink and so I had to use Home Depot machine screws & nuts to fasten the heatsink to the motherboard.

I did a new build with the i7 10700 and put a IC pad on the cpu inatead of paste and put the Cooler Master air cooler that is sold on BestBuy which is like 39.99. It keeps the cpu around 25 to 30 at iddle and around 45 to 50 full load. The cooler master is the same shape as the Noctua NH U12A but with one fan. I tried them both and got almoat the same temps give or take 1 to 3 degrees. And the cooler master is way cheaper, the noctua is around 109 vs 39 for the Cooler Master hyper 212. I was very impresed.

@The42willys5 жыл бұрын
Sorry just saw this message. The case is so tight there isn't much more you can do. There may be upper fans you can buy but you'd be limited to the same size as the original so you'd have to try to find one with the same dimensions that perhaps spins at a faster speed or has a steeper pitch on the blades or both... Even then I think any gains in cooling would be minimal. I'm still using the same computer you saw in the video and have produced dozens of videos since then in 4K and haven't seen the processor go above 200 degrees except for very short intervals in warmer summer time weather when producing long videos. Eventually i will upgrade to a larger case and install a liquid cooler so I can go to a K processor and overclock.

Hi mate, This is what I have done to cool my pc down. I have the black i7 7700k with the 1080 variant. I also added a fan ontop of the one seen in this picture where the hard drive bay is. I also added one on the back panel and removed some of the case fins. overall I am happier with the temps I get but when gaming I still hit anywhere from 70-90 degrees Celsius. FYI i used the two bottom hard drive bayes instead of the top one near the front of the case for my hard drives. But If anyone has any other ideas for cooling or if anyone knows of a tried and tested fan controller for this unit (software based) hit me up. www.dell.com/community/XPS-Desktops/XPS-8920-added-120mm-front-fan-with-pictures/td-p/6117839
