We have used these two snowmobiles for 3 seasons now and have 37 000km (23 000 miles) combined. Here is what we think.

I’ve been binge watching your vids and am ready for next season. I picked up an 23 expedition SE 850 last year and love it. Ordered Rok suspension for this year. The only thing I don’t see on your 600 is a pull start, I added one to my 850. Interested in your vids coming this winter!

Don’t worry, my 600 had a pull start. Because it’s a 24” the handle hides out behind the oil bottle pretty good.

What sort of tune did you do to the ECM on the 900? and clutching? i will be setting one up for myself in the coming week.

We used Map Tuner x. However on 2023 and 2024 models there isn’t much to gain. I have a clutch kit I sell for the 900 utility sleds.

Thank you for the comparison. I've had excellent luck with skidoo. I'm thinking of upgrading to a expedition or skandic with a 24 " track,I use it mainly for ice fishing . Would you recommend the 900 over the 600 for towing my equipment.?
@AndrewMilleyPerformance11 ай бұрын
I really prefer the 600 for most everything…. However if you are always towing at a slower pace and not taking advantage of the extra power, the 900 is a cheaper, quieter alternative

Both are truly excellent snowmobiles. I prefer the 600 because of the added power and slightly easier to handle. But the 900 is quieter and at lower speeds will tow with less rpm. So it really depends on how you like to tow. If you’re going to be lower speed and prefer quiet to performance, get a 900. If you’re a more aggressive guy and like to have more zip, especially in wet heavy snow, the 600 is a better choice.

Hey Andrew. Im looking at a new expedition and not sure which way to go. 600r / 900 ace / 900 turbo. Will be mostly trail but some off trail, hauling wood etc. Any input be appreciated. Thanks
@AndrewMilleyPerformance5 ай бұрын
I can only comment with knowledge of our local snow conditions and terrain. From my experience a 20” turbo is a really nice touring sled with some off trail capability. It likes to dip and dive and can be very frustrating in the woods. A 20” 900ace is a bit better, considerably cheaper and unbelievably reliable with the exception of fuel filters. A 2 stroke 20” is a really nice all around snowmobile, noticeably better off trail than the 4 strokes. “It’s only 30lbs” people say, but I think it drives like 50+ difference. The 2 stroke is almost zero maintenance until it’s engine rebuild time. If you’re stepping up to a 24” they really are all great sleds. I’d personally still get a 600r, but there is no wrong choice, just little compromises

Hi, what is your preference for your rigid industries light ? Do you prefer amber ou white light ? Thanks !
@AndrewMilleyPerformance6 ай бұрын
When it’s clear, white is nice. However there is blowing snow or snow dust more often than clear conditions so I just leave the amber filter on it.

Would you go Rock Shocks on front vs. Pro 36, or just go Rock all the way around? And how uncomfortable is the SWT to ride if you're used to the 20" sled already?
@AndrewMilleyPerformance4 ай бұрын
Rox shocks are a quality product. I have a lot of stuff around because I’ve been racing for years so sometimes I choose to just run parts I already have. With that said, if I had to buy shocks for a new SWT tomorrow, I’d spend my money on Rok shocks for the front 3 and look for a 2” rear similar to what I have…. BUT a 1.5” Rok rear is an excellent choice for 95% of people. It can be valved to offer the same ride as my 2”, but the 2” has better fade resistance on a long day.

20” vs 24”. Some guys don’t find it bad at all…. Some guys don’t last 2 hrs. It’s hard to say.

The 600r is 2 stroke and that 900 is a 4 stroke. Most people will tell you that 2 strokes aren’t reliable, but I’d take a new one across the country. I just prefer how they operate

The 600 always starts. When it’s -35°C or colder I pull it over a few times before using the electric start, but it starts. Every February since 2018 I’ve been on a trip where 900s won’t start unless you plug them in.

The 600 had a motor at 14,700? Those were your words at about 3 minutes, 14 seconds into your video. If it was a blown motor that was covered by warranty, great! But saying "It Had a Motor" is a little confusing. Maybe elaborate why the motor blew (What Failed), how the warranty process went, what the warranties cover for Ski Doo and all of the parameters.

We had a day that went much longer than expected. I got frustrated. When we were about 60km from home we hit a big lake system and I held it wide open for 20km. It was off the handle bar for a couple km between lakes then wide open again for almost 10, this process repeated until I almost got home….. so approximately 40+ km out of 50 wide open then it quit. A piston melted. There were no short blocks available from BRP. My dealer was very apologetic about that. I’m a mechanic, I realize that somewhere someone is assembling an engine. I asked my dealer to order the parts and build me an engine asap. The engine quit late on a Tuesday night, the dealer picked it up in my driveway Thursday morning. The next Friday I picked it up with new crank, pistons and water pump. Cost me $50 deductible. I am 100% ok with that. 12 years ago I was replacing engines twice a season. This doesn’t even register as an inconvenience compared to back then

It’s part of snowmobiling. In the past we were getting less than a season out of 2 strokes. These new engines run strong and last multiple seasons. The fact that it needed some work at 14000+ is only to be expected.
