Damn! Mate where are you getting your idlers from? Should last years. I ordered a generic idler last year and hated it because it felt cheap and I didn't think it would last. But 2 weeks ago I ordered another one from eBay. It looks and feels like the real McCoy. $22 including delivery. Give it one last shot and then call in an exorcist 👍

Damn I may have spoke too soon, I don't think my dryer is heating anymore. It makes three short beeps before it spins up and the beeping repeats every minute. Have you come across this issue before mate?

@@chrishill9153 Hey thanks Chris! Sorry I probably do have a video of me doing that but can't remember where. But hey you don't even need a video, it's the easiest part on a dryer to replace. Once you have the back cover off all you need to do is remove the 2 screws on either side of the heater (which you will see immediately after removing the cover). Pull the heater out, unplug it and plug in a new one. Simple. You don't even need to remove the entire back of the dryer, just the back cover. It's pretty much plug and play 😎👍

I'll second that. It's the worst part of the dryer. That's one of the coolest ides I've heard! I want to know more 😯 Another guy just commented about using a scooter wheel as a Fisher and Paykel dryer drum guild which is also genius.

Just took my dryer apart and the idler pulley had a huge chunk missing - the part where the belt ran had just caved in. It seems to run on bushings and not use bearings either. Agreed its badly designed.

Mate I know what you mean. Part finding is the worst. Too be honest I think I've only ever bought a few parts. Even with tv's I always wait until I find another to pull parts from. That's why I have so much stuff around my house lol. I'll be releasing a video shortly where I scrap about 100 new massive tv's after holding them for years. All had cracked screens. I was holding those in case I found sets that had bad panels I could just swap the screen with. But you just can't keep on doing that because soon you're out of room.

@@DIYDumpRat yes that is so true i use to hang on to a few and just aint in a situation to store to much and been just cleaning up stuff and not storing much lol, its such a awesome feeling when you do get something to go to plan and save something though, the tv i found recently would only just be out of warranty, but ill track down the led lights when I get time to pull it apart to get part no off the led back light strip's as tvs model number just aint helping find parts on line, they just don't want us to fix things these days, wow that sounds like a good video to watch will be interesting ill definitely have a watch

G'day Throck30, thanks mate. Too be honest I wouldn't have a clue. If there is a thermal fuse it will be part of the computer. Basically if you're trying to power this unit on and you have absolutely no signs of life then your computer is toast and you'll have to replace it sorry. I've never tried to fix the computers themselves because I've always had them in abundance so just replace them. It's very easy to do.

No worries Amanda thanks for taking the time to comment 🙂 Yep that happens with me all the time. It just means the the belt is either sitting on the wrong spot on the drum or that it's to high on the shaft of the motor (threaded rod part). If it is sitting at basically the same level as your previous belt (the dust mark on the drum) what I normally do is turn it one way (say clockwise) and make sure it's staying on. If it is great. Then slowly turn it the other way. If it looks like the belt is creeping up the shaft (threaded rod) wanting to pop off, then grab a hold of it and force it down a couple of threads on the shaft while turning it. It should settle in it's correct position soon enough.

Oh one more thing! the idler is designed to lift up and down the shaft its sitting on. Sometimes the shaft is grippy and it won't slide up and down. Make sure you clean it well so it slides easily. Otherwise the belt will just come off as it naturally lifts.

I've placed the belt in the same position as previous as I can see the marks on the drum , I'm going to try what you've suggested . By any chance if it still falls off could it mean my belt needs to be replaced in case its to stretched ? Is that such a thing haha 😅

Sometimes when you see me doing it in my vids I make it look super easy. But believe me I have problems all the time with the wretched things lol. In fact I've just made another video and it took me like 5+ minutes to get it to sit right. Keep going with it you'll get it. And if you don't hit me up again 👍

Ah thanks Nicola 🙂 Damn if you're getting a grinding noise don't use it at all because it's probably the main bowl bearing. If you use it too much it might grind through the back of the machine and you'll not be able to fix it. Check out this video. I think it has the exact thing I talking about in the first machine I fix. A lot of people keep using their machines not realizing that they're making a massive unfixable hole in their machine. G'day James. Mate the amateur definitely shouldn't move in and out at all. I've never seen that ever. Bearings do go in the motors all the time but normally just result in noisy motors. That would be very interesting to see actually. As far as your seized back bearing is concerned try freeing it up with a little wd40. I do that and bring them back all the time. I'm fact I recently released a video where I restore a Simpson dryer that was in a flood. I do it in that video. Might save you some hassle getting a new one 👍

G'day Damien thanks a bunch mate. If your main bowl bearing, idler (pulley) are ok and the bowl is still not turning then the problem is more than likely your motor. It's a rare thing to happen but I do see it quite a bit in relation to the amount of dryers I actually repair. If the shaft from the motor (rotor) has movement in it then the motor is definitely dead. Just make sure it's loose within the motor and not that the motor itself has come out of the motor mount. If the motor mount is at fault all you'll need to do is take it off and bend it back into shape. But if the rotor is loose you'll need another motor. And sorry mate I've never actually really bought parts other than motor start capacitors. I always just recycle parts out of other machines. But Ebay's always your friend. There are also various warehouse type websites online that should sell lots of dryer parts. If you want to replace a motor though. It's not overly difficult. Just take the bowl out to give you some room to work and unscrew the 6 screws holding that main plate that the motors shaft is poking through. You will also need to disconnect the wires leading to the heat sensor on that plate to remove it. You will not have to remove the entire plastic inner shroud that holds everything together. It's basically the same operation as replacing or repairing a fan in any of my other vids. @@DIYDumpRat yo. I watched your vids and started hunting down motors. I ended up finding a guy in Seaford Vic who not only quoted a good price but said he'd fit it for me while I waited. While he was in there he also noticed that the main power switch was about to burn out, so replaced that too. Job done and I'm happy. Thanks heaps for your videos. They're awesome. Makes me want to pull something else apart 🙂

Hi there, yes that's a tricky one. The bearing in the motor acting up and noisy idlers can be similar. I just made a video on the motor bearings going bad. I'll upload it soon. I've never replaced bearings in the motor so I'm not sure. I tried opening a motor up once but couldn't. I have lots of spare motors so I just replace the whole thing. Sorry I can't help you with that one.

Did you plug the heater back in as you put the back back on after repairing it? Lol I forget to do that all the time. Instead of removing the entire back again, just try taking the smaller cover off the back and just remove the 4 screws holding the element (heater) on. You can gain access to the plug that way. Saves a bit of messing around 👍

Thanks James, I just get them on eBay if I ever need them. I got an idler the other day and it was much better than the first one I got that I didn't like much. It actually looked like a genuine one. It cost $22 delivered.
