This recording was from a live concert video released I want to say around 1995ish (just going off memory). This was the first song of the night, you were right about that. Over time this became the song they are most known for. The main riff is one many guitarists go out of their way to learn. More recently, they tended to end their shows with this or play it as part of the encore, as it's become more popular over time. The band recently did their farewell tour and are no longer performing live or making new music. Also, if you get a chance, check out Pantera, they will blow your mind.

I was in High School when Slayer and Metallica came out, majority of the kids I played their records for did not like this music as it was "too fast". They were listening to Flock of Seagulls and Duran Duran type of new wave crap or old school Led Zeppelin, Floyd, Sabbath, etc or early rap like Public Enemy, NWA, Too Short, etc which my brothers listened to.

I had friends who said it was "too fast" (I was one such person at 13); but they always found themselves coming back to it. It's an acquired taste to be sure and, definitely not for most people.

Usually it's the last song when they played. Slayer recently, as a band, has stopped playing. Their bassist has retired after 35 years or so. They started the same time as Metallica around 83. They go into the song Black Magic here.

Yes, Postmortem with Raining Blood as it is in the album,, these two songs go together. Haven't seen any one react to them as they are in the album they just play Raining Blood

A lot of people recommend Angel of Death which is indeed one of their greatest songs but for new people I think "South of Heaven" is a better choice. More accessible.... then Angel of Death, Dead skin Mask, and all the greats.

Black Sabbath lead to things like Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne (from Black Sabbath), then Def Leppard, Ratt, W.A.S.P., Iron Maiden, etc... then Metallica changed everything and Slayer was one of the early thrash bands and they developed their own sound. Other big ones out of this were Anthrax, Megadeth, Overkill, Testament, Exodus, Death Angel, etc. After this Grunge Rock came out and stepped away from this approach and bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, etc came out. Pantera, and other continued the thrash and taking it to new areas. Then Nu Metal came out and Slipknot, Disturbed, and many other bands arrived during that wave. There are HUGE amounts of Sub-Genres in metal. HUGE and they can sound VERY different from each other. I'm a fan of Progressive Metal probably the most but it is easier to do Prog after you've got a foundation which you are well on your way.

Slayer is one of the bands that helped to usher in the death metal genre. I first heard of Slayer when I bought this album back in like 1987. The album (on cassette) was perfect because I could listen to it on my lunch break in my car at work.. it was almost exactly 30 minutes long. The whole album was brutal for the time. On the cassette, the song 'Raining Blood' is actually the last song.. the song prior, 'Postmortem' leads into it.. the very last note of Postmortem is held for an extended time and is the first note of Raining Blood. If you get a chance.. there is a video on youtube that features both together like they were on the cassette.. Direct link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b7GZfcmfqpeYdqs.html Also a sidenote.. Ice-T and his metal band 'Body Count' covered both Raining Blood and a portion of Postmortem as well... Direct link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/grZ4fa9zlsDJcZc.html Enjoy ;)

As far as I concerned all the groups you listened to have their roots in Rock n Roll, which was started by people like Chubby Checker, Little Richard, Chuck Berry. Without African American influence, there would not bands like the Beatles, Stones. AC/DC. Metallica Slayer, Motorhead and all the others! African Americans paved the way for music! And I am grateful for that! Thank you.

Ight, like here's the deal. Pantera - domination line in Moscow '91, Jinger - piscer and Holy Wars - Megadeth are a must, not a trve react channel without those. lol

Ah getting into the power 4! Metallica, Pantera, slayer, megadeth. One thing to remember, metallica had better production behind them compared to the rest but all these bands are huge influences from the 80s

after watching several of your videos, i see you want a journey of genres. that's an excellent thing for anyone who has a passion for music. don't restrict yourself to one when the world has everything to offer. some of my favorite artists have vocalist who have an extreme range. please listen to Queensryche: Silent Lucidity ..their name is pronounced Queens rike (like bike). also Skid Row: Wasted Time. Geoff Tate of Queensryche was classicaly trained and Sabastian Bach of Skid Row was the 80's heart throb for almost EVERY female walking the planet. i'll enjoy watching you taking your journey through time and music...i hope you'll enjoy it as well

Need to see the original by Dio 1st.. then that version. It would definitely fit his explanation of the progression from the older to the newer musical styles.
