This is about his son that died from falling out of 53 story apartment window in NYC. The child was 4. This knowledge makes this song even more sadder that it already is

Eric Clapton is the only person to be inducted in the Rock n Roll hall of fame 3 times. With his band the Yardbirds, his band Cream, and as a solo artist. He is also an extraordinary guitar player. Top 100 guitar player of all time lost in Rolling Stone named him #2 only behind Jimi Hendrix! He did an album with BB King called Riding with the King...its fantastic!

I remember seeing Clapton and King on TV. They are sitting on bar stools in their tux's and Clapton is playing 20 notes a second running up and down the fret board while BB just smiles and watches. 1000 notes later Clapton let's BB take his turn. BB hits ONE FRIGGIN' NOTE that sustains and blows Clapton out of the water. I loved what Clapton did in Cream but not so much as a blues man. BB's one note had more feeling than the 1000 that Clapton played. Clapton laughed and bowed down to him. Saw them both at different times and they were great.

"He looks like a teacher." Yes, but get this...in the 60's, in swinging London there was graffiti everywhere saying "Clapton is God". That's how much he was revered as a guitarist. And then he got even bigger with Cream, one of the best rock bands ever. Then Derek & the Dominoes, then a successful solo career. In a way, Clapton never gets old.💙🌿💚

By now you know this song is for his 4 year old son Conor, who fell out of a window of the mother’s NYC apartment on the 53 floor. Clapton was hard core rocker in his early days. Played with a few bands and heavily into chemicals. This event happened just after he got clean. His music is often meant to touch your emotions. He is considered one of the premier guitarist of his generation. He is in his 70s now and diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy... serious lower back pain. He can’t play guitar much anymore. I know his condition well. I am much younger but I have it as well. Lots of pain. He lived hard and played hard. I am sorry for anyone who knows this kind of pain. Thank you! ❤️

For such a plain guy, he is the most celebrated rock star in history. The only 3 time inductee to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame with a career that pre-dates Jimi Hendrix (who wanted to be Clapton). Clapton received the nickname god. This song is about the death of his four year old son.

On February 24, 1993, my 17-year-old daughter and I watched the Grammy Awards together. When Eric took the stage to perform "Tears In Heaven," my daughter was like, oh no, this song is so sad; it makes me cry. About halfway through the performance, I glanced over at her and she wasn't even misty-eyed, much less in tears. She was watching and listening with rapt attention, but she had a peculiar look about her that I had never seen, could not decipher and am still hard-pressed to describe. On April 9, she would be a passenger in a car that hit a light pole; on May 7, her coffin would be carried by six teenage boys and "Tears ... " would be one of the songs played that day. I still wonder what was going through her mind that night in February '93, as we watched Eric Clapton. I wonder how many millions of funerals this song has been part of, and how many millions of notes, with laminated obituaries of people's dead children enclosed, Eric has received. Because, yeah, I did that, too. And I wonder if these things helped him, hurt him or did neither.

We understand. I've cried for over the Hundreth time to this song. And do so Every Time; tears streaming, reconunting the day this extradinary world-class guitarist and man lost his young child, and in such a horrendous way. Oh God! And it amazes me that you haven't heard of Eric Clapton! And Cream, Jack Bruce bass guitarist unparalled, at the time, and Ginger Baker; African Style Drummer/Laya with Derek and the Dominos, Blind Faith (meh) . . . compared in quality to the demi-god, Jimi Hendrix. Go check out "Strange Brew," and another hundred great tunes. Layla is fun and commercial, but intensity of Cream at the time of Classic late60's/early 70's Birth of R 'n R stands the test of time . . .

For fooks sake thank you. I'm stoned at this point in time and refused to use google cause I saw this at the movies. I was 18 and did not expect the movie to be what it was but I always loved Clapton, years later in County Jail a guy got off the phone finding out his brother died. We were cool and he asked me to go to church with him before lock down, I knew he was struggling so at the end when the pastor asked if anyone had any thing they wanted to share I stood up and just started singing this. I thought it might help him out... years later I ran into him on the streets and he told me how much that meant to him. I explained the song and we went out after that and just drank, I don't know where he is now but you and this video just brought all that back. Thank you sir for helping me to remember a time when I did something for someone just because I could without wanting anything in return. I know this is long as a country mile but I'm a writer and got lost in the memory. Thank you again bout to order the bluray of this now.

Clapton has one of the longest and storied careers in all of rock music.... he’s still active as far as I know... from the 60’s until now... he’s had quite a run.... and a pretty fascinating life...

Won a Grammy song of the year I believe. One of Greatest rock/blues guitarist ever and influenced rock n roll tremendously. His son fell out a high rise window, awhile back he had to stopped playing the song cause of bad memories.

The story behind the song is even sadder than the tune.. His wife and 4 year old son lived in an upper floor apartment in NYC.. The housekeeper opened the window to clean it but got distracted (dont remember if it was the phone or doorbell) and the kid ran out the window.. He wrote this song coming out of a deep depression.

There is one song just about everyone has heard. It's played on every radio station on the last day of school, obviously schools out. I have an aunt who was an elementary school teacher for about 40 years and she told that teachers liked it just as much as students did. They played this song loud on the last day.

This song was written about the death of his four year old son, who fell from a multiple floor building because of an opened window. Clapton is considered one of the world's greatest guitarists. If you haven't hear his "Layla", you must hear it.

This song should put you in your feelings. It's very heartfelt & heartbreaking. Eric's son, Conor, was 4yrs old & was playing hide & seek with his nanny. He ran into a room where the janitor had move a wall of glass & ran out the window& fell from the 53 floor. It was devastating. This song was written by Eric for his son. I can't even imagine the loss. If you go back to your vid at 3:45 I think you were thinking about someone & there is a small white orb that comes from your left shoulder & lands at your wrist. I thought maybe you had lost someone too. Much love & God Bless!!!

Still can't believe there are people out there who don't know who Eric Clapton is!!! Nor know what...who this song is for & about. You know from the lyrics & melidy it's about the pain amd torment if losing someone you loved beyond measure. Look at Eric Clampton's face at the end of the song and you may get a clue as to why many folks, me included, break into tears when we hear it.

Early in his career Eric had some heavy issues with drug addiction (from which he recovered), hence 'I don't belong here'. His son was so young, 'would you know my name'? Great songs are heartfelt. This is a great song. Interesting factoid: Phil Collins played his own song about his friend Eric's loss 'Since I Lost You' to get his approval before Genesis put it on their album 'We Can't Dance'. Eric approved and then sang 'Tears' for Phil and asked if it should be a single. Collins said it was beautiful but wouldn't make a single. 'Shows what I know' Phil quipped.
