Hokkien Prawn Mee, also affectionately known as 福建蝦麵, is another favourite of every local in Singapore and Malaysia. In our recipe, we have used both thick and thin bee hoon (rice vermicelli) for a varied slurpyness to the noodly goodness of the noodles. We would think however, that the MAGIC of this dish is in the seafood (lots and lots of prawns!) and the pork bone broth. The broth is key in producing the irreplaceable flavour that makes us all love Hokkien Prawn Mee so much, and we can be proud to say that this is as good as those in hawker centres!
Remember as well to fry some some 猪油渣 aka fried pork lard (refer to our previous video on this). Also it’s worth noting that due to limitations in home kitchen stoves, it is difficult to achieve the flavour of “wok hei” in home kitchens.
And there you have it, an awesome dish of Hokkien Mee goodness! Cook and share this flavour bomb with your family and friends today! #SG50 #jiaksimi #themeatmensg
⬇️ Ingredients here ⬇️

1 kg prawn heads and shells
1 kg pork bone
3 cloves of garlic

1 tbsp fish sauce
Toppings:
1 kg prawn
2 medium squid
200 g pork belly (poached in 4 slices of ginger)
2 fish cake
100 g chives
Per portion of hokkien mee

I'm Korean who lived in Singapore for almost 5 years in my teenager. And It's been about 8 years I left SG. And somehow since 2 years ago this Hokkien Prawn Mee keep reminds me. Because I've never eaten better noodle dish beside Hokkien Prawn Mee in my whole life. I've eaten Japanese,Chinese,Korean Ramens but.. this one is.. the best.

Hi guys! Thanks for the video, we tried it out, but with one crucial difference, I panfry the prawns and squid for 30 seconds to brown, set aside before adding it back to the noodles right at the very end. This prevents overcooking them, especially squid which becomes rubbery when overcooked.

Hi, I lived in Singapore for quiet sometimes and they sell this Hokkien Prawn Mee everywhere. I used to eat this a lot and I miss it so much. Thanks for sharing this amazing recipe! Could you also let me know what's the name of the spicy sauce you added on the plate on the side at the end? I loved the taste of that a lot.

It's so good to eat this when I am far away from home :) I don't eat meat (but seafood) so I didn't put pork but it's still good. I wish if you can do more vegetarian dish :) Just one question if u don't mind: What's the difference if I fried the garlic first instead of fried it after the noodles? Thanks :)
@themeatmensg

we stir fried the egg before adding the noodles, so if you add the garlic before that then they will end up being inside the eggs.
